Year of Wooden Sheep to bring calmness, opportunities — feng shui expert

    - January 5, 2015 by Mr HomeBuilder

IN 2014, under the year of the Wooden Horse, an animal known for its aggressiveness, the country went through several issues such as government corruption, severe weather and the increase in criminality particularly killings and robbery.

The country was also alarmed and threatened by the killer Ebola virus, which has no known cure.

But this 2015 or the year of the Wooden Sheep, a feng shui expert predicted a reverse.

Master Hans Cua, the youngest Feng Shui master in Asia, said the year of the Wooden Sheep has the sense of balance as all the five elements including Wood, Water, Metal, Fire and Earth will be found in this years Feng Shui chart, which serves as their guide in making predictions.

The balanced astronomical signs (Wood, Water, Metal, Fire and Earth) will bring in cooperation which signifies a year of prosperity and a year of good luck and opportunities to everyone, he said.

He said the traits of the sheep -- harmless, calm, innocent, gentle and spiritual -- will influence 2015.

    Politics

Cua said there will be good camaraderie among high government officials this year, which bodes well for the economy.

He also said that disagreement between government officials will be toned down as it will be influenced by the Yin Metal which is supporting the earth according to the Feng Shui Chart.

"The sheep is characterized as a docile, calm animal. This brings peace and cooperation among the nations," Cua said.

Why Kris wants 'Feng Shui' to earn at least P200M

    - January 5, 2015 by Mr HomeBuilder

MANILA -- Actress-host Kris Aquino wants her latest movie "Feng Shui" to earn at least P200 million at the box office not just because she is one of the producers of the horror film.

In her official Instagram account on Sunday night, Aquino said she wants "Feng Shui" to be the biggest box office hit of co-star Coco Martin.

As of 5 p.m. Sunday, "Feng Shui" has already garnered a total of P200.8 million in ticket sales, Aquino reported.

Before "Feng Shui," Martin's highest-earning movie was last year's "Maybe This Time" with Sarah Geronimo, which made at least P130 million at the tills.

Aquino co-produced the sequel to "Feng Shui" with director Chito S. Roo, among others.

"I told Coco, prayer ko talaga that 'Feng Shui' will be his first P200 million movie because the Primetime King should also be certified movie royalty," she wrote in the caption.

"And Direk Chito and I silently held our breath to see if 'Feng Shui' could surpass the first installment, as well as our 'Sukob.' Thank you for entrusting us with your hard earned Christmas money. Thank you for making us so grateful for the fruits of our labor. Thank you to all of you who gave us two hours of your time to be part of the 'Feng Shui' experience," Aquino added.

"Feng Shui" now holds the record for the highest opening day gross for any Filipino horror film when it earned P31.4 million when it opened last December 25.

Feng Shui master Hanz Cua claimed in a video uploaded recently on YouTube that 2015 will be a of year of luck and opportunity for many. This should be good news to celebrity entrepreneurs who are planning to or have just ventured into business in the past few months. Here are someof them:

    Jennylyn Mercado

Jennylyn has decided to invest in real estate, launching a three-story building in Quezon City this month.

The establishment will have spa and a coffee shop. It will also house a dance studio that offers zumba, hip-hop, burlesque and jazz, among others.

In a previous interview with StarTalk, she said, Naisip namin na i-open siya Jan. 15 kasi parang alanganin kung i-o-open namin siya bythe end of (2014).

    Glaiza de Castro

Glaiza welcomed 2015 by opening a center in Valenzuela City that offers singing and acting workshops. It will also offer short courses in piano, violin and guitar.

Note that Glaiza already established a similar venture in Quezon City in 2013.

In a previous interview with GMA News she shared how she would always remind students, Kung ang number one antay kami aim nila ay maging sikat, hindi yun dapat ang goal nila kasi kailangan madevelop talaga nila yung talent na mayroon sila.

She enjoys the business because its related to what Im doing now.

Laramie company turns local snow fences into international lumber

    - January 5, 2015 by Mr HomeBuilder

This holiday season, Wyoming drivers braved wintry weather and sometimes treacherous roads to see family or take a vacation. On the worst stretches of highway, the ubiquitous snow fence plays a key role in minimizing drifting and ensuring the road remains open.

Snow fences have limited lifespans, but just because the wood has served its purpose standing sentinel over Wyoming travelers doesnt mean its ready for the burn pile. John Pope founded Laramie-based Centennial Woods 15 years ago after realizing he could put that wood to further use.

Every year, his company contracts with the Wyoming Department of Transportation to construct, maintain and demolish snow fences across the state.

Popes hunch was right, and companies all over the world are enamored with the look of Wyoming-aged wood. Pope was out of the country on business, but the Star-Tribune wrangled CEO Ed Spal for a look at Centennial Woods and where the company is heading.

CST: How did the company get its start?

Spal: The company was founded by John Pope and his extended family in 1999.

He saw a black plume of smoke, so he went to see what was burning in the field. It was old wood. There was no purpose for it once it was replaced he saw this plume and thought, why are we getting rid of perfectly good wood?

CST: What is the process of turning a tree into snow fence and a snow fence into lumber?

Spal: The contract comes up every year, we go through a bid process and we provide better value than others who have attempted to bid on the work.

Weve done our darnedest to be sure we win the bid.

Shipping container home readying for Detroit debut

    - January 5, 2015 by Mr HomeBuilder

    By JEFF KAROUB Associated Press

DETROIT (AP) - An unusual home taking shape inside General Motors' sprawling Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly plant is intended to be part of a movement to rebuild the city's economy and deteriorating, disappearing housing stock.

Skilled-trades workers, taking breaks from their tasks at the factory that produces the electric Chevrolet Volt and other vehicles, dart in and out to do door, window and wall installation and framing, as well as electrical and plumbing work. Meanwhile, a nonprofit urban farming group is preparing property a few miles away that will welcome the project, what's believed to be the city's first occupied shipping container homestead.

Come spring, the house-in-progress will be delivered to Detroit's North End neighborhood and secured on a foundation where a blighted home once stood. After finishing touches and final inspections, the 40-foot-long former container will feature 320 square feet of living space with two bedrooms, a bathroom and a kitchen, and will serve as home base for a university-student caretakers of a neighborhood farm and agricultural research activities.

One shipping container home won't turn around Detroit's housing woes. The city emerging from bankruptcy has roughly 40,000 vacant homes waiting to be demolished. But it's a start and, organizers hope, a model to lure and keep residents as Detroit removes blight and recovers from bankruptcy.

Shipping containers converted into living or working spaces are common in some other cities. For instance, in Salt Lake City's rundown warehouse district, a nonprofit group last year converted them into "micro-retail" spaces. A Seattle-based company designs and builds houses out of reclaimed containers.

Containers have been modified for both basic and luxury living elsewhere. But Tyson Gersh of the Michigan Urban Farming Initiative is unaware of another project involving a major manufacturer and nonprofit designed to serve many socio-economic needs through what he calls "social innovation."

Organizers hope the container project can lure millennials who don't want their grandfather's bungalow yet also provide predominantly poor, longtime residents with a low-cost housing alternative.

"Finding a place where both those communities can find common ground is beautiful," said Gersh, president and co-founder of the group that operates a farm and owns property in the North End, where blight and vacancy are common, but so are signs of residential and commercial renewal. "It's scalable, works for everyone and it's also not going to ruin the environment. It's easier to maintain and can repurpose existing materials."

Gersh said reusing the containers and other components has environmental benefits but points out that people working solely toward that end "are doing it from a position of privilege," and that's "not what Detroit is."
