SEVASTOPOL, Ukraine, Dec. 29 (UPI) -- A building in the disputed Crimean Peninsula city of Sevastopol was finally brought down a day after failed demolition attempts left it leaning at a 20-degree angle.
The first demolition attempt Friday left the 16-story Sevastopol building, which the head of the demolition attempt said was made from reinforced concrete and was "built like a bunker," still standing, but with a 20-degree lean. The failed attempt was recorded by members of the public and posted to YouTube.
A second detonation attempt Friday also failed, leading authorities to evacuate the area prior to Saturday's successful demolition.
Authorities said the building was demolished because it was constructed illegally.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- The stop work order for all construction and land clearing at Mount Manresa was lifted earlier this week upon completion of asbestos abatement at the property.
Demolition of the former Jesuit retreat remains on hold, however, until the developers obtain valid demolition permits, according to a Department of Buildings spokesman.
The demo permits that the site's developer, Savo Brothers, obtained in August have since expired and their renewal won't be automatic, DOB spokesman Alexander Schnell said.
"The application [for renewal of the demolition permits] remains on hold until the applicant can provide the Department with the necessary documentation to confirm that they have informed all necessary adjacent property owners of their intent to demolish the property," he said.
Members of the Committee to Save Mount Manresa had previously expressed concern that fewer than half of the 200 adjoining property owners had been informed of the pending demolition before work began.
"At least 100 property owners were not notified," Committee president Barbara Sanchez wrote in a Dec. 22 email to local pols, in which she pressed them to pressure the DOB to require that all nearby homeowners be notified.
"I know," she continued, "as I live in one of the adjoining properties that was not notified."
ASBESTOS ISSUES
The city has fined Savo Brothers of Prince's Bay and other parties involved with the project $67,400 for asbestos-related problemsat the site in recent months.

MARIE Walker has been left frustrated and frightened after an installation of insulation went wrong this week. Taking advantage of the Federal Government's energy- efficient homes package, Ms Walker agreed to have ceiling insulation installed after a contractor knocked on her door earlier in the week. However, the Ulverstone resident claims she was left with a job half finished by Sydney company Green Engineering. "When they first came to see me they wouldn't give me a quote and I was dubious about that, however, agreed to have the insulation installed for the amount covered by the rebate," she said. "When the workmen arrived on the agreed day, they climbed into the manhole and starting talking in their own language, I couldn't understand a thing they were saying. "They were in the roof for 15 minutes before they told me they were finished and I had to sign the paperwork." Ms Walker was not satisfied with the job done and refused to sign the paperwork, but the workers refused to leave her property without her signature. "I called the police in the end, I didn't know what else to do," she said. "And now I am left worried about the job that they have done and worried about it being a fire hazard." Constable Steve Oliver, from Ulverstone Police, attended Ms Walker's house and alleged the job was a very rough attempt. "We attended Ms Walker's house for a trespass matter," he said. "On further investigation in relation to the Sydney business we found at least five Korean nationals on student visas. "There were two Chinese and one Indian gentleman at the premises." Const Oliver investigated the work in the ceiling while he was at the premises. "In the ceiling it was like a deck of cards had been thrown in there," he said. Ms Walker's neighbour, Ronda Rossetto, was also a customer who had her installation installed by the same company last week. "I had a friend get up in the ceiling and have a look for me and he said only half the lounge room is done and it looks like it was thrown up in there, not placed as it should be," she said. Mrs Rossetto said she had rung the company and had a representative come around. "They said the workers would be back that afternoon but I haven't seen them yet," she said. Green Engineering manager Danny Ye said he had six staff working in Tasmania and all had been trained to install insulation. "I will be calling all customers and checking if they are satisfied with the work," he said.
