Phase V (2010 - Current) is divided into two sub-phases: Phase 5A will upgrade all mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, security, fire monitoring and suppression systems in the Martin House. The main house will be integrated into the geo-thermal exchange heating and cooling system already in place on the campus and in use for the reconstructed pergola, conservatory and carriage house.

An education facility - the Junior League / Buffalo News Learning Center - will be incorporated into the lower-level "playroom" of the Martin House. A motorized lift will connect the first floor of the building with the lower level to provide accessible entry to the Learning Center. In addition, a pantry kitchen has been designed for non-public space on the lower level to service programs in the building.

The second phase of interior restoration, 5B, will focus on the extensive interior wood trim, plaster, and paint finishes, and exterior site-work. This highly specialized and detail-oriented work will complete restoration of the main Martin House to its appearance of 1907.

Upon completion of 5B, the extensive collection of original furnishings entrusted to the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, Bureau of Historic Sites, will be reinstalled in the Martin House according to our Historic Furnishings report. Many pieces of original art glass will be reinstalled in the house at this juncture as well.

With mobile technology, its easy to work in any room of a house. And yet, according to designers and home builders, the home office is becoming one of a homes must-have features.

Dedicated office space might not always be a full room. In fact, it might be a nook with desk space on the landing of a staircase or a corner of a bedroom or family room. But as people do more work away from the office and kids do more work outside of the library, the home office is growing in importance.

That office or desk space is becoming as essential as the family room, said Mollie Carmichael, who leads the consumer research team at John Burns Real Estate Consulting, based in Irvine, Calif. And thats true no matter how large of a home it is, from a small apartment to a large single-family home, she added.

In fact, 77% of people surveyed by John Burns said that any additional rooms not dedicated as bedrooms would be used as an office in their next homethe most popular response. (Fifty-six percent said theyd use the extra space as a guest room, 25% said multipurpose room.)

Home appraisers are returning to dubious practices seen before the financial crisis, as they inflate the values of some properties they assess.

Theres also some evidence that home offices can make a home more attractive to buyers. According to Remodeling Magazines 2014 Cost versus Value report, you can recover an average 48.9% of the cost of a home office remodel at resale, up from 43.6% in 2013 and 42.9% in 2012. A midrange office remodel, as defined by the report, is a $28,000 investment that involves installing custom cabinets that include 20 feet of laminate desktop, a computer workstation and wall cabinet storage, along with rewiring of the room for computer, fax machine, cable and telephone lines.

There are a couple of reasons that people are demanding a dedicated office space.

For one, it gives them a place to collect all the paperwork and miscellaneous stuff they need to run the household, as well as for the work they may be doing from home for their job, said Elissa Morgante, co-principal of Morgante-Wilson Architects, based in Evanston, Ill., in an email. And secondly, it is helpful to have a space that is dedicated to work and not filled with other distractionsplus they have all the things they need within arms reach. I think it helps focus and provides a sense of intention.

If youre one of the growing number of people who regularly work from home, youre more apt to want an office space away from the center of the house, Morgante said. The number of people who work from home on a regular basis (and are not self-employed) grew by 89.8% from 2005 to 2013, to 3.5 million employees, according to data from Global Workplace Analytics, a consulting and research firm that studies work-at-home trends. The most recent statistics show that 2.5% of the workforce works from home at least half of the time, said Kate Lister, president of the organization.

Those who dont regularly work from home may want the office space on the first floor, close to the center of the home, Morgante said. Workspace near the kitchen or great room can make it easier for parents to keep their eyes on kidswhether its the adults or the children who are working at the desk space. With an open office area, kids are also prevented from sequestering themselves in their rooms with laptops, she said.

Entering a new year, the Buffet at Excalibur has a new look.

The redesigned buffet, which closed for remodeling earlier this year, reopened Dec. 23. The dining room seats 610.

Also, a luxury boutique expands at the Bellagio, a cosmetics retailer enters the fold of the Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood, and a restaurant in Henderson temporarily shutters for remodeling.

The Buffet at Excalibur reopened after a remodeling effort that began in the fall.

Menu items will rotate seasonally to highlight fresh produce, according to a news release. The dining room will seat 610.

According to the release, menu highlights include paninis and made-to-order omelets for breakfast; vanilla bean adobo chicken tacos along with tasso ham and tortellini pasta for brunch; and salmon with hibiscus glaze, Cajun crab mac and cheese, lobster polenta and hand-dipped ice cream bars for dinner.

The buffet is open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week, a spokesperson said. Excalibur is at 3850 Las Vegas Blvd. South.

UPDATE: Courtesy of YouTube user woooshness we have a video walkthrough of the reimagined Ascension for Halo 2 Anniversary.

In the video, below, taken from the Rooster Teeth Expo over the weekend, we're shown Ascension, which has been made HD and 60 frames per second as part of Xbox One game Halo: The Master Chief Collection.

A number of changes have been made, including tweaks to the level design, a new weapon spawn and, most importantly of all, an energy shield for the middle of the map. There are three control panels placed around the map, which can be activated to turn on the energy shield, providing cover in the middle for their teammates.

ORIGINAL STORY: One of the greatest Halo multiplayer maps ever is getting remastered for Xbox One shooter Halo: The Master Chief Collection.

Coagulation is a Halo 2 multiplayer map that was itself a remake of the Halo: Combat Evolved multiplayer map Blood Gulch. It's a huge valley with identical bases at both ends.

Coagulation was announced over the weekend at the Rooster Teeth Expo as one of the six Halo 2: Anniversary maps 343 Industries and its co-production team at Certain Affinity are reimagining for Halo: The Master Chief Collection.

The six new Halo 2: Anniversary maps run at 60 frames per second and, hopefully, at 1080p resolution. There's no gameplay or screenshots of the new and improved Coagulation yet, but we do have some concept art, below.

At E3 last month Microsoft announced Halo 2 map Ascension as the first of the six reimagined maps. So, now we know two of them, four are left to be revealed.

SAN ANTONIO (AP) - The San Antonio Spurs needed a lift after a succession of injuries to key players and a series of deflating losses.

Patty Mills return gave the Spurs a boost, but withstanding an emotional and physical matchup with the Houston Rockets provided what they truly needed - a win.

Danny Green had 24 points and San Antonio held off a late rally to beat Houston 110-106 on Sunday, snapping a six-game skid against its intrastate rivals.

Mills had eight points, all in the final quarter, but his energy was the spark that helped the Spurs snap a two-game skid. The 6-foot guard from Australia even dived on his surgically repaired right shoulder for a loose ball in the first half and played all but 12 seconds in the fourth quarter.

His energy, just his activity is was contagious, San Antonio forward Tim Duncan said. It was great for us; brought a huge spark to the team.

Duncan had 16 points and Manu Ginobili had 15 for the Spurs (19-13).

James Harden had 28 points and Dwight Howard added 24 points and 17 rebounds for Houston (21-8). The Rockets newest additions had differing levels of success: Corey Brewer scored 25 points and Josh Smith added five points.

Smith sat all but 30 seconds in the final seven minutes due to what Houston coach Kevin McHale deemed a lack of familiarity on a couple of missed defensive assignments.

It wasnt just Smith that seemed lost, though. Houston had 25 turnovers, including eight in the final quarter that resulted in 11 points.

We werent really sharp all night, McHale said. They beat us on back cuts. They beat us on cuts and we werent as sharp as we needed to be and the turnovers just killed us tonight, 25 of them, just too many turnovers.
