With draperies dancing in afternoon breezes and an innate sense of style and architecture, Palm Springs based interior designer Christopher Kennedy was inspired by the beauty surrounding him growing up on Californias central coast.

The designer recently opened a showroom in the up and coming southern corridor of Palm Canyon Drive. Although half of the 3,000 square foot space is dedicated to retail, Kennedy took a different approachone that would whisk clients and customers away into his lifestyle vision.

I did not come at it with a retailers point of view, the showroom was driven by my background as a designer, Kennedy said. This is about a lifestyle brand and I want customers to come in and be a part of our world.

That world, according to Kennedy, is filled with vibrant California-glamour and jet-set luxury.

    Stonewood Homes deny stonewalling couple

    - December 19, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

    JOSEPH JOHNSON

Brassed off: Andy and Kathy Coulson paid Stonewood Homes in April 2013 and were told they could move in November 2013. They are still waiting due to a dispute with the company.

Families building with Stonewood Homes say the process has been a "living nightmare" of ongoing delays, battles over workmanship and poor communication.

Gary Grooby and Jacqui Te Wani should be celebrating Christmas in their new home.

After losing their home in the earthquakes, they signed a contract in November last year to rebuild with Stonewood Homes.

They were told they could move in by October.

Have you rebuilt a home in Christchurch following the quakes? What was your experience? Email tess.mcclure@press.co.nz

However, the couple are still waiting and have no timeline on when the house will be finished. The latest estimate from project managers is March.

In the meantime, the single-income family with three children is paying $800 a week for rent, mortgage and insurance.

Te Wani said they could not afford any more delays.

Burglar breaks into home of security company owners VIDEO

    - December 19, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

A Las Vegas burglar caught on video just so happened to pick the home of a family that owns a security company.

Surveillance video from the house in the 2800 block of Jeffrey Pines Street, near the intersection of Cheyenne Avenue and Rancho Drive, shows the intruder knocking on the front door before showing up on another side of the home holding a revolver and later breaking a window with a mop handle.

The burglar wearing a UNLV beanie and a letterman jacket got away with three guns, an iPad and an iPhone, said 31-year-old Shari Brantley, whose family owns Brantley Security.

No one was home at the time, just after 3 p.m. Tuesday, and she was the last to leave. But, she said, she didnt do one thing her company always recommends: turn on the alarm.

I was just going to be gone for a short time, she said Thursday.

Earlier in the day, Brantley said, shed been at home with her 8-year-old daughter, who was sick and didnt go to school. She said shes glad they werent there when the burglar showed up with a gun.

Police confirmed Thursday confirmed an ongoing burglary investigation and said they are using the video and photos provided by the Brantleys to try to identify a suspect. No arrests have been made, Metro spokesman Officer Larry Hadfield said.

Canary Home Security System Has Finally Started Shipping

    - December 19, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Canary, the $250, all-in-one home security system that caught the attention of our hearts and minds back in 2013, has finally started shipping.

The device launched on Indiegogo back in July of 2013, with a goal of $100,000. By the time the campaign had ended, Canary had amassed nearly $2 million in pre-orders. After selling around 15,000 units, Canary turned off pre-orders and went head-down on manufacturing. But not before scooping up $10 million in funding from Khosla Ventures.

For the past few months, around 500 people have been using early Canary hardware to give feedback and test the device in a very closed beta. After tweaking and getting units built, the company is now shipping the super affordable home security system.

Canary works by simply plugging in and sitting on a shelf. Equipped with motion sensors, a camera, and a number of sensors for air-quality, smoke, etc. Canary keeps an eye on your house whether youre there or not. The software is able to sense the difference between a dog, your kid, and an intruder, and send notifications directly to your phone.

The app records a clip each time the motion sensor is activated, giving users the option to help Canary figure out the difference between you and a bad guy. Plus, it gives you a glimpse into the goings on of your home while youre gone, including your kid playing in the kitchen or your wife having lunch.

With the shipping plan in place, all US-based Indiegogo backers will get their Canary in January, along all US pre-orders that were placed before December 2014.

If you want to learn more about Canary, head over to the website here. Or check out the video below.

Home security camera captures Flint shooting death

    - December 19, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

FLINT (WJRT) - (12/18/14) - Do you recognize the man in the picture with this story? Police say he shot and killed a man early in the morning on Aug. 23.

So far, it's been almost four months and still no leads.

    It's a story you'll only see on ABC12.

It is a rarity that police catch something like this on video, but thanks to a rolling home security camera, they did, and want you to take a close look to see if you recognize the suspect.

You can't see in the video, but the man has a gun on him.

In the video, you can see him approaching the victim, 25-year-old Christian Davis, who is out of view of the security camera.

We can't show you what happens next because of the ongoing police investigation, but just moments later, the suspect fires multiple shots at Davis in the yard of a home on Dupont Street near Ballenger Park.

The suspect's face is unclear in the footage, but police want you to take a look at his build and distinct walk.

Davis was found dead in the park 4:30 that morning.

If you recognize the suspect, you are asked to call Flint Police.
