A RETIRED plumber and great-grandfather-of-six is celebrating his 100th birthday.

Arthur Wingham Haffenden, from Park Gate, has today received his letter from the Queen congratulating him on living for a century.

The grandfather-of-five was born in Kent on December 16, 1914, the son of a farmer and an accountant and the youngest of seven children. He served in the Home Guard from 1939-45 but the majority of his working life was spent as a plumber, until he retired in 1979 and moved to Hampshire in 1980.

Arthur has stayed active by going fishing, playing bowls and collecting stamps. He is also a member of the committee for the block of flats where he lives independently.

Arthur celebrated his landmark year with his wife of 74 years, Gentillia, and his daughters Shirley and Pamela.

Pamela, her son Nigel and grandchildren Jake and Teigan travelled from their home in Australia to join the rest of the family spanning four generations at a big celebration at the Botley Park Hotel.

Fox Pest Control technicians will continue to serve Fox's customers, but bills will come from Truly Nolen, the company reported.

Fox and Truly Nolen have teamed up "to provide our customers with the very best pest control services available in the El Paso area," Jace Anderson, who owned Fox, said in a statement.

Truly Nolen is known for its fleet of "mousecars" bright yellow cars containing black ears and tails.

Windows and Doors products certified by The Energy Star seal

The New Albany Architectural Review Board on Dec. 8 voted 6-0 to approve a certificate of appropriateness for an outdoor patio at Hudson 29, the new Cameron Mitchell restaurant at 260 Market St.

The restaurant will be in the same new building as the recently opened Mellow Mushroom pizzeria. The two-story, 26,000-square-foot retail center was built by the Daimler Group at the northwest corner of Market and Main streets.

Cameron Mitchell's first central Ohio Hudson 29 restaurant opened last March on Lane Avenue in Upper Arlington. It was dubbed as a "polished-casual" restaurant, which is a new Cameron Mitchell concept.

The New Albany Hudson 29's 1,000-square-foot patio would be on the southeast side of the new building at Market and Main.

Carter Bean of Bean Architecture said the patio would have black screens to shield patrons from weather.

ARB members approved the application with the condition that restaurant officials return to the ARB in two years to ensure the screens maintain their appearance.

Hudson 29's official opening date has not been announced.

In other business, the ARB approved two applications for a site layout for the Granger Group to build two three-story buildings and 14 one-story two-unit dwellings on 15 acres at 227 E. Main St., south of the Plain Township fire station at 9500 Johnstown Road.

The plan includes 64,000 square feet of independent living space, 100,000 square feet of independent- and assisted-living space and 56,000 square feet of duplexes for more independent living.
