Route 611 at the foot of College Hill should open next week, according to Easton's public works director.
The road has been closed intermittently since retaining wall on the hillside above gave way in May. The failure of the rain-soaked wall along Mattes Lane allowed rocks to tumble to the road below.
Repairs have been extremely difficult due to the steep terrain above. The project initially scheduled for a few weeks dragged on for months as contractors struggled to buttress the wall without allowing heavy equipment to tumble downhill.
The city closed the road for fear rocks and debris could fall on cars below during the project, according to city public works Director Dave Hopkins.
A retaining wall is now in place, although further reinforcement is planned for the base of the wall, according to a worker on the job site.
"Based on the progress of work to date, we believe that the roadway will be opened to traffic by next week," Hopkins said Tuesday in an email.
The closure has been inconvenient not just to travelers but to homes along the detour route.
"May we please have an update on this story?" commented one reader on Nov. 29 to a story on the construction posted Oct. 22 predicting the road would open in two to four weeks.

SEBRING From a gingerbread house to a ski slope to the North Pole with Santa Clause, its looking like Christmas time at the Highlands County Courthouse and Government Center.
This year marks the third anniversary of a holiday door decorating contest that has grown to include the Highlands County Property Appraisers Office, Highlands County Supervisor of Elections Office and the Highlands County Board of County Commissioners office.
A total of 24 doors, including some hallways, were decorated for the holiday.
The first-place trophy was awarded to the Clerk of Courts Civil Division for its manger scene.
Court clerk Lisa Osha created a 4-foot high silhouette of one of the wise men and other figures for the manger scene.
Asha said her husband assisted her and she gave credit to her fellow civil division workers, Toni Kopp and Miranda Freeman.
Osha said Freeman did the labor-intensive work of putting everything on the wall, and Kopp created the white lettering and stars.
Second place was awarded to the Clerk of Courts administration for its depiction of the North Pole, and third-place went to the Clerk of Courts accounts payable and receivable for its winter wonderland with a ski slope and ice skating rink with cutout photos of the departments staff in skating poses.
The Supervisor of Elections Office received an honorable mention for its gingerbread house decorating scheme that covered a door and part of the hallway. It was made with brown construction paper and adorned with plenty of candy canes.
Santa Clause, wrapped in Christmas lights, covered the door for judges Dale Durrance and Olin Shinholser. Photos of the judges faces were placed on the bodies of elves.

Borough officials are considering a new building to house both the Sea Bright Police Department and Sea Bright Fire and Rescue after additional damage was found last week at police headquarters.
Borough Administrator Joseph Verruni said during the Borough Councils Dec. 11 workshop meeting that problems were found during initial work to prepare for mold remediation at 1099 Ocean Ave.
As a result of the police moving out of their building to begin the mold remediation, Chief [John] Sorrentino removed the lockers and everything from the police building to a temporary structure, and it revealed certain problems with the police building. There were lateral cracks, Verruni said.
Mold that was discovered at police headquarters in March was the result of floodwaters from superstorm Sandy and leaks from the buildings windows and roof.
The police force is currently housed in a trailer set up in the municipal lot next to the current firehouse, Councilman Marc Leckstein said. Police vehicles are being parked nearby in front of the vacant headquarters.
Councilman James LoBiondo III said the recently discovered cracks create almost an inch of separation in the wall of the former locker room toward the back of headquarters.
It is a lot worse than we initially thought, he said, adding that an engineers report indicated that it was not cost-beneficial to fix the building.
Verruni said the Police Department will move into the temporary firehouse structure that is being installed on the driveway of the Sea Bright Fire and Rescue headquarters, which was also damaged during the 2012 superstorm.

STOCKTON (CBS13) Police are asking for help in identifying a couple of thieves who have been targeting packages left on the front porches of Stockton homes.
Clear footage of one of the thefts was caught by a homes surveillance system. In the video released by the Stockton Police Department, a woman is seen getting out of a pickup truck and walking up to the porch. She then picks up a box and jogs back to the truck.
According to police, a couple of other residents on Winding River Circle have reported package thefts as well.
In one incident, the suspects appear to have seen a US Mail carrier deliver a package to a home, because police say the suspects drove by the carrier then came back six minutes late to grab the box.
The video released by police clearly shows the woman suspected of grabbing the packages. Police describe her as a heavyset white or Hispanic woman who has long red hair and was wearing black high-top boots with white pants, a pink shirt, a black jacket and a red hat or bandana.
Little information on the suspected driver has been given. However, the truck used in the thefts looks to be a 90s-model Nissan with a front license plate slight bent outward at the bottom.
Anyone who recognizes the suspects or the truck is asked to call the Stockton Police Department at (209) 937-8377.

Epiphany Byzantine Catholic Church in Georgia burning after someone set it on fire.
A 24-year-old man suspected of setting fire to a Roswell, New Mexico, church was arrested this week and was naked when police picked him up.
Epiphany Byzantine Catholic Churchlocated on Old Alabama Road burned down around 2 a.m. on Sunday. The suspect, Juan Carlos Ramirez, was naked and arrested nearby for disorderly conduct. He had been charged with arson as a result of a police investigation and a subsequent confession, according to a WSBTVreport.
Police also said Ramirez was "running around naked"and saying he was Jesus or knows him.
Parts of the church building, along with the woods surrounding it, were burning when the firefighters arrived at the scene. The church's pastor, the Rev. Philip Scott, was asleep in a nearby building when the fire started. Its flames were spotted by a passerby who called 911. The pastor commented on the damage done.
"My reaction is one of shock of course and sorry because our church building is really a pride and joy to us," he said.
However, he shared plans for the church repair.
"We're going to start construction on the repairs tomorrow morning so we're getting right back into it. Hopefully have Christmas in there," the pastor continued.
The Orthodox Church leaders next door to Epiphany Byzantine will allow the congregation to use their building until Epiphany is repaired.
