Construction of new homes at Dubbo is on the rise and the sector is on track to spin tens-of-millions-of-dollars into the economy next year.
More than $34 million of single and dual dwellings have been approved since July and more plans for homes are expected to flow in on the back of strong land sales recently.
The industry's revival that's put a "smile on the face" of builders and sub-contractors would have benefits that spread throughout the community this Christmas and beyond, Maas Group Properties sales coordinator Bill Kelly said yesterday.
And he said the construction of new homes was not only generating work for Dubbo's tradies, it was also providing employment for the wider region.
New figures reported by Dubbo City Council this week revealed the approval of 101 new single dwellings in the first five months of the financial year, together totalling $28.62 million.
That was up more than $2 million for the same period last year, while dual-occupancy dwellings had powered ahead.
In the past five months 15 new dual-occupancy dwellings had received approval, five-times as many as the same period last year.

Blue Marlin Realty Group is proud to feature the newest townhome community, Destin Oaks, coming to Destin, Fla., in 2015. The premier townhome project is the brainchild of Blue Marlins Broker Associate and Destination Builders Inc., President John Cunningham.
Having both built and sold real estate in and around Destin, Cunningham has lived through the cyclical nature of the market.
We have seen it all. From watching the market slow to an all-time low, to now having a strong demand in real estate and new construction in our area. Its very encouraging to me not only as a Realtor, but also as a builder, Cunningham explained.
As a company, Destination Builders Inc. saw a serious need for a community like Destin Oaks in the area. There is a lack of new construction at this price point and Cunningham and his team are excited to be a part of developing such.
There is nothing new available in Destin, under $300,000 right now. We think the demand is there for buyers at this price point to be able to get into the city of Destin, he said.
Although Destination Builders had looked at purchasing the land in the past, Cunningham is no stranger to the 5-plus acre property located on Airport Road. Formerly home to the Destin Racquet Club, Cunninghams mother managed the Racquet Club for a little more than 10 years while he was growing up in the local area.
The project will have 60 premium townhomes available with three different, three bedroom plans with the options of an office, garage, or game room, ranging in size from 2,000 to 2,300 square feet. Each townhome includes an open main living level with large kitchen, spacious bedrooms, and access to the communitys amenities including clubhouse, pool and common areas. The community is also conveniently located near area shopping, golf and attractions. The townhomes base price will begin in the high $200ks.
Destination Builders recently broke ground and began the communitys initial infrastructure. After receiving appropriate permitting from the city, Destin Oaks is anticipated to have units available to move in, Spring of 2015. Those interested in learning more or setting up a viewing during construction can contact John Cunningham directly at 850-246-5646.
We are proud to have John as a part of the Blue Marlin Realty Group team. He is a great builder, a fantastic realtor and most importantly an incredible person and will be very successful because of that. says Blue Marlin Realty Group Co-Broker, Johnathan Hughes.
Destination Builders Inc. specializes in a number of services including residential and commercial new construction, customs homes, remodels, renovations, expansions, and build-outs. Whether it's a dream house or corporate real estate, Destination Builders Inc. has the skill, expertise and talent to exceed your expectations. By working with award-winning teams of architects, land developers, designers, and supporting staff, you can rest assured that your project is in good hands with Destination Builders.

(BPT) - Can the look and condition of your roof affect the resale value and curb appeal of your home? What about your window frames, entry door or shutters? The answer is absolutely.
This year building product companies are urging homeowners to focus on improving their home's exterior. Investing in key products now can make your home more marketable in the future.
Sixty-one percent of homeowners say that when house hunting or designing their home, the most attention-grabbing exterior feature was the style of the home, according to the 2011 DaVinci Roofscapes Homeowners Exterior Preferences Study conducted by Harris Interactive. This was followed by how the house looked on the property (43 percent).
And, when it comes to adding curb appeal to a home, color counts. Fifty-nine percent of homeowners place a lot of emphasis on the role that color plays when they think about replacing major exterior home features.
"To enhance curb appeal it's all about creating 'top down' color by working from the roof down through the different elements of the exterior such as siding, windows, trim and doors," says Kate Smith, president of Sensational Color. "For example, a colonial style home with a warm Autumn Blend polymer shake roof could be ideally matched with a home exterior in a neutral stone color.
"Then, add pops of color for curb appeal, such as chocolate brown vinyl window frames, like those available from Simonton Windows. Shutters and trim around the home could use the same deep brown color. A stand-out color like pine green or marine blue would then be added to the entry door to add personality to the exterior."
Smith, who has authored the free online FRESH Home Exterior Colors and FRESH Color Schemes for Your Home Exterior guides, spends a good deal of her time advising homeowners, remodelers and builders on selecting the perfect colors for the exterior of the home.
"It's important to remember that it all starts on the roof," says Smith. "When you're working top down with unlimited color options from a company like DaVinci Roofscapes, a homeowner has an open palette for designing the perfect home exterior."
Smith recommends that other key factors to enhance curb appeal can be found by selecting products for the home that are easily painted and maintained. "For me, it's all about adding color to easy-care products," says Smith. "That's one reason why I like Fypon decorative millwork pieces so much. These smooth polyurethane pieces come primed and ready to paint. We're talking about shutters, louvers, door and window trim, balustrade systems and even brackets and mouldings to increase the exterior appeal of a home.
"And, of course, nothing pops with color like the front door. I recommend homeowners consider stylish and paintable fiberglass entry doors from Therma-Tru. This company invented fiberglass doors and they offer many options for adding warmth, color and elegance to the home exterior."

If your work involves the installation of traffic signals, you'll be happy to know there is now a much more efficient way to get the job done. An inventor from Columbus, Ga., has actually streamlined the assembly process.
He developed E Z Mast to permits a worker to feed wiring for the installation of traffic signals unassisted. At the same time, it reduces potential injury to fingers and hands during assembly. It, therefore, increases worker productivity by decreasing assembly time. Furthermore, it avoids the chance of ripped or torn insulation and broken wiring during installation. Instead, it allows the wiring to flow through the opening with minimal resistance. Also, it is designed for universal use on an international basis. In addition, it is safe, easy to use and affordably priced.
The inventor's experience on the job inspired the idea. "While working on wiring installations for traffic lights, I noticed that too much time was wasted with the manual assembly process, which negatively affected productivity," he said.
The original design was submitted to the Atlanta office of InventHelp. It is currently available for licensing or sale to manufacturers or marketers. For more information, write Dept. 12-AAT-1683, InventHelp, 217 Ninth Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15222, or call (412) 288-1300 ext. 1368. The Hastings Womens Rest building in Civic Square has been closed to the public while a remodelling project is undertaken.
Hastings District Council has contracted Waipukurau Construction to undertake the building renovations that includes the installation of a new roof, insulation, electrical wiring, painting, and flooring. In addition to Councils building maintenance work, the Heretaunga Womens Centre Incorporated Society has raised funds to undertake some minor interior alterations to the reception area, office and kitchen and to install new lighting and heating. It also intends to update the buildings furniture, curtains and signage.
Hastings District Deputy Mayor Cynthia Bowers says "The Womens Rest is a Category 1 heritage building constructed in the early 1920s. It was the first purpose built womens rest rooms in Australasia. The building is well recognised as part of the Hastings historic landscape and this project will ensure that the building is available for use well into the future."
Cynthia Bowers says "The Womens Rest has always played an important role for women and these refurbishments will ensure that this continues."
The Heretaunga Womens Centre Society, Chair Genevieve Beech says "We are delighted to see this project begin and are grateful to Hastings District Council for all the work that is being undertaken. The Heretaunga Womens Centre will continue to offer low-cost counselling and an information Centre from the Lotus Holistic Centre at 1028 St Aubyn Street while the Womens Rest building is closed."
Genevieve Beech says, "The renovation of the Womens Rest building will significantly increase the Centres ability to deliver community services in a safe, warm and supportive environment. The Centre currently has 37 counseling clients, but continues to have a long waiting list. Once the upgrade is complete, the Centre will be able to expand its counseling service and extend the number of low-cost courses that are offered. It will deliver more support groups for the growing number of elderly women in our community and for Maori and migrant women."
The Heretaunga Womens Centre is grateful to the following organisations for their support; The Anne-Marie OSullivan Foundation; Eastern and Central Community Trust; Lotteries; COGS; Vavasour Charitable Trust; Hawkes Bay Foundation; The Lion Foundation; Endeavour Community Foundation Ltd; Infinity Foundation; Springhill Charitable Trust and Frimley Foundation; Flaxmere Licensing Trust; Community Post; Holcim Hastings Quarry; The John Mitchell McLachlan Charitable Trust; Sanderson Trust; Pam Torbett Charitable Trust; Bernard Chambers Trust and Piccolini Kindergartens.
The project is expected to be completed by March 2015.

Looking to save money on your utility bill this winter? You may be interested in a free home energy audit by NorthWestern Energy.
As part of NorthWestern Energy's E+ program, a team of energy experts will be working throughout Montana the month of December.
The team has a number of openings for the audits, which provide a detailed report on a home's energy use, weatherization tips and information on energy-efficient practices. In some cases, the experts may, at no charge, install water-heater wraps, low-flow shower heads, low-flow faucet aerators and insulation of hot-water pipes.
The auditors will also inspect natural-gas fueled appliances and perform blower tests to spot areas of air leakage in homes.
The free audits can be scheduled by calling (800) 823-5995 or customers can fill out a form at NorthWesternEnergy.com/audit and a representative will call the customer at their convenience for scheduling.
Residential customers whose space or hot-water heating fuels are delivered by NorthWestern Energy, have not had an E+ audit in the past and whose home is more than five years old are eligible for an on-site energy audit. Other restrictions may apply and funding for the audit program, provided by the Universal System Benefits program, is limited.
