Grieve, then clear the decks for a really wonderful guy

    - December 3, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

    Dear Carolyn

DEAR CAROLYN: How important is it for me to express my thoughts and feelings about the end of our relationship to my ex? I dated this wonderful guy for a few months, and then one day he said via email that he didnt think we were a good fit, and that was the end. We had one phone conversation that ended up being me asking questions and him getting defensive. I havent seen him face-to-face since the day before the breakup.

I have completely opposite thoughts as him, apparently. I thought things were wonderful and I really, really liked him. Now Im having a hard time moving on because, literally, the only bad memory I have of him is the email. I think he is wrong and I dont feel like I ever got a chance to say what I thought.

Ive been hanging on to hope that he will come back. Ive been trying to decide whether or not to contact him to clarify what hed said (though the email language is pretty final) and to find out if he cares what my thoughts are on the subject. Thoughts and help?

    Post-Breakup Blues

DEAR POST-BREAKUP BLUES: Im sorry. Im sorry things didnt work out as you had hoped. Im sorry he cut you off abruptly. Im sorry you didnt see any signs to prepare you. Im sorry your last conversation gave you no satisfaction.

And Im sorry I cant offer you anything youre asking of me. I cant say, Yes, contact him, share your thoughts because he has made clear where he stands on your thoughts by not asking for them.

Hope, meanwhile, does nothing for you. It not only holds you in a place the facts dont support, but also actively talks you out of accepting what the facts are saying. Fact: He chose not to keep dating you. Fact: He has not taken any steps to reverse this choice. Fact: Breakups dont have to be fair or logical.

Accordingly, I cant leave the notion unchallenged that he is wrong and you are right, because this is not a math problem. If he writes the equation of your relationship as 1 + 1 (equal sign) 0, then thats as correct as he needs to be. You can be perfect for each other (assuming there were some objective way to measure that), and still split just because one of you wants to.

But heres a different kind of fact thats actually in your favor, if you choose to embrace it: What makes a relationship wonderful is two people who mutually, gratefully seek each others company.

Five Arrested For Stealing Holiday Packages From Front Porches

    - December 3, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

CHICAGO (CBS) Police were warning residents to be careful when having holiday gifts delivered to their homes, after five people were arrested for stealing packages from victims front porches in three separate incidents.

Police said the three incidents on Monday were not related, but all involved suspects stealing parcels that had been delivered to homes on the North Side, and left outside the homes.

Travis Slaughtaire, 21, was charged with one count of felony theft, and Dwayne Bullock, 20, was charged with misdemeanor theft, for allegedly stealing two packages from the porch of a home in the 1700 block of West Diversey Avenue around 10 a.m. Monday.

Elizabeth Quilez, 49, was charged with two counts of felony theft, after allegedly stealing packages from the front porches of two homes on the 6200 and 6300 blocks of West Patterson Avenue around 2:45 p.m.

In both instances, the stolen items were recovered and returned to the victims, police said.

A 50-year-old man and a 39-year-old woman were arrested around 3:30 p.m. after stealing a package from the front of a home on the 1600 block of North Wood Street. Charges were pending against the pair.

Police said, during the holidays, police often target delivery trucks, follow them, and then steal packages left outside homes. Sometimes the thieves are so brazen, they open the packages right then, and if they dont like whats inside, they just leave it there.

Police advised shoppers to make sure they get what they ordered by having packages delivered to a place where they or someone else will be to accept the package when its delivered such as their workplace, or the home of a friend or relative who is at home during the day and make sure a signature is required for delivery, so the package wont simply be left on the porch or doorstep.

Lori Boym had three packages swiped from her front door this year and now shipping to her home is no longer an option.

I have everything come to the office, she said.

Police arrest 2 package snatching suspects

    - December 3, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

BELLEFONTE, Pa. (AP) - Police say they've arrested two men suspected of snatching packages from porches and doorsteps in central Pennsylvania since October.

But WJAC-TV (http://bit.ly/12lMOLC ) reports investigators aren't naming the men - who are being held on other warrants - because they're still trying to recover the stolen packages and determine how many the men stole.

The investigation began in Bellefonte and Spring Township, but police in Ferguson and Patton townships - also in Centre County - started receiving similar reports, too.

Some witnesses saw a silver-colored van in the area of some theft and police say the van's owner was wanted on some older charges when they caught up to the men Monday.

Police say they found some of the stolen packages in the van and police say at least 20 packages have been taken so far.

Package Thief In Highland Caught On Video

    - December 3, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

HIGHLAND (CBSLA.com) Police are searching for a man who was caught on video stealing packages from porches moments after UPS drops them off.

San Bernardino County Sheriffs detectives say a man was seen on surveillance video following a UPS truck while the driver made deliveries in the 28000 block of Foxtail Way in East Highland.

Moments after the UPS driver leaves the package on the porch of the residences, the suspect parks around the corner, gets out of his car and takes the packages from the porch, authorities said.

The suspect was described as a black man with a shaved head and a short braided goatee. He drove a newer model, maroon Nissan sedan, possibly an Altima or Maxima.

Because of the holiday season and increased number of packages being delivered, detectives believe there may be more victims. Anyone with information about the suspect or who believes they are a victim can call Detective Matthew Mayer or Sergeant Ryan Collins at (909) 425-9793.

Church of the Ascension to be converted to senior housing

    - December 3, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Faced with the burden of caring for its aging building, a shrinking downtown Episcopal church is relocating to another parish in the city, while its longtime home on Linwood Avenue will be converted into a senior housing project by the operator of Canterbury Woods.

The Church of the Ascension at 16 Linwood Ave. at the corner of North Street will move three miles north to the campus of the Church of the Good Shepherd at 96 Jewett Parkway. It also will rename itself the Church of the Ascension at Good Shepherd, according to a press release and posting on its website.

When caring for a building limits the energy a congregation has for ministry, its time for a change, the church posted on its website. The church is not a building. Any church, Ascension included, is really a group of people in close relationship with God and one another.

Officials stressed, though, that the two churches are not merging. The congregations have maintained a covenant relationship since 2011, the website continued, so sharing space made perfect sense to both churches when Ascension began looking for a new base. However, Ascension will maintain its own congregation and its 4:30 p.m. Sunday service and monthly Pet Food Pantry.

The Church of the Ascension is not closing, the website said. Rather, it is evolving, adapting to the 21st century reality of how to be the church.

Like many parishes, Ascension has been shrinking as the demographics around it changed. The parish had 338 active members in 1975, but membership plunged to just 39 in 2013, according to the Episcopal Diocese of Western New York.

That created urgent financial pressures that threatened the churchs future. Over the past three years alone, the church has spent nearly $80,000 on building maintenance. If it had not taken these steps, it would have closed within six months, said Laurie Wozniak, spokeswoman for the Episcopal Diocese of Western New York.

The congregation of the Church of the Ascension is committed to mission work. When the cost of maintaining the building on North Street began to negatively affect that work, the decision to move was made prayerfully and with much deliberation, said the Rev. Cathy Dempesy-Sims, Ascensions priest.

The congregation and I believe that in doing so, we are being good stewards of both our money and the building, which will go on to serve the surrounding community in new ways.

The 164-year-old churchs historic building will now be re-purposed for senior housing by Episcopal Church Home & Affiliates, which runs the high-end continuing care community Canterbury Woods in Amherst and is constructing a similar but smaller facility at the former Millard Fillmore Gates Circle Hospital site.
