NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) Its a happy day for hitters.

Mired in a streak of six straight losing seasons and hoping to boost offense, the New York Mets are moving in their fences at Citi Field for the second time.

The Mets unveiled the new dimensions Tuesday, which bring in the fences 3-to-11 feet in front of the bullpens in right field. Right-center field will be 380 feet, down from 390 the past three years and 415 in the ballparks first three seasons.

Trying to take the dimensions of the park out of the conversation, so its not something thats discussed in the clubhouse, its not discussed in the media, its not something our fans have to talk about, Mets general manager Sandy Alderson said. We want the ballpark to be fair, but a few more home runs for us wouldnt be a bad thing, and a little more scoring is I think something most fans enjoy not all, not baseball purists by any means, but there arent a lot of baseball purists left.

Speaking in front of the new fence on a blustery afternoon with the temperature below freezing, Alderson said the teams research projected there would have been 27 additional home runs this year under the new dimensions. The Mets would have hit 17, including nine by Curtis Granderson and four by Lucas Duda.

According to STATS, Citi Field was last in the major leagues in home runs during its first three seasons with an average of 1.43 per game. The Mets cut the dimensions by as much as 12 feet after 2011 and lowered the fence height from 16 to 8 feet in left, and Citi Field jumped to 19th in home runs from 2012-14 at 1.79.

New York has built its team around pitching, with Matt Harvey returning next year following Tommy John surgery to join NL Rookie of the Year Jacob deGrom and Zack Wheeler as the nucleus of a young rotation. Alderson acknowledged some might find bringing in the fences counterintuitive.

Id say there is less of a conscious effort to build the team around pitching than would be apparent, he said. Thats what our strength is, and so thats something we want to take advantage of. But its all relative. So if we have the kind of pitching that wont be adversely affected by a change like this and our hitters can take advantage of it, then from a comparative standpoint were better off.

Because the changes are in right field, they may not restore David Wrights power. He hit 70 home runs in 4 1/2 seasons at Shea Stadium but has just 46 in six years at Citi Field.

Myrval Oneil Pelletier, 76, of Hubert, passed away Thursday, Nov. 13, 2014, at Carteret General Hospital in Morehead City.

His service was held Tuesday at Jones Funeral Home in Swansboro with the Rev. Sandy Bain officiating.

Born on April 21, 1938, in Newport, he was a son of the late William Levi and Bessie Barnes Pelletier. He was a civil service electrician at Camp Lejeune.

Surviving are his two daughters, Crystal Morton and husband Steve of Peletier and Robbin Horner and husband Jimmy of Hubert; two brothers, Larry Pelletier of Salem, Va., and Lylon Pelletier of Arkansas; and five grandchildren, Crystal Horner, Travis Morton and wife Erin, Rachel Morton, James David Horner and Rowdy Horner.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Pearl Pelletier.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Raab Cancer Clinic, 302 Medical Park Court, Morehead City, N.C. 28557.

Samsung is mounting a serious challenge to Sonos in the multi-room audio market. Samsungs Shape product line includes the M7 Wireless Audio Speaker reviewed here; a pair of smaller siblings, the Shape M5 and M3; several Wireless Audio Soundbars; and a Link Mate box that lets you add non-networked audio gear to its system.

As with Sonos numerous self-powered speakers, you can deploy a single Shape speaker and control it with your smartphone over your home network. But the real fun starts when you deploy Shapespeakers all over the house. Samsungs solution isnt as elegant as the Sonos mesh network, and Samsung doesnt support nearly as many online music services, but the M7 speaker sounds pretty good.

Samsung sent two M7s and an HW-H750 sound bar so I could evaluate the individual speakers as well as the products multi-room chops. This review focuses on the M7 and my installation experience with the system as a whole. Ill review the HW-H750 later.

Samsungs optional hub is actually a requirement if you want to set up a multi-room system using its Shape-series speakers.

Youll need Samsungs dual-band (2.4-/5GHz) WAM250 hub if you want to set up a multi-room audio system, using whatever combination of Shape speakers and wireless sound bars you decide to deploy. This little box plugs into your Wi-Fi router and enables Samsungs smartphone app to see all the speakers. Its wall wart is way out of proportion to the boxs size, but Samsung thoughtfully provides a two-port ethernet switch inside of it so you wont lose any hardwired ports on your router.

Installing the system isnt at all complicated, but it can take a long time. After you fire up the hub, you plug in the speaker. It emits some tones to let you know its starting up, and a blue light on its front panel starts blinking. The light glows solid blue once the speaker has connected with the hub, but this was taking much too long. I was sure Id done something wrong.

Each speaker can run independently or be grouped together to play the same tracks.

A quick peek at the user manual yielded this surprising tidbit: It can take the hub up to 20 minutes to connect to your network, and it can take the speaker up to 10 minutes to connect to the hub. I didnt time how long my setup took, but it seemed like an eternity.

Enduring the wait isnt the worst part: The speaker emits an incessant beep that sounds exactly like water falling from your homes roof gutter to the bottom of its downspout. Its torture. But once youve configured the hub and one speaker, adding additional speakers is practically automatic.

Pair the speaker and your smartphone using Bluetooth, and you can control the speakers using the free Samsung Multiroom app (available for Android and iOS phones).The pairing process is rendered particularly easy with an Android phone, because theres an NFC chip embedded in the speaker. Just tap your phone on top of the speaker and youre ready to go. Setting up an iPhone requires a few additional steps.
