The enterprise networking market is expected to reach $1,054 million by 2017 with a major chunk accounted for by SDN

Wider acceptance of social networking, mobility, big data, analytics and the cloud (SMAC) is driving the networking market. According to Gartner, the enterprise networking market will touch $887 million in 2014 and reach $1,054 million by 2017.

Today, the point of discussion with customers is around technologies such as SDN, data center network upgradation, and the convergence of network and wireless. We believe these solutions and services will drive business in the next 12-18 months, says Umesh Shah, Director, Orient Technologies, Mumbai.

SDN Indian businesses are now accepting SDN as a serious investment option. Says Amandeep Singh Dang, Country Manager, Dell Networking, In India, we expect 30-40 percent of the enterprise networking market to move to SDN by 2017. This means an opportunity worth $350 million-$400 million by 2017.

Adds Neel Shah, Managing Director, Insight Business Machines, Mumbai, Although most customers are still testing the waters with partial implementation, the momentum will accelerate in the next 1-2 years. Greenfield projects will be more inclined to opt for full-fledged SDN.

Customers now understand that SDN will be the future and are readying the base for SDN transformation, he remarks. We have seen increased acceptance and executed several networking projects where customers have deployed SDN-ready products.

Revamp in data centers Another big transformation is taking place inside data centers. With cloud computing emerging as a widespread practice, the demands on network switches and routers inside data centers have increased.

When New York City emergency crews rescued two window cleaners dangling from broken scaffolding last week, some in Gresham took note.

Rescue workers had to cut through the glass wall of the 68th floor of One World Trade Center to bring the two men to safety. Thirteen thousand of those windows had been assembled and glazed at the Benson Industries Inc. factory on Northeast Halsey Street and Northeast 181st Avenue. The factory no longer exists.

They had to grind out an opening big enough for a guy to walk through, said Jeremy Mucha, vice president of engineering for Portland-based Benson. Mucha explained that crews used a diamond-tipped grinder on a half-inch thick interior pane then broke out the thinner outer window.

The two men on the maintenance crew were subcontracted from Benson to Uptown Services Window Cleaning, but Mucha noted that the company that supplied the faulty rigging was separate.

The port authority owns the maintenance equipment and are going to find out what was wrong with it, Mucha said. He noted that the emergency safety lines and emergency crews all worked as they should have to prevent tragedy.

The Guardian newspaper reports that the scaffolding was supplied by U.K.-based Tactel Group, who has had two other similar malfunctions in recent years.

The workers were uninjured and rescued around 2:15 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 12, after 90 minutes spent clinging to the rigging over the New York skyline, CNN reported.

The hole is now boarded up and a Benson crew will install a new window this week. Once the silicone caulking cures, Mucha said, the crew will need to go back out on a swing-stage scaffold to finish replacing the glass.

Begun in 2009, it was a four-year process for Benson to install the curtain wall the outer skin of the skyscraper. The 1,776-foot-tall One World Trade Center officially opened Nov. 3, according to CNN.

Mucha said when the story hit the national news, everybody called wondering if they knew that our building was on TV.

Fireplaces, wood stoves and gas furnaces should be installed according to manufacturers instructions and in accordance with all building codes.

Have your heating system, water heater, stove and other fuel-burning appliances serviced by a qualified technician at least once a year.

Change heating furnace filters often to increase efficiency and avoid overworking the system.

Ensure adequate ventilation for fireplaces and wood stoves.

Use only the fuel thats recommended for the specific fireplace or stove.

Do not burn paper or paper products in a fireplace or wood-burning stove.

Check chimney or stovepipes often for creosote buildup and clean when needed.

Keep matches and lighters out of the reach of children.

Use a metal container for removing ash and coals.

For many people with backyard ponds, fountains and other water-garden fixtures, the arrival of cold weather means draining the pipes and pulling the plug.

But water gardens can be attractive winter gardens, too, with the right preparation and landscaping.

Turning off a garden's water fixtures may not be necessary, depending on where you live, said Keith Folsom, president of Springdale Water Gardens in Greenville, Virginia. "Their wintertime effect is always different and attractive with the use of landscape lighting and the right plants."

"We had an extremely cold winter here last year but it wasn't a problem," he said. "Pay attention and know how much water you're using below the ice. You have to keep that flow topped off."

Ensure that water lines and fixtures are drained if you do decide to turn them off so they won't expand with freezing and break, Folsom said. "Running water, on the other hand, prevents icing. That's one of the reasons I tell people to keep them running."

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - ??Here is a list of road projects around the Heartland scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 19.

Butler County, MO

Route 72 in Bollinger County will be reduced to one lane as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform shoulders repairs. This section of roadway is located from Old Route 72 to Route B.

Existing lanes of Route 67 from CR 323 to Route 160/158 will be signed as Route C. The north end of Route C (existing Route 67) will remain closed for about two months as work is completed at the intersection of Route 67, Route C, and CR 323.

Cape Girardeau County, MO

Northbound Interstate 55 in Cape Girardeau County will be reduced with a width restriction of 16 feet as contractor crews perform pavement repairs.This section of roadway is located from MM 91 to MM 93.Weather permitting, work will take place Tuesday, Nov. 18 through Thursday, Nov. 20 from 7 p.m. to 8 a.m. daily.

Property owners adjacent to the bridge will have access to their properties. A marked detour is proposed here:

From the north: Route 61 south to Route KK, west on KK to I-55, south on I-55 to Route E, then east on Route E to Route 61. From the south: Route 61 north to Route E, east on Route E to I-55, north on I-55 to Route KK, then east on KK to Route 61. Maps are available at MoDOT's Sikeston Office on N. Main St. Property owners can request a hearing in writing if affected.

Reynolds County, MO

As a both a safety measure and to prepare for the winter snow season, the Missouri Department of Transportation will begin tree trimming will begin Monday, Dec. 15 through Friday, Feb. 13, 2015 on Route 106 in Reynolds and Shannon Counties. Once work begins, tree trimming will take place during the hours of 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday on Route 106 from Route 19 in Eminence to Route 21 in Ellington.

CHICAGOCold temperatures, heavy snow, and treacherous ice storms are all risks of the impending winter season.

Severe winter weather can be dangerous and even life-threatening for people who dont take the proper precautions, said FEMA Region V acting administrator Janet Odeshoo. Preparedness begins with knowing your risks, making a communications plan with your family and having an emergency supply kit with essentials such as water, food, flashlights and medications.

Once youve taken these steps, consider going beyond the basics of disaster preparedness with the following tips to stay safe this cold season.

Before winter approaches, add the following items to your supply kit: Winterize your winter supply kit Rock salt or other environmentally safe products to melt ice on walkways Sand to improve traction Snow shovels and other snow removal equipment Sufficient heating fuel and/or a good supply of dry, seasoned wood for your fireplace or wood-burning stove Adequate clothing and blankets to keep you warm.

Stay fire safe Keep flammable items at least 3 feet from heat sources like radiators, space heaters, fireplaces and wood stoves. Plug only one heat-producing appliance (such as a space heater) into an electrical outlet at a time.

Ensure you have a working smoke alarm on every level of your home. Check it on a monthly basis. Keep warm, even when its cold outside: If you have a furnace, have it inspected now to ensure its in good working condition.

If your home heating requires propane gas, stock up on your propane supply and ensure you have enough to last an entire winter. Many homeowners faced shortages due to the record freezing winter weather last year, and this season theres the possibility of lower than normal temperatures again. Dont be caught unprepared.

Avoid the dangers of carbon monoxide by installing battery-powered or battery back-up carbon monoxide detectors.

Winterize your home to extend the life of your fuel supply by insulating walls and attics, caulking and weather-stripping doors and windows, and installing storm windows or covering windows with plastic.

Prevent frozen pipes If your pipes are vulnerable to freezing, i.e., they run through an unheated or unprotected space, consider keeping your faucet at a slow drip when extremely cold temperatures are predicted.
