A school that was made famous in the film Gregory's Girl is being flattened by demolition crews, despite a desperate campaign to keep it open.
Bulldozers today began tearing down Abronhill High in Cumbernauld, Lanarkshire, where the 1981 Bill Forsyth film was shot.
The work - expected to last one week - comes after parents and campaigners threatened to take legal action in a bid to keep the school open.

Commissioner sees demolition project as policy under scrutiny
City Commissioner Nick Fish is about to find out whether the growing anger about residential infill projects is justified.
A developer plans to more than double the size of the 90-year-old house next to where Fish lives on a quiet stretch of Northeast Cesar Chavez Boulevard. Portland Development Group Investment intends to tear down most of the one-story, 1,447-square-foot house and rebuild it as a two-story, 3,423-square-foot house.
The house was sold for $349,900 in September. The Portland Realty Group, which is marketing the property, plans to sell it for $849,000 when the remodeling project is complete. Real estate broker Barry Smith says the work should begin in about two months and be completed within six.
Fish told the Portland Tribune he has no reaction to the project, other than, I expect them to follow the code.
The project is an example of the kind of infill development that is being protested across Portland: older homes being replaced or remodeled into larger, more expensive ones. A group of neighborhood activists is drafting a proposal to slow the pace of such projects, which is increasing as the economy improves. They are circulating a resolution for presentation to the City Council in December calling for the creation of an citywide advisory committee to craft new policies on the issue.
Fish has not said much about the controversy. Commissioner Amanda Fritz has been working on some of the issues through the Bureau of Development Services, which she oversees.
But Fish has been criticized for not stopping the sale of surplus Water Bureau property to a residential developer in Southwest Portland. Residents living near an unused water tank protested its sale to Renaissance Homes, saying they did not even know it was being put on the market. Fish said he could not legally cancel the sale, which occurred before he was put in charge of the water bureau. Signs objecting to the sale continue to dot streets around the property, however.
No demolition permit
Residential demolition projects are increasing as the economy recovers from the Great Recession and more people want to live in close-in Portland neighborhoods. Last year, 273 demolition permits were issued by the Bureau of Development Services more than the 270 issued in 2006, shortly before the housing bubble burst. The number is expected to top 300 by the end of the year, and increase in 2015.

Construction of three new Habitat homes started over the weekend in Woodstock, bringing one man to tears.
Habitat for Humanity North Central Georgia began construction Saturday and Peter Uk could not have been happier.
We had a lot of difficulty in my country and in Malaysia, Uk said as tears ran down his face. When we came to America to start a new life, we didnt have anything. But by the grace of God we were able to get to the United States, and now we can have an affordable home.
Uk and his wife, Yung Niang Uk, moved to the U.S. in 2010 after living in Malaysia for three years. The couple fled their home country of Burma when their Christian faith brought them persecution.
The family now lives in Cumming as they wait for their home to be built in Woodstock. The couple are parents to Betsy, 4, Zahaala, 2, and a 1-year-old son, Samuel.
Mount Pisgah United Methodist Church, Northbrook United Methodist Church, Roswell Presbyterian Church, Roswell United Methodist Church, Saint Aidans Episcopal Church, Saint James United Methodist and Zion Missionary Baptist Church jointly helped to support the Uks new house.
Construction also began on houses for the Navarro and Afidegnon families.
Abigail Navarro was 9 years old when she and her family immigrated to the United States from El Salvador, Central America, in 1990.She and her three daughters now live in Alpharetta, in an overcrowded townhouse with family members.
Navarro works for the Interactive College of Technology in Chamblee, where she has been employed for about two years.
I would like to thank every single person here, and naturally, God; and Habitat for giving me the opportunity to have a decent home for my kids. You have no idea how happy I was when they gave me the call that I was approved for a home.I thank everybody for the work youre going to put into my house,Navarro said.

A 41-YEAR-OLD woman died Tuesdaywhen her Volvo sped across Kelly Drive, hit a retaining wall and went airborne, plunging into the Schuylkill, police said.
Two other motorists witnessed the horrific wreck that happened minutes before noon, Chief Inspector Joe Sullivan said. The witnesses told police that the Volvo was speeding down Hunting Park Avenue toward the river, then ran the red light at Kelly Drive, crossed the road and hit the water.
The witnesses called police and stayed at the scene to direct officers to where the car went under. The Fire Department and police Marine Unit were called, Sullivan said, and divers located the car quickly but were unable to get its doors open underwater because it was badly damaged.
A heavy-rescue crew pulled the Volvo from the water, Sullivan said, but the woman had died inside. She was pronounced dead on the riverbank at 1:35 p.m., police said.
Sullivan said accident-investigation officers were probing the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash. He said there were no skid marks on the pavement indicating that the woman had hit the brakes, and it was too early to determine what made her drive into the river.
The victim's identity had not been released as of Tuesday night.
