COEUR d'ALENE - The Innovation Collective isn't quite finished remodeling its new co-work space in the basement of the Sherman Mall, but it already has 10 people using the space.
"It's still kind of coming together, but we have HVAC now. We have heat, water and new electrical work," said Nick Smoot, co-founder of the Innovation Collective. "It's a whole new world."
Smoot said he has 10 people working in the space now, and a list of 30 others who want to use the space. His goal is to finish the IC:Work space by Dec. 1.
"We even have one guy that does web design for the United Nations, who wants space," he said, adding the IC:Work space has one gigabyte of Internet for its tenants to use.
He is also working on a classroom setting in one corner of the space because he is getting a lot of inquiries from people who want to rent space for events.
As all of that comes together, Smoot said, the collective is also branching out a bit.
In fact, on Friday, Smoot met Idaho Department of Commerce Director Jeff Sayer to discuss technology efforts which are cropping up all over Idaho.
"Nick has been telling me about this place for a while now," Sayer said. "I've really been wanting to see this."
Sayer said hubs of technology are sprouting across the state, and he has been talking with Smoot about how to "pull it all together."
Smoot said he has also been talking with people in other parts of the country about how to expand the Innovation Collective in their communities.

Less than 10 months ago, the house at 145 Galley Ave. was uninhabitable. Now, it is unrecognizable.
The Roncesvalles home was so dilapidated when its elderly owner put it on the market for $649,900 last January, the MLS listing warned open-house enthusiasts to leave the kids at home: Not for the faint of heart.
The furnace hadnt worked in years. The walls were grey from the soot kicked out by kerosene heaters. Windows were missing. The roof was a sieve.
Still, more than 30 folks bid on the house. It sold for $803,649 more than $150,000 over the asking price.
Its up for sale again for $1.5 million.
This is just in keeping with whats been happening in the area, says contractor Michael DeSimone as workers applied the finishing touches, aiming to have it ready for visitors by Dec. 1.
Ten years ago, this Roncesvalles/Parkdale area was in need of revitalization. These things help in that, he says, glancing at the stunning transformation.
An unprecedented renovation/restoration/rejuvenation binge is sweeping the streets of the old City of Toronto and having a significant impact on overall house prices, which were yet again up, this time almost nine per cent, across the GTA in October, year over year.
Last April, for instance, a surge of new infill homes in the 416 region was enough to briefly skew the average mid-month sale price of detached homes in the City of Toronto to an unprecedented $1 million. That average has since settled back down to $950,000.
This renovation and rebuilding boom is fuelled by what James McKellar, director of the real estate and infrastructure program at York Universitys Schulich School of Business, calls a major structural shift in the consumer market for housing.

By Sarah Rigg Special to Washtenaw Now
Briarwood Ford, 7070 E. Michigan Ave., in Pittsfield Township, recently completed a major remodeling and renovation.
The dealership was founded in 1986 in downtown Saline, later moving to its current location. The business is co-owned by Steve Whitener and Eddie Hall.
We started in late June and had about 30 people in portable office trailers from late June until about Oct. 24 or 25, Whitener said. Our target date was Thanksgiving, but we ended up back in about a month early. Everybody is back in the building now, and everybody is glad about that.
The renovation includes a bit of extra room, with the dealerships showroom being expanded 22 feet in length, Whitener said.
Weve been here 26 years and weve done some cosmetic work to keep it fresh, but its our first major remodel, he said. The front of the building, the showroom and offices are almost 100 percent new.
All the walls, carpet and furniture are new, and each employee has a new desk and storage areas.
We also updated the customer lounge, the restrooms all the customer touchpoints are 100 percent new, Whitener said. Its a great thing for the customers but also for employee morale. We have almost 80 employees here, and a lot of them have been here 15 or 20 years or more, and its nice for them to walk in and have a new desk and office space.
The main aim of the remodeling project was to update the look of the building, but some technology upgrades were also included.
