Sandbox, Inc., launched via a campaign on Indiegogo 10 days ago, has surpassed its 60-day goal in the first week, signing up over 200 families in 15 countries.
Home security products have traditionally included old-fashioned door and window intrusion devices, touch pads, frosted-glass motion sensors, sirens and expensive monitoring services. They come with cumbersome paperwork, high upfront costs, disruptive installation procedures, and punitive 3-5 year contracts. At over $40/month for the most basic and limited-feature service, families pay $500 per year, or $1,500-$2,500 over the contract period. Adding video can significantly increase the paperwork, upfront costs, and installation process and double the monthly fees. SandboxHome redefines all of this.
The SandboxHome is an all-wireless product that a family can install in 15 minutes. It is considerably more complete and full-featured than other options available today, and includes:
Whenever motion or intrusion is sensed by SandboxHome, customers instantly receive text, sound, photo and video alerts on their smartphones, tablets, or computers. Compact wireless intrusion sensors guard the homes doors and windows. Wireless HD security cameras can be easily set up in any room, and moved at will. And SandboxHomes signature wireless smart doorbell allows users to hear the chime, see and interact with whoever is at the door. Users have instant access to camera and smart doorbell video, audio and sensor data from anywhere in the world using SandboxHomes iOS, Android and Windows apps. It includes a plethora of smart features including the ability for users to set up motion thresholds, so their sensors dont go off whenever a pet moves across the room. SandboxHome is configurable to a familys unique requirements. It includes tools for users to store motion-activated video and sound clips on their computers or cloud storage accounts.
SandboxHome has advanced computing, WiFi, networking, video and audio encoding, motion sensing, battery, encryption and related technologies packed into a compact device.
Sandboxs founder, Mike Reddy said, Families want and need basic, affordable security in their homes. They want to be alerted instantly to whats happening wherever they may be and whatever they may be doing. At work, in the car, at a restaurant or even out of town. And video is a must-have for a family security solution to be effective and actionable. SandboxHome provides all of these.
Mike Reddy continued, Perhaps the SandboxHomes most compelling aspect is its price. At a planned retail price of $499, and discounted by up to 40% for advance orders during our launch campaign on Indiegogo, this is truly a family security product. When you compare the complete $375 SandboxHome family security solution to traditional services that provide way less and cost way more, or to standalone security cameras such as the Dropcam which cost $200 each, you can see why SandboxHome is so appealing. With SandboxHome, the family owns the attractive system and has no further monthly fees. If the family chooses to sign up for 24/7 professional monitoring, the fee for that optional service is $5 per month, with no contracts, paperwork or long term commitments.
Sandbox is currently taking pre-orders on Indiegogo for delivery of the SandboxHome in March 2015. The prices for advance orders placed during SandboxHomes introductory launch are at discounts of up to 50% from the retail prices at which the products are expected to be available on Amazon and in specialty electronics and home improvement stores worldwide after March.

St. Louis, MO (PRWEB) November 06, 2014
On October 20, The Wall Street Journal published an article estimating that overall heating costs for American homeowners would be much lower this winter than in years past. Homeowners, the article states, can expect heating bills to be as much as 27% lower than last year, thanks in no small part to a winter that is expected to be a lot milder than last year's constant string of blizzards and bitterly cold days.
Vitt Heating & Air Conditioning Co., Inc., a veteran heating and cooling company based in St. Louis, believes that The Wall Street Journal's predictions are likely to come true. Jeffrey Vitt, Vice President of Vitt Heating & Air Conditioning Co., Inc. is urging homeowners to take extra steps this year, both to keep costs low and homes safe.
"It's a good idea to do an annual maintenance run through; if your system is not clean, it may not operate properly, which would mean decreased efficiency and higher heating bills," Vitt notes. "Also there are safety aspects to consider: a furnace, for example, can fail if it's not tuned up. A malfunctioning furnace not only increases energy bills, it can also be a significant safety issue."
Beyond his tips for keeping home heating and cooling units running efficiently and safely, Vitt goes on to say that many of the most common issues can keep furnaces from starting altogether. "One of the most common issues we see when performing furnace repair services is a failed ignition system. The gas can be on, but the furnace just won't light. Obviously, we need to get this fixed right away to keep our clients' and their families warm and healthy."
Speaking on the accuracy of The Wall Street Journal's article, Vitt said only, "there's no doubt in our minds that this winter will be more affordable for American homeowners, but they have to take steps to keep their air systems in great shape if they ever want to see those savings."

Eau Claire (WQOW) - Several school referendum questions appeared on Tuesday's ballot, and voters approved more than half of them, including in the Altoona, Osseo-Fairchild and Mondovi school districts. This has the Eau Claire Area School District looking at its future.
There are over 11,000 students in the Eau Claire Area School District, and those students have growing needs.
That's why the district is discussing major projects now, like overhauling heating and cooling systems and repairing roofing. Richard Spindler, the school board president for the Eau Claire Area School District, said, "This first meeting is really just a discussion. Certainly a demographic of trends might affect that discussion if we should move forward with any facility changes."
One school that has been in need of significant repair is South Middle School. Last year, the district said the work could cost up to $22 million. One way to pay for those repairs could be through a referendum. Spindler said, "South (Middle School) has a number of facility needs that we need to be looking at."
Daniel Van De Water, the executive director of business services for the Eau Claire Area School District, said, "The district certainly wants to plan for the future. And, at some point in the future, it's going to be necessary to seek referendum dollars in order to do major project work, really in all the buildings in the district."
And, the school board president said the discussion needs to happen now. Spindler said, "Those discussions take a long time. You know, I don't want to suddenly decide, 5 months before an election, 'Oh, we need to do this'. We need to talk about it now, and see how it plays out over time and how the community feels about it."
In 2011, voters approved a nearly $52 million referendum. Much of that money went to expansion and improvement efforts for Delong Middle School.

ANALYSIS/OPINION:
Alfonso Soriano the greatest Washington National of all time has announced he lost his love for baseball and is retiring.
Ive lost the love and passion to play the game, Soriano reportedly said in a radio interview this week in his native Dominican Republic. Right now, my family is the most important thing.
Now he can go back to the multi-million-dollar Florida mansion he bought earlier this year the 7,800-square-foot Mediterranean mansion, gated and guarded by lion statues and spend more time with his family.
You know, the home he bought from Washington Redskins president and general manager Bruce Allen.
Yes, under the category of small world no, make that the small bizarre world of Washington sports, Soriano paid $2.7 million for the mansion owned by Allen, who was the general manager for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 2004-08.
Allen and his wife, Kiersten, bought the home in 2004 for $2.72 million and listed it for sale in January at $2.99 million, according to the Tampa Bay Times. He wound up selling it for the same price he paid for it 10 years earlier, the Times reported.
Its quite the palace.
Located in what the Times described as Tampas ritzy Avila country club, the mansion has seven bedrooms, eight bathrooms, a library and billiards room, endless closets and a 4,000-bottle wine room the size of a small apartment, the sales listing showed.
Thats a lot of Thunderbird.
