Window Genie celebrates grand opening week by giving back

    - November 6, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Milton, WI (PRWEB) November 06, 2014

Window Genie announces the grand opening of its newest location in Milton, WI on Monday November 10th. Window Genie is a nationally ranked home service franchise specializing in window cleaning, window tinting, pressure washing, gutter cleaning and more. Window Genie of South Wisconsin will serve customers in communities including Milton, Janesville and Edgerton. Lou Pins is the Owner/Operator.

Lou Pins spent the last 25 years in supply chain management at several companies in Southern Wisconsin. In recent years I noticed the large corporations I worked for were doing less and less on a local community level, he said. It seemed that profit became more important than culture, so I decided it was finally time for me to move on.

After putting his resume out online earlier this year, Pins was contacted by Franchise Coach, Marty Barnes of The Entrepreneurs Source. Pins said, Working with Marty was great because he helped me realize that business ownership would help me gain back what I was missing in my work-life balance. I wanted more freedom and I wanted to continue getting involved in my community.

After numerous conversations, Barnes presented Pins with 3 franchise opportunities he thought best fit Pins strengths, weaknesses, interests and goals; Window Genie was one of those 3 options. Off the bat I was interested in all three pretty equally, Pins said. But after visiting the websites and digging a bit deeper, speaking with the support teams and existing owners at each franchise, Window Genie was the clear choice. If nothing else, their family-like culture and commitment to community service had me sold.

Pins opens his business on Monday November 10th and will perform a free window cleaning at the home of Vietnam veteran, Dick Fry on Tuesday the 11th. Pins said, While I had not personally met him until recently, hes well known in the community and was Grand Marshal of the 2014 Milton 4th of July parade so he immediately came to mind when I was thinking of veterans in the Milton area. Fry was wounded while fighting in Cambodia on 5/24/1970 and retired from the military in 1971. Offering a free window cleaning is the best way for Window Genie to show our thanks and appreciation for Dicks service to our country. Establishing meaningful relationships with people in the area is how well do business. My wife Jackie was born and raised here and Ive lived here since 1987. Window Genie will allow us to stay connected and contribute to the community we love.

Pins plans to hire one or two additional technicians in his first few months of business. He said, Were excited to get our team trained and on the right track this fall with the pre-holiday cleaning so were prepared to knock it out of the park this spring.

    Maine farm growing unusual product

    - November 6, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

A Maine farm is making a name for itself growing a product you may have never heard of: it is called fodder.

Richard Thibeault's farm isn't typical. It fits in a single room inside a barn.

Thibeault spreads a tray full of barley seeds, and once hooked to the automatic watering system, he'll have fodder in less than a week.

    Photos: Made in Maine Fodder

"It gets fed water every two hours for one minute and in six days its ready to go," said Thibeault.

Once it's ready, the fodder is fed to livestock.

On Thibeault's farm, his horses and alpacas graze on grass and hay in the summer, but as the cold sets in that food becomes scares and more expensive.

"This has become something to fill that gap," said Thibeault.

Pam Harwood owns a nearby alpaca farm and is one of Thibeault's regular customers.

"It allows me to know that I'm going to give good nutrition, even if the hay isn't that good," said Harwood.

Council passes resolution to put grass at Fort Bliss National Cemetery

    - November 6, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

The Fort Bliss National Cemetery sustained some damage from Monday morning's rainfall. The northeast was hit by over five inches of rain. (MARK LAMBIE / EL PASO TIMES)

The El Paso City Council unanimously approved a resolution on Tuesday asking the Veterans Affairs National Cemetery Administration to replace the xeriscaping at Fort Bliss National Cemetery with grass and sod.

Since xeriscaping began at the cemetery in 2006, "every heavy rain event in El Paso results in widespread damage to the grave sites and tombstones," the resolution states. In the past two years alone, "1,600 graves were damaged at Fort Bliss National Cemetery," it states.

A spokesperson for Fort Bliss National Cemetery was unavailable for comment. More than 50,000 people are buried at the cemetery at 5200 Fred Wilson Drive.

Ray Rivera, an Army veteran who addressed the City Council, said that of the 131 national cemeteries across the country, only three others are xeriscaped.

"We were told before that the change was necessary in order to conserve water, but it may be costing more to repair the damaged graves and areas to the cemetery," Rivera said.

Rivera said he believed smaller, private cemeteries don't have the same problems to the degree that exist at Fort Bliss National Cemetery, and that one of them uses a small reservoir to store water.

City Rep. Carl Robinson, a veteran, said he and others led a charge to keep the grass at the cemetery before the xeriscaping was installed.

"We're dealing with a big bureaucracy in Washington, D.C., which needs to be persuaded to do this," Robinson said. "Input from many veterans and from additional members of Congress will be needed."

City officials said they have received complaints that relatives of veterans buried at the cemetery can't kneel around the tombstones because of the gravel that replaced the grass.

Announcing the Best Hardwood Floor Buff and Coat Local Trade Team, Courtesy of the Experienced Professionals at Royal …

    - November 6, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Milwaukee, WI (PRWEB) November 06, 2014

Hardwood innately possesses the ability to last for several generations and is known to function for years with the proper care. Homeowners and businesses choose wood flooring for its great looks and durability. It also outperforms such materials as laminate, carpet, and tile.

Now and again, wood flooring needs professional servicing to remain looking new. A skilled, high-quality hardwood floor buff and coat will do the trick.

Knowing when Flooring Needs Professional Care

Knowing when to have floors professionally serviced is the key to avoid more costly maintenance or even replacement. For instance, a new-protective finish applied from hard wood floor coating lasts between five and ten years.

The top coat will show signs of deterioration, which include dulling and sometimes, discoloration. Such phenomena are the result of years of foot traffic, humidity levels, tiny particles, and normal wear and tear.

When floors develop a dark look or cloudy sheen, it is time to have wood floor buff and coat professionals service the space. Scuffs and scrapes are also signs of needing skilled attention. Noticeable wear through the top coat is yet another indication of requiring professional grade service. Pet damage, in particular, scratches or gouges left from claws are another time when service is necessary.

    Keeping Hardwood Looking Great

Between each wood floor buff, regularly sweep and vacuum spaces. Do not apply abrasive cleaning agents, oils or soaps to hardwood and never a damp or wet mop. Place mats and rugs outside and within entryways to minimize the dirt and cleanup spills as soon as these occur.

Keep humidity levels consistent to avoid warping and place flooring protectors under furniture, especially chairs regularly moved. Do not pull or pry out protruding nails and never attempt to pull splinters from the floor. Call a professional to replace loose boards and never walk in spike sports shoes or sharp heels across hardwood.

5 feng shui tips to make your home a haven of calm

    - November 6, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

    By Lindsay Rothfeld2014-11-05 14:56:40 -0600

You have papers strewn across your living room floor, the cupboards aren't properly organized and you're in dire need of redecoration basically, you're living a cluttered life. This is where feng shui comes in. An ancient art of balancing energies in your physical space to create inner harmony, the Chinese philosophical system may be the breathe of fresh air you've been hoping for.

Mashable spoke with Dana Claudat, who writes about everyday feng shui on her blog The Tao of Dana, and asked her to spill some design and style tips for bringing feng shui to your home.

First, a little more about the art and science of feng shui: According to Claudat, space affects us in big ways, even though we may not realize it. Feng shui principles explain how our lives are a mirror of our environment, and how if you re-arrange your space, you change your life. Essentially, feng shui is the art of arranging your environment.

We're all too familiar with the horrible anxiety-provoking feeling that seeps in as we enter a messy home. And the moment we clean up that clutter, those ill feelings turn to clarity and peace. Feng shui creates this feeling by connecting us to nature. Whereas thousands of years ago, that connection was easier to make, in our hyper-developed world we often need to make effort to connect to nature and bring plants, moving water, crystals and even trees into our homes to create that natural, calming balance, Claudat says.

If growth is something you're craving in your life, think about greening your home by adding indoor trees or plants avoid the cactus, though, as dangerous spikes are considered bad juju when grown inside. Try placing them in places where you spend (or would like to spend) productive, positive time. Let's say your goal is to cook healthier food more often: Put a plant in your kitchen. Or, if you' like to be more productive at work, plants on your desk or home office can bring positive, creative energy to your work environment. The "chi," or life-force of the plant, will energize the space.

A "stuck" space" usually reflects a "stuck" life, so whether you're struggling with writer's block or are generally in a slump, moving things around the room can help liven the atmosphere. Feng shui has a magical number to help guide you through this process of getting unstuck: 27. Twenty-seven is a multiple of nine (a lucky number in traditional schools of feng shui), and when the single digits two and seven are added together, the result is nine as well. Just by moving 27 things around the room whether it's a paper clip or a desk you can bring energy to a room that was previously lacking it.

"I've totally reorganized the furniture in 'stuck energy' rooms to get them [to exude] excitement, while sometimes I only need to reorganize the junk drawer. Feel your way through this process, moving things around until you feel that you feel refreshed and re-inspired," Claudat suggests.

Peter Bowen is eyeing the December 6 feature as a likely starting point with the Crabbie's Grand National the plan if he takes to the unique fences.

The nine-year-old demonstrated his staying credentials with victory in the Scottish National in April, springing a 40-1 shock as he held off the 2013 victor Godsmejudge by a length and a half.

Bowen said: "He's going well and he'll probably have a spin around the National fences in the Becher Chase next month.

"The plan is to go for that race and then we'll see if he takes to the fences.

"If he does, we'll probably then give him a break and maybe have a run over hurdles before going for the National.

"I think he should like the fences, he jumps and he showed he stays at Ayr.

"He's done well over the summer and is back in full work with us."
