Finding a Handyman in Charlotte can be a trying experience to say the least. There are many people , persons and even handyman companies out there that are truly not qualified to be a handyman. DMR's Work Standards for Gutters The list below explains most of the details regarding our 31 unique advantages over most any other local Gutter Contractors for just basic gutter and downspout installations, which are well above Building Code. These don't even cover the descriptions of the our 'affordable' No-clog option advantages we've done on most gutter jobs over the past 18 years. To the right is a copy of our cover sheet I have as part of our presentation folder I give each client when providing them a bid. In this presentation folder I also provide a list of my current prices, a copy of the Better Business Bureau's NW Business Integrity Award for the year 1997/98, 10 page FAQ, consumer protection information required by the CCB, along with other consumer protection pamphlet they wrote, and of course a detailed bid with a selection of color options for the pre-painted aluminum gutter parts.

I also supply a physical sample of the gutter I install with a Monster Hidden Hanger screwed in place w/stainless steel screws. If the client is present at the time of the bid I also have a physical example of the Leaf-catcher we make, which has a stronger stainless steel screen in them, along with other samples of parts you will see no where else.

I, David Rich have been working in forms of paid construction work since 1980 coming up with innovative solutions. I was tested in school to have a 99% mechanical aptitude, with a high skill in spatial arrangement, math, and an artistic back ground. The first paid gig for wood working I got was building a large humanoid skeletal and muscular structure in a dramatic stance for a life-size Darth Vader costume I designed and made for the promotions of the Star Wars sequel 'Empire Strikes Back' in 1980 in Salt Lake City Utah, since they do not sell a 7' tall mannequin. That demonstrated my early remarkable ingenuity at just 17 years old. My fellow classmates must have thought I was nuts!

I was an auto mechanic at my Father's shop specializing in Honda 600 cars. I've specialized in custom rain management sheet metal fabrication and installation since 1992. In most cases I redesign the replacements to improve their rain management system from what was there before in numerous different ways not offered by other Gutter Contractors.

Tia Rich decided to set aside her career in Nursing and Social Work to join David in this line of work full time for a few years, so she understands this work from all angles as well. Tia is also very artistic and has a positive influences on this presentation and the gutter work. She still loves being active in this business, but she has built up her business as a Midwife, so getting her hands covered with spray paint, caulk, and cuts from working with the sheet-metal would not be good for her line of work these days. she does not physically work with David much any more, but is often found with him writing up bids. Hi, Im Rocky Matson for About.com, and today were going to show you how to install gutters.

Were using seamless gutters. They cost a little bit more, but they are well worth it. They help prevent your gutters from leaking. Seemed gutters almost always tend to leak after a while.

Well start with one ladder to measure the roof. Once you know how long your gutters need to be, have them cut to length. You can start on any corner of the house you want. Pick up the gutters and make sure they slide up tight underneath the drip edge.

Screw your gutter securely to the facia board or trusses. Facia board is better if your house has it like most houses do. This one doesnt, so well screw into the trusses. Work your way down the side of the house. Secure the gutters firmly every 18 inches to 2 feet. Any farther apart and it will be too flimsy.

Measure the downspouts. Cut them with snips. Use a level to make sure they are straight up and down. They dont have to be, but they will look better. Now put on the downspouts. When you put them together, make sure the top piece goes into the bottom piece.

It should be like this all the way down. That way you get a good flow of water and they wont leak. Put the pipe bands on and screw them to the downspouts with the self-tapping screws.

WREG reports that a couple of developers in Clarksdale, Miss., created a buzz by opening a new hotel that pays homage to a famous Delta Blues legend, in a very eye-opening way.

The sign for Hooker Hotel, on East 2nd Street in downtown Clarksdale, immediately got Pamela Vances attention.

It just amazed me. And I came back just to actually came back to see if I was reading the right thing or if something was wrong with my eyes, said Pamela Vance of Friars Point.

No, Pamela, theres nothing wrong with your vision. The sign clearly reads Hooker Hotel.

Its the newest place in Clarksdale to bed down for a night or two.

Cause the first impression I know, was in the gutter. But thats just where my mind went, said Vance.

But before you call the Vice Squad, you should know this unique hotel is named for Delta Blues legend John Lee Hooker.

Probably one of the better old-time Blues guys. Very popular in the 60s, John Magnusson, the builder and property manager for Hooker Hotel, said.

He added the name has drawn a lot of attention since it went up two weeks ago.

(FROM ANGIE'S LIST) - Gutter cleaning isn't glamorous, but it's one of the most important jobs on any fall to-do list.

Angie Hicks from Angie's List says, "Your gutters should not be ignored because leaves will gather there which will lead to mold as well as bugs, even ice damming in the winter. And if you're like some people, you might actually get a garden growing in your gutters which can be pretty embarrassing. So, taking care of them can lead to better health of your home, especially your roof."

Whether you do it yourself or hire a pro, don't neglect the downspouts when cleaning.

"You also want to make sure that all of your gutters are actually nailed in properly and look at your gutter boards and make sure that they are sealed," says Handyman Elden Foltz.

Once your gutters are clear, turn your attention to sealing drafts around windows and doors. Walk through your home with a lit candle or stick of incense to see where cold air is seeping in.

"If you don't seal the windows what's going to happen is a lot of energy is going to be dispensed out and you're going to lose money."

When sealing a window, make sure the area is free from dust and old paint or caulk.

"You can't take caulking and put caulking over top of it because all it's going to do is peel and break off. And it's not going to provide a good seal for that house," says Foltz.

Finally, Angie's List says you should focus on your lawn.

Hicks says, "Many people think this time of the year, 'Oh, I'm done with the lawn. I don't even want to mow anymore.' But the treatments you give your lawn, the fertilizing, this time of the year is the most important fertilizing you'll have. So, you if you're looking to have a great lawn next spring, don't skip out on the fall lawn care."
