Robert Hawksworth and Carol Jones of Yorkshire Water

    First published in News

PLUMBER ROBERT Hawksworth has become the 2,000th member of WaterSafe, a national approved plumber assurance scheme which was launched a year ago.

Robert Hawksworth, who runs Hawksworth Mechanical in Bradford, said: I joined WaterSafe primarily from a legislation and regulation point of view. I value the access to information it gives members and its news updates are great for keeping me informed of any new industry changes.

Being WaterSafe accredited means homeowners have that trust in me and my work. Its also great getting the online profile listing on WaterSafes website, which homeowners can use for free to search for plumbers in their area at no cost.

WaterSafe brings together all seven approved contractors schemes and the UK water companies, including Bradford-based Yorkshire Water, under one umbrella organisation, with the aim of providing recognition for qualified and competent plumbers through a national register.

Choosing the right pest control provider

    - October 22, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Pest control services have become so common these days. Everyone of us at some point in time has used the services of pest control operators to protect our health and property, yet we know very little about the subject and few are able to make an informed decision about choosing the right pesticides or service providers. Here are a few basic steps that should help you make the right decision:

Ask for the companys professional license; ensure they are registered and approved by the respective emirate municipalities. Only registered and approved companies are legally allowed to provide pest control service.

A relatively safe product can become dangerous in the hands of an untrained PCO! Ensure the operator is trained and licensed. In Dubai, the pest control section tests and licenses individual operators, ask for their valid individual licence.

Ask for Ministry of Environment & Water (MEW) approval, MSDS and label of the pesticide(s) the company intends to use. Just because a chemical is safe or green does not mean its non-toxic.

Do a background check to ensure the companys years of experience and presence in all emirates. Companies with handsome experience, knowledge and versatility can provide safe, effective and timely service.

Check if the company is ISO-certified. ISO certification indicates the company provides quality service.

For a commercial property, make sure a survey is conducted to highlight the pest issues, its source, cause and solutions.

Prevent Your Home from Winter Rodents and Spiders with Gopher Patrols Rodent and Pest Control Package

    - October 22, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Riverside, CA (PRWEB) October 22, 2014

One of the leading pest control companies servicing all of Southern California, Gopher Patrol suggests that the end of fall is the perfect time to protect and prevent homes from incoming rodents looking for a nesting spot. It is almost certainly easier for rodents to get into the home than sometimes thought. The winter can be a tough season to maintain when the rodents have such a strong motivation to sustain themselves in an already established home. A few of the most common and easiest forms of prevention are:

Making sure the yard is neat and tidy; meaning cleaning and trimming those trees, branches, and plants that may be hanging over the home.

As well as maintaining a safe distance of 12 inches at least away from the foundation of the home.

Moving inwards, making sure there are weather strips in place helping aid in protection from not only rodents but pests such as spiders and earwigs looking for a warmer spot to stay for the winter.

If by chance one makes it in, limiting the amount of available food sources for them such as: having all food in sealed containers, pet food put away when not feeding time, etc.

The most effective way is prevention. However, if a few of the pesky creatures have made it in and there are noticeable droppings, Gopher Patrol a licensed and qualified pest control company, is offering a rodent and pest control special for this fall and winter of 2014. Being in the pest control business for over 17 years, they have managed to master the art of approaching each individual situation with extreme care and caution. Experience has made them experts at aiding home owners as well as commercial properties and property management companies with all of their pest control needs, ranging from gophers, rats, and voles to spiders, ants, and roaches.

    Tomato-eating squirrels

    - October 22, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

DEAR JOAN: We've experienced something new this summer in my small patio.

Every year I plant a cherry tomato and have always had success in getting a bumper crop. This year, for the first time, squirrels have been stealing lots of tomatoes as soon as they ripen.

We're wondering if the drought is causing them to seek out moisture in fruits and vegetables when they can't find sufficient water.

Our neighbor two doors down has had the same problem for the first time this year. Have you ever heard of this before?

    Patricia Motta

    Bay Area

DEAR PATRICIA: I think the drought is affecting squirrels, but probably not in the way you think. If you've never had tomato-thieving squirrels before, count yourself lucky. A good friend of mine has to grow all of her tomatoes in webs of chicken wire.

Squirrels love tomatoes, especially the ripe ones that you were just about to pick. Squirrels can be a nuisance in the garden, but they are no more likely to eat them in drought years than in nondrought years.

The squirrels, however, may have come into your neighborhood because of the drought. There are fewer food and water resources for all wildlife, so squirrels living on the edge of suburbia may have picked up their bags and moved in closer to irrigated lawns and backyard gardens.
