    - October 20, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - ??

Here is a list of road projects around the Heartland scheduled for Tuesday, October 21.

    Butler County, MO

Northbound outer road Route 67 will be reduced to one lane while crews make pavement repairs. This section of road is located at County Road 523. Weather permitting, crews will be working on Tuesday, Oct. 21 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Route 72 in Bollinger County will be reduced to one lane as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform shoulders repairs. This section of roadway is located from Old Route 72 to Route B.

Existing lanes of Route 67 from CR 323 to Route 160/158 will be signed as Route C. The north end of Route C (existing Route 67) will remain closed for about two months as work is completed at the intersection of Route 67, Route C, and CR 323.

    Cape Girardeau County, MO

The City of Jackson's annual Asphalt Street and Sidewalk Improvement Program is scheduled to begin at 7 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 16, weather permitting. The schedule includes:

The city says roads that will remain open during construction will be restricted to one-lane traffic between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Others will be closed to all traffic in which case detours will be provided. Signs will be posted notifying motorists of work in these areas, and the public is asked to restrict use to local traffic only.

Starting at 8 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 29, contracted concrete slab repair and replacement will begin on Silver Springs Road between Independence Street and Bloomfield Road in Cape Girardeau. The work will cause lane closures. The expected project completion time is about four weeks.

In Japan, two female ministers quit, dealing a blow to Abe and womenomics

    - October 20, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

TOKYO Two female Japanese cabinet ministers, appointed last month as part of Prime Minister Shinzo Abes plan to let women shine, resigned their posts Monday amid allegations of financial impropriety.

Their departures undermine Abes efforts to lead by example when it comes to promoting working women, and they cast a dark cloud over his administration at a difficult time. The prime ministers Abenomics plan to revive the economy looks to be fizzling out, and he must decide in the next few months whether to press ahead with a hugely unpopular rise in the consumption tax.

I apologize to all citizens for what happened, Abe told reporters outside his office Monday afternoon as Trade and Industry Minister Yuko Obuchi and Justice Minister Midori Matsushima resigned within hours of each other.

Abe swiftly appointed Yoichi Miyazawa, a former official in the powerful Finance Ministry, as the new trade and industry minister. He appointed another woman as justice minister, turning to Yoko Kamikawa, who previously served as minister for gender equality and once worked for Sen. Max Baucus (D-Mont.), who is now ambassador to China.

I hurried on the selection of the replacements, as difficult tasks are piling up and we must proceed with the economy as a top priority, Abe said.

The resignations mark Abes biggest setback since he returned to the premiership almost two years ago.

The fact that Abe was putting so much emphasis on women makes it even harder for him, said Koichi Nakano, a political scientist at Sophia University in Tokyo.

The first minister to fall on Monday was Obuchi, a 40-year-old mother of two young children and daughter of a former prime minister, who was widely touted as potentially Japans first female prime minister. Abe last month promoted her to lead the powerful Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), making her one of five women in the newly reshuffled cabinet.

With Japans labor force aging and shrinking, Abe has presented women, who often stop working once they get married, as critical to hoisting Japan out of its decades of economic stagnation. He has made a policy dubbed womenomics a key part of his strategy to revive Japans economy through structural reforms.

But the shine quickly came off Obuchis star.

Loss could have Florida pondering Muschamp's fate

    - October 20, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

By MARK LONG AP Sports Writer

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) - Florida coach Will Muschamp trudged across the field and into the locker room amid a scattering of boos Saturday night.

There were still a couple "Fire Muschamp" chants in the distance, too.

Those could become reality soon, maybe in the next few days.

Marcus Murphy scored three touchdowns, including two on special teams, and Missouri embarrassed Florida 42-13.

The Tigers (5-2, 2-1 Southeastern Conference) scored on a kickoff return, a punt return, a fumble return and an interception return. They managed just seven first downs and 119 yards, including 20 passing, but won by essentially letting the Gators self-destruct in nearly every way imaginable.

    And they did.

The Gators (3-3, 2-3) turned the ball over six times and lost at home for the second time in eight days, fueling speculation that Muschamp has coached his final game in Gainesville. The "Fire Muschamp" chants broke out in third quarter and could be heard throughout an emptying Florida Field.

"I'm really worried about this football team right now," Muschamp said when asked about his job security. "That's really what I'm worried about. I'm not getting concerned about things I don't have any control over, other than this team. I think that's the most important thing right now."

The Gators have dropped 12 of their last 19 games and trail the division-leading Bulldogs by two games with three remaining.

Local contractors warn homeowners of roofing scams

    - October 20, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

    COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -

The demand for roofing workers created by hailstorms this year has increased the possibility of scam artists taking advantage of homeowners, according to local contractors.

"The guy who knocks on the door and has a ladder in the back of his pickup, and it doesn't say Colorado or Colorado Springs, that's what you have to watch out for," said Jack Caton, a roofing manager.

"Passing a test doesn't make you a roofer. I've heard stories about some awful things. We've actually seen people who offer to get up on a roof, take a look at the roof and show (homeowners) pictures of somebody else's roof that has hail damage."

Jeff Spinato, another roofing manager, said he finished a job that was done improperly by a roofer but the roofer charged the elderly homeowners a 25 percent fee for breaking his contract with them.

"They had no legal obligation to pay that fee but they did anyway -- unknown by me," Spinato said. "On top of what they paid me. They were out $3,000."

Contractors said such scam artists traditionally appear immediately after a hailstorm, but the number of storms this year has created more opportunities for them.

Becky Lewton lives just north of downtown in Colorado Springs, an area that was hard-hit by hail in May. She said she was approached by many people interested in repairing her damaged roof.

"We had a lot of people stop by, knock at the door and just had a clipboard -- not even a truck with a ladder," Lewton said. "And then we had a gentleman who said he was local. But when it came time for him to give an actual price and quote what his warranty was, never heard from him again."

Lewton said she also had a roofer do repair work without her permission, failed to do the work properly, then billed her for it. However, she said she didn't have to pay.
