Pinehurst Country Club Unveils Proposed $4.2M Pool Complex

    - September 27, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Beach Boys music welcomed several hundred Pinehurst Resort & Country Club members to the public unveiling Friday of a proposed $4.2 million pool complex that officials believe will help the club grow and sustain its membership for decades.

We will now have amenities for everyone, said Jay Biggs, senior vice president of golf and club operations for Pinehurst. Weve got a lot of amenities, and they are almost second-to-none in the club world. This is another piece of our plan to focus on the country club part of our business.

The complex will be built on 1.28 acres next to the clubhouse that fronts the 18th green of Pinehurst No. 2. It includes an adult pool and nearby hot tub, a zero-entry family pool with a water slide and splash zones, cabanas, an indoor cafe, an open-air bar, a fire pit and an event lawn.

Members got a preview of the scale and scope of the project because club officials used blue paint to outline the pools, placed tents where the cabanas and buildings will be located, had a grill serving hamburgers and chicken at the cafe site, had a cash bar at the open-air bar space, and placed an inflatable slide in the water slide area.

Lounge chairs surrounded each pool, a lifeguard stand was placed by the adult pool, and chairs encircled the fire pit.

Its always neat when the members can visualize and get excited about it, Biggs said. Were ready to swim.

Karson Van Scoyoc, 10, and his younger brothers, Kenan and Kolton, got in the spirit by repeatedly going down the inflatable slide.

This is going to be awesome, Karson said. The water slide sounds super cool, and the pool is really big.

His grandmother, Karen Mamuzic, said she is looking forward to bringing the boys to the pool.

Its phenomenal, Mamuzic said. The boys are very excited.

Going Short on Brent Futures Needs No Excuse

    - September 27, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

The global geopolitical landscape couldnt be more complicated than it already is. There is a war in the Middle East engulfing Iraq. An international US-led coalition including Qatar, UAE and Saudi Arabia is hammering Islamic State, a terrorist outfit with wider ambitions of establishing a regional caliphate.

Meanwhile, Libyan oil production continues to stutter. Nigeria and other West African oil and gas prospection zones hit by the Ebola virus have their own catalog of troubles. The UK was until last week in danger of breaking-up had the Scots not voted against it. Several upstream and downstream facilities in wider Europe are undergoing seasonal maintenance. Yet the Brent front month futures contract for November delivery, a common proxy for oil prices on the world market, keeps slipping lower, trading below $97 per barrel at the time of writing this article.

And further it should slip, as supply-side analysts have been saying for better parts of 12 months. It was inherently frustrating to see rebuttals over the period from paper traders using the risk premium as a pretext and trumping supply-demand realities in the process. Some even confidently predicted that at least $10 worth of risk froth per barrel was something the market should get used to.

English: Oil Rig, Cromarty, Scotland (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

So, why is it dissipating now with a tacit acknowledgement in most trading circles that shorting Brent is the right call for the moment? First and foremost, Brent is currently suffering from risk fatigue. As Price Futures analyst Phil Flynn concurred with me last year, there was always an inherent danger of the market repeatedly recording the risk and simply pricing in that level by default should there be no reduction in tension. That has pretty much been the case since the initial Iranian Nuclear standoff and onset of the Libyan Civil War in 2012. Simply put, risk no longer weighs as heavy as it used to.

Secondly, there is clear evidence that not only is the US consuming less crude oil, but it is also importing less on the back rising domestic oil production. The country is unlikely to export oil over the medium term. However, by importing less, the US has created incremental barrels in the global supply pool. Exporters, especially West African ones, are diverting crude oil cargoes destined for the US to Asia, something which OPEC has also acknowledged.

Thirdly, OECD demand has been tepid while of late Chinas demand has been as erratic as its macroeconomic data. All of this has tilted the balance in favor of buyers as hedge funds found out over the summer.

Using the often abused only way is long logic, back in June many hedge fund managers totally ignored the wider dynamic to collectively hold just short of 600 million paper barrels on their books. They were banking on backwardation when the Brent price was well into three figures.

However, intelligent buying by physical traders eyeing cargoes without firm buyers made contango set in. That left hedge funds with massive losses as the benchmark first slipped and then got stuck below $100. It felt great that real traders taught speculators a simple lesson you can only ignore the physical market up to a certain point. The lesson was duly learnt as net long positions for the Brent contract have been in general retreat since, according the ICE data.

In January, I forecast a Brent price range of US$90 to 105 for 2014 and will be sticking to an upper median of the said range. However, a floor of $95 or a dollar or two lower is very plausible at the moment and reflective of market reality. So theres no excuse for not going short over the short-term. Yet, the current state of affairs wont last into the winter.

Turnbulls son ordered not to clear

    - September 27, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

    Sept. 27, 2014, 4 a.m.

A CROPPA Creek farmer, whose family is at the centre of land-clearing disputes with authorities, has been ordered by a court not to disturb parts of his property following claims of unlawful damage to native vegetation.

A CROPPA Creek farmer, whose family is at the centre of land-clearing disputes with authorities, has been ordered by a court not to disturb parts of his property following claims of unlawful damage to native vegetation.

Grant Wesley Turnbull, the son of accused murderer Ian Robert Turnbull, was ordered by the Land and Environment Courts Justice Rachel Pepper yesterday not to disturb certain areas of Colorado, his family farm north of Moree.

Until further order, Mr Grant Turnbull is restrained from clearing, or causing, or permitting the clearing, of native vegetation on the land, Justice Pepper outlined in her judgment, confirmed yesterday in Sydney.

The interlocutory order was brought about by the Office of Environment and Heritage (OEH) following several investigations into allegations of unlawful clearings.

The OEH instigated the court challenge in Sydney on September 19 to prevent any further clearing on the Croppa Creek property while a remediation order is in place.

A temporary interlocutory order was imposed but the court heard Mr Turnbull this week opposed a further interlocutory order on five points including that the grounds sought for the relief order were too wide.

But Justice Pepper said the rehabilitation of any land that has been illegally cleared is a fundamental matter of public importance.

In my view, these proceedings have plainly been brought by OEH acting in the public interest, she found.

Udupi, Sep 27: Raghupati Bhat, former MLA of Udupi constituency, organized a press meet on Friday September 26 at the BJP office in Kadiyali.

Addressing the media, he objected to the process of clearing the land of farmers who are residing on Kumki land or on illicit land.

He added that already a draft notification has been issued in this regard. Bhat explained that Kumki land was government land adjoining the agricultural fields in which farmers were allowed to take up activities supporting agriculture.

He further added that the revenue department must stop issuing notifications to people who are living on illegal land.

Bhat further added that the revenue department must analyze the applications of eligible persons according to the various forms.

He demanded regularizing of the food supply which has occurred due to cancellation of ration cards. Nearly 13,000 ration cards were rejected in the district. People are fed up by the confusion about the Adhaar card, so this needs to be clear, added Bhat.

Your Home In Their Hands (BBC1): TV Review

    - September 27, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

HOST: Celia Sawyer on Your Home In Their Hands.

YOUR HOME IN THEIR HANDS BBC1

"WOULD you," asks interior designer Celia Sawyer, "hand over your keys to complete strangers in exchange for a makeover?" No need Celia. We've got kids. Every wall comes with an individual hand mark.

Your Home In Their Hands sees desperate householders allow ambitious amateurs to redesign their homes. "Will it be tears of joy," asks Celia, "or just plain tears?" Depends how badly you want a day-glo orange toilet.

First up were Kelly and Andy, whose own tastes varied so much they'd compromised by allowing one another a wall in each room. okay, so long as one of you isn't into Glee and the other Hammer Horror.

They'd been given Kirsty, a fashion designer from Canada. "My style," she revealed, "is a maximalist, opulent, psychedelic fairyland." Or a migraine as it's otherwise known.

"It's a walk on the wild side," she added. I'd suggest she redesigns the lion enclosure at Longleat while they're still in there.

Kirsty was charged with transforming Kelly and Andy's bedroom. She came up with a red ceiling, leopard print carpet, and pink flowery walls. Someone should have told her it was for a middle-aged couple from the Home Counties, not Dorian from Birds Of A Feather.

"Now this," sighed Celia, "is what I call a mess. We've got purple, we've got red, we've got black, we've got blue, we've got leopard skin." That reminds me, when is the sale at DFS?

"I always think interior design should be like getting your clothes out the wardrobe," Celia noted. "You put them on and you have an outfit and it kind of goes together." Kirsty's template appeared to be Rod Stewart's stage gear circa 1978.
