Handyman favorite Home Depot, which recently suffered one of the worst consumer data leaks in history, just learned a lesson the hard way: Always run background checks on your security team. Amid a massive investigation into the companys information security practices, it turns out their former senior architect of IT security was fired from his last job for sabotaging his employers network--and is now serving federal prison time.
According to Ars Technica, Ricky Joe Mitchell, who was hired by Home Depot in 2012 and promoted to the senior architect role in 2013, took his ex-employer EnerVest Operatings systems offline for a month when he found out he was being fired. The damage--caused by remotely resetting the companys servers to factory settings--is believed to have cost as much as $1 million in lost business. Its important to note that Mitchell has not been tied to the Home Depot hack in any way by authorities.
Information assurance employees at Home Depot told the New York Times that when they requested extra training and resources to keep customer and employee data safe, managers always gave the same response: We sell hammers.

CSafe announced recently that it has subcontracted maintenance and repair services for their CSafe RKN at both the Seattle and Dulles International Airports. This notice follows their June announcement of the opening of their CSafe managed service center in San Francisco. The new repair centers at SEA and IAD will service CSafes active systems and they anticipate that the growth of these centers will be similar to that of their SFO center.
Rick Rackley, CSafes Director of Service Centers and Support, explains: The Dulles and Seattle service centers will allow CSafe to support our growing biopharmaceutical customers in transporting high volumes of temperature-sensitive shipments through both locations. Since opening our SFO service center, weve seen a significant increase in business from regional biopharma companies necessitating the addition of another technician to our staff to support the business growth.
Biopharmaceuticals are a growing sector in Washington State. Earlier this month, the Washington Biotechnology & Biomedical Association (WBBA), the states life science trade association, reported that more than 50 Washington state life science transactions this year-to-date have surpassed $1B. Washington, D.C. also has a vibrant biopharma sector. The Washington, D.C. and Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority reported that in 2012, carriers at Dulles International and Reagan National handled approximately $8.4B in air freight destined for both domestic and foreign markets.
CSafe President and CEO, Brian Kohr, concludes: As part of our continuing commitment to deliver value, effective and quality temperature-sensitive shipping solutions to our customers and partners, we opened the SEA and IAD service centers to support their increasing business. We are proud of CSafes unprecedented growth and the expansion of our RKN fleet by 45% in the past twelve months.
About CSafe Global CSafe Global is the worlds largest producer of actively controlled mobile refrigeration units for biopharmaceutical companies, healthcare organizations, global military organizations and international disaster relief agencies. The company manufacturers AcuTemp brand passive packaging and hand-held mobile carriers, the CSafe brand of active containers, and is the exclusive manufacturer and provider of ThermoCor vacuum insulation. CABOT, AR -- "How do you let someone with a murder conviction be a trustee in the first place, " said Cabot Superintendent Dr. Tony Thurman.
Dr. Tony Thurman has had a change of heart when it comes to ordering services from the Arkansas Correctional Industries (ACI).
"Very disappointed," said Thurman.
Last Monday, padded mats were installed at the Cabot Junior High gymnasium. The "handy man" behind the work was convicted killer Glen Green.
"I was as outraged as anyone else," Thurman said.
In 1974 Green raped and killed an 18-year-old girl and received a life sentence. In 1990, Green became a trustee and since then has been working for the ACI providing furniture, products, and other services to businesses and organizations.
"I think it puts all of our kids in jeopardy," said a concerned parent.
This parent who asked not to be identified says even with ACI's strict policy against sexual offenders working on school campuses, allowing a murderer on school grounds is not okay.
"When our kids come to school. I want them to be safe."
Thurman says this morning (Monday) the ACI informed him that they changed the 30-year-old policy and are now barring any convicted killers from working in schools.

MANGHAM, La. - Press Release Cattle producers drove as far as 100 miles to get the latest research-based information that included pharmaceutical best management practices, buying and retaining replacement heifers and pasture weed control at the second annual northeast Louisiana beef and forage field day at the Goldmine Plantation.
LSU AgCenter agent Keith Collins from Richland Parish, who helped coordinate the event, said the county agents job is to get the information to the people who need it, and the field day is a great way to do that.
Goldmine Plantation is just a great place to have a beef cattle field day, Collins said. Ive worked with them for a long time, so they let us do things that give producers practical, hands-on experience.
The attendees heard about factors influencing calving difficulties from Rayville veterinarian Lyle Bennett.
The breed of the bull and the breed of the cow are two of the top issues involved, he said. Calving time is another issue he discussed, maintaining that late fall is the best time to calve in Louisiana.
LSU AgCenter forage specialist Wink Alison opened the program with a talk on the impact of ryegrass planting methods on production.
Tillage can have the most impact, Alison said. You can plant ryegrass from straight onto a pasture through having a totally prepared seedbed. For early season production, the prepared seedbed is better.
Alison also discussed the importance of a heavier seeding rate early in the fall for better early production.
LSU AgCenter beef specialist Karl Harborth discussed the importance of proper bull selection to improve herds.
Weve found through research that it is typically best to breed a non-Brahman bull on Brahman cows, Harborth said. This normally gives the best chance for calving ease and lower birth weights.

9 feng shui tips for good vibes on your work desk
Some 3,000 years ago in China, a system was developed to balance or harmonize the energies of any given space. Feng shui, which combines the Chinese words for wind and water two elements that are believed to ensure good health.
Feng shuis traditional use is to orient buildings, homes or even spiritually significant constructions like tombs to maximize auspiciousness while minimizing bad luck. A feng shui expert often determines ideal positions by referring to local topographic features of a location.
But did you know that feng shui could also be done for small spaces, and even a specific area like your work desk? Innovative global brand 3M combines science with feng shui to bring positive energy to the space where you make decisions, study business deals, and communicate with people.
Feng shui expert Karen Rauch Carter insists: If your desk is not optimally serving you, it could be robbing you of vital energy. 3M suggests mentally dividing the top of your desk into nine equal squares for every part of your life. This approach will allow energy to be directed into each aspect. Imagine a tic-tac-toe board for each area and table all the good vibes you can:
Career move. Reserve the center front square or the space right in front of you. The ruling element here is water and the ruling color is black. If you have a glass top, slip a picture of a river or a bubbling brook under it to signify that you are in the flow of life. You do not need to have the photo always in sight. If your desk does not have a glass top, tape the photo underneath your desk.
Add-on wisdom. Place books or items that remind you of knowledge or intelligent people on the bottom, left-hand square. Have something blue on this spot. Itll help you concentrate and make sound decisions. It can be any item, such as a blue Post-it note pad or paperweight.
Happy family. On the center left-hand side of your desk, place photos in a frame made of wood the element for this area. If you do not have space for it, hang photos on the wall nearest this square. To make sure your walls are damage-free, 3M has Command picture hanging strips that eliminates the need to drill holes. Green is the ruling color for this area.
Prosperity in the city. On the left-hand rear square, place expensive or expensive-looking items, such as your computer. Looking at this area should give you a vibe of wealth and riches, and make you feel lucky or blessed.
