GAF WeatherSide is a popular asbestos siding replacement choice.
Options were very limited in the past by siding makers such as GAF and James Hardie now make a wide range of new shingle siding that matches the wavy and scalloped profiles of many older asbestos siding shingles.
If your older siding is largely in good condition, you may now have the option of keeping it in place and replacing broken and cracked pieces potentially saving thousands of dollars.
Youll need to first decide what your goal is, as far as whether you want to remove all older siding and completely replace it or to instead selectively replace individual siding shingles.
Replacing all your asbestos siding will involve a much larger and costlier asbestos abatement effort, unless you opt to remove it yourself.
Laws and regulations vary by state as far as asbestos disposal requirements, so be sure to check to see what the process if for disposing of any asbestos siding that is replaced.
If you plan to replace your older siding with vinyl siding, encapsulating the asbestos siding and installing new vinyl siding on top of it is also a viable option.
Asbestos siding replacement costs can vary widely.
If individual siding pieces are being replaced, costs are easier to estimate. GAF WeatherSide fiber cement siding typically sells for about $150/bundle online, with a bundle covering about 33 square feet.
Asbestos siding replacement pieces from James Hardie and other manufacturers are similarly priced, and some online retailers offer free shipping or free pickup at local stores.

Do you needa new air conditioner installed?
Champion AC provides the best air conditioning installations in San Antonio and the surrounding areas. Our experts treat every home and homeowner with custom care. Our technicians willgather detailed information about your house (insulation, windows, square footage, etc.) and determine the optimum air conditioning equipment for your home. In the past, many contractors would installair conditioners that were oversized thinking it would cool a home down faster. From an engineering standpoint, this is a truly bad idea because, not only will the system be more inefficient, it wont be able to heat and cool the home to a comfortable or desired temperature.
When purchasing a new central HVAC system there are a few details that you really want to watch out for. Currently, there are more rebates than ever for upgrading central AC systems, but the system must qualify with the proper SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio) rating. Our comfort advisors and technicians will be able to show you exactly which HVAC systems qualify for rebates and set the custom design for your home. While the brand can alter the price significantly, warranties speak volumes in the HVAC industry.
A properly sized HVAC system is essential to lowering utility bills and reducing indoor humidity. Todays high-efficiency AC systems also have higher SEER ratings and variable speed motors, which require much less energy to run. SEER ratings are an important factor to consider when deciding which air conditioner to install because heating and air conditioning accounts for approximately 60 percent of a typical utility bill. When they are looking for a new HVAC system, Arizona residents tend to debate between purchasing a Trane or Bryant system to keep their homes comfortable. But which one offers consumers the best bang for their HVAC buck? The best way to answer the old question of Trane vs. Bryant is to compare what both brands strive to achieve and how reliable each one has been for decades. Here are a few important criteria that any home owner should consider when deciding between a new Trane system and a Bryant system.
First Both Brands are designed with Quality in Mind
Unlike many of their competitors, one similar feature that both Trane and Bryant HVAC systems have in common is quality. And this begins in the design of each system. Trane has been a leading provider of AC and heating systems for decades and a primary reason for this is the extended research and development theyve completed in building all of their systems. The Noida college where a spy cam was discovered in a girls washroom on Thursday started strengthening security on Friday, with officials scanning hostel rooms for surveillance devices.
JSS Academy of Technical Education has set up two committees one to probe the incident and the other to suggest improved security measures. The second committee will comprise students, parents, faculty members and one police officer, said college principal T.N. Nagabhushan.
Students of the Sector-62 college held a protest demanding action against the guilty.
A small hidden camera was found by a student inside a girls hostel washroom on Thursday morning. According to the Noida Police, the student spotted a red light blinking near a wash basin and spotted the camera. They took it out and discovered that the camera was a recording device and was unable to transmit data. Before handing it over to the police, the students also destroyed the chip inside it.
The police are questioning four suspects in connection with the incident. One of the suspects is a plumber who visited the hostel recently to carry out some repair work. Another suspect had visited the premises to install a water heater. A security guard posted outside the hostel is also being questioned by the police.
Dr. Nagabhushan said the college was returning to normal on Friday. Students have gone back to classes including the girl who discovered the camera. We want to focus on education and hope the police make sure that the guilty are caught, said the college principal.
The hostel warden has also been changed and if the committee finds any laxity on her part, there will be action against her, said Dr. Nagabhushan.
He added that the college will be installing CCTV cameras in the hostel lobby. Currently, security cameras are only installed at the college main gate. Men entering the girls hostel will be frisked and workers, like the plumber, will be accompanied by a hostel superintendent, said the principal.
This unsavoury incident has opened everyones eyes. Through the committee and the meetings with the students, we will hear from all on how to strengthen security measures, Dr. Nagabhushan said.
Meanwhile, about a dozen workers of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad protested outside the college on Friday and demanded action against those involved.

Speaking of the high cost of living in Manhattan, the Census Bureaus American Community Survey finds that the top 5 percent of households earned $864,394, or 88 times as much as the poorest 20 percent in NYC last year. The median income is up to $52,223 from $52,640, though still lower than the $55,307 from 2008. Non-Hispanic Whites have the highest median income at $75,145 and Hispanics have the lowest with $36,196.About 1.7 million New Yorkers live below the poverty line.
According toThe New York Times, the disparity is caused by the resurgence of the financial industry, with hedge funds and investment banks surging in the recovery after dipping low during the worst of the Great Recession.
At least we have a small decline in the poverty level, which was 14.5 percent in 2013, down from 15 percent. Still, those living at or below the poverty line is 45 million. For Hispanics nationwide, themedian income has gone up 3.5 percent in the last year.
A disproportionate number of African Americans nationwide live in poverty, however. There are so many in the Black population mired in poverty that getting out is incredibly difficult. And a third of all the poor are children. That increase in the median income for Hispanics has a big impact on the number of children in poverty as four in 10 are of Hispanic origin.
Nationwide, the media income is just under $52,000, about where it was in 2012 and eight percent lower than it was in 2008. The median income for women is $39,000 versus $50,000 for men. So women on average are making 78 percent of what men are.
Long story short, there are various kinds of income inequality in this country. And its time we try to tackle all of them.

Developers broke ground a few days ago at 16th and N Streets for the new Eviva Midtown apartment building. But in reality, most of the complex will be built miles away in a former aircraft hangar.
The six-story project formerly called The Warren will be constructed piece by piece out of prefabricated housing units assembled by Zeta Communities at McClellan Park in North Highlands. The modular units will be trucked to the building site, where a crane will lift and stack them atop a concrete podium.
The individual units will roll off the assembly line at the Zeta plant complete with bathrooms, kitchens and flooring. They will be bolted together, connected to utilities and covered with a roof and external skin to create five stories of apartments above street-level shops and underground parking.
Theres tremendous time saved because were working on what will go on top of the foundation while (the general contractor is) doing site work and utilities, said Dennis Gleason, project manager at Zeta. By the time they finish the foundation, we have units stored here that are ready to be shipped to the site and put in place.
Its the first time the method has been used in the capital, though several structures in Davis, San Francisco and Silicon Valley have been assembled from Zetas prefab units.
The midtown structure is also a first for Atlanta-based developer The Integral Group, which intends to build more Eviva-brand apartments in San Francisco, Denver and Atlanta. The Sacramento building is a prototype of sleek inner-city apartment buildings that will replace urban eyesores.
The word Eviva is literally the center of the word revival, Chris Martorella, president of Integrals investment management division, told an audience at Thursdays groundbreaking ceremony. He called the projects modular construction the future of efficient building techniques, although he said it wont be used in the other Eviva projects.
When completed in late 2015, Eviva Midtown will feature 118 high-end rental units, a yoga studio and a movie-screening lawn, among other amenities, Martorella said. Plans for the ground floor include more than 5,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space.
Rents will range from $1,600 a month for a one-bedroom apartment to $2,150 for a two-bedroom unit, and premium corner units will rent for more, said Marc de la Vergne, deputy executive director of the Capital Area Development Authority, the city-state agency that initiated the project.
They (Integral) view Sacramento as a great place to launch the Eviva line of apartments, de la Vergne said.
