The RSPCA are investigating after a kitten was reportedly hurled from a van window then driven over.
An eyewitness alerted the charity of the horrific incident which left the little animal dead in Oldham, on Thursday morning, September 18.
The passer-by said a man threw a young cat from a blue transit van on Blackshaw Lane in Royton, then crushed it under the vehicle.
Oldham Council sent a street cleaning team to recover the animal and keep it in storage until its owner could be found.
A spokesman for the animal charity said: The RSPCA has been contacted by a member of the public who said they saw a man throw a kitten from a blue transit van and run over it on Thursday, September 18. The incident happened on a country lane called Blackshaw Lane in Royton, Oldham, at approximately 9am.
An officer attended the scene that afternoon but the kitten wasnt found.
A spokesman for Oldham Council confirmed that they received a call at 1.30pm on Thursday reporting a cat had been run over.
A town hall street cleaning team was sent to Blackshaw Lane and recovered a dead animal before the RSPCA arrived.
Shortly after the incident, an eyewitness account was posted on the I Love Shaw Facebook page.
It read: Walking home from dropping my child off at school on blackshaw lane on the corner of Cornish way in Royton at approx 9am this morning a blue van with a sick twisted person threw a small young cat out of the window and then run it over with the back wheels, it shortly died afterwards after running towards me and my friend on the path, my friend comforted it and stroked it until it passed.

Every few minutes, while Paul Mackay was back in the pantry of Seattles old Aero Club putting together Caesar salad trays and shrimp cocktails, the swinging door to the dining room would fly open and it would all hit.
The tinkling piano and the oozing saxophone. The skeins of laughter and the clinking glasses. Corks popping. Cutlery clattering. Waitresses in gold lam whooshing past.
It was all out there, Mackay recalled the other day. All the excitement was out in the dining room.
That was 1957, when he was just a 16. Mackay would go on to work at pancake houses, fish for king crab in Alaska and even teach flying but he could never forget what he remembered as the romance of fine dining.
Forty years later, The Silver Fox who has seen the Seattle dining scene explode and change and at least at his beloved El Gaucho steak house stay the very same, is grabbing his last pack of toothpicks and retiring.
I used to come in at 10 a.m. and stay through dinner, he said in a private dining room at the place he calls The Gaucho. He didnt mind. He loved it, in fact. The feel of the place, the people.
But then, My hearing started getting bad and my sight was not good, he said. I didnt feel comfortable in a dark restaurant, working.
Its a wonder that he lasted this long. At 73, Mackay is a bit of an ironman. Not only has he worked in the restaurant business his whole life, but he has opened and managed El Gaucho, 13 Coins, Lafittes, Elliotts Oyster House, The Metropolitan Grill and Yarrow Bay Grill & Beach Cafe. In 1995, he partnered with Chef Christine Keff to open Flying Fish.
Along the way, he collected tips, paychecks and a philosophy of how to do things.

Annika Jimenez Gwen Minor of Redwood City began sitting in an oak tree Friday to protest the city cutting it down. The city said the tree was diseased and need to be taken down.
A woman took up residence in an oak tree in Redwood City Friday to protest it being cut down, saving the tree at least for now.
Redwood City teacher Gwen Minor began sitting in a large tree on the corner of Alameda de las Pulgas and Goodwin Avenue in the Woodside Plaza neighborhood 5 a.m. Friday. The city has monitored the tree for some time and it is dying because it is suffering from an advanced Armillaria infection, which has caused failure at the root crown and the root plate, and destruction of the buttress roots along the trunks entire circumference, said city spokesman Malcolm Smith.
Given the concerns about the planned removal expressed by at least one neighbor, the city will not proceed with the work at this time, while it further communicates with the resident and other neighbors to ensure there is a full understanding of the need for removal and replacement of this tree, Smith said.
Our consulting arborist deems the entire tree at overall extreme risk of imminent failure meaning large branches or sections of trunk (or the entire tree) could break apart and fall, Smith wrote in an email. Cars and pedestrians in the area are at risk when this kind of tree failure occurs. The city has spent several years trying to maintain the tree and to find ways to not only keep it, but to keep it viable. However, its abundantly clear from the arborists report that the tree is not structurally sound and is in danger of falling over or breaking apart. Because of its size and proximity to the street and to pedestrians, this tree poses a public safety hazard that we do not believe can reasonably be solved, short of removal.
Minor sees saving the tree as vital, however, and is hoping if the city cant save it, it can at least open a dialogue to replant native oaks to replace ones that are dying.
Its a 200-year-old oak and it needs to stay up, she said while sitting in the tree. Its a treasure of the community and we cant afford to lose it. I am tree sitting today. I love this oak tree. Everybody loves this tree and theyre so important to the community.
She noted its amazing how everyone has a personal connection to the tree. She brought lunch, water and sunglasses for the occasion.
Theres ways to keep it up by girding it up with steel girders or beams or by pruning the long branches back, she said. Or put a structure around it to let it die naturally.
Still, Smith said the city is very proud and protective of the urban forest its been able to maintain throughout the community. Unfortunately, he said, in some cases a tree becomes diseased or damaged to the point where it becomes a safety hazard, and the only prudent and viable option is removal and replacement.

THERE are many accepted dangers of the harsh Australian environment and the native eucalyptus tree is one.
As a resident of Albion Park Rail had discovered, eucalyptus trees were given the nickname Widow Maker for dropping their large boughs without warning. This process of self-pruning is a natural practicefor the tree to save water or a result of brittle wood.
On an otherwise calm Saturday afternoon recently, resident Lynette Cave came home to discover a branch about 4mlong had fallen into her backyard.

Just moments before it came down the neighbour's four-year-old was playing right underneath the tree, she said.
Its very concerning because you just never know when it will happen.
The tree is located in a neighbouring private property and hangs over the backyards of four residential blocks, two being unit blocks. Ms Cave said she had contacted the council several times expressing her safety concerns for those living underneath the tree.
