SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO -- A South San Francisco plumber was arrested on suspicion of murder after he allegedly bludgeoned another man to death at a gym Wednesday, police said.
Kenneth Osako, 46, is being held without bail in the San Mateo County Jail after he was arrested by South San Francisco officers and a special agent with the Department of Homeland Security Thursday morning, police said.
Around 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday, officers responded to a gym in the 100 block of El Camino Real for reports of an assault. When police arrived, they were told a gym member had been brutally attacked with a solid steel bar -- "normally used to lift weights," police said -- by another gym member, identified as Osako, police said.
The victim, who has not been identified, was rushed to San Francisco General Hospital, where he died from his injuries Thursday morning, according to police.
Police did not say where Osako was found Thursday morning, nor did they say why the Department of Homeland Security was involved in his arrest.

A Bay Area area plumber was arrested Thursday after he allegedly bludgeoned a man to death with a steel barbell at a Bally Total Fitness gym, police said.
Kenneth Osako, a member of the gym at 180 El Camino Real in South San Francisco, attacked the man Wednesday night using a "solid steel bar, normally used to lift weights," striking him several times in the head, police said in a statement.
Osako then allegedly dropped the bar and fled.
The victim, whose name has not been released, died the next day at San Francisco General Hospital.
Osako, 46, was arrested Thursday morning by South San Francisco police and a special agent from the Department of Homeland Security. He was being held in San Mateo County Jail without bail in connection with the death.
Osako and the victim were longtime members of the gym, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.
A man who works the gym's front desk told the Chronicle that a maintenance worker had seen the victim talking to a woman shortly before he was attacked.
"I think [Osako] saw the other guy talking to her, flirting with her, and I think he got really angry, came up from behind and hit him in the head with a bar we use for tricep dips," Felipe Mendes told the paper.
Osako was known by workers in the gym to get "jealous a lot," Mendes added.

A DISABLED man ended up paying out of his own pocket to remove rats from his home.
The Batchley resident, who is paraplegic and did not want to be named, contacted Worcestershire Regulatory Services after the animals were heard and seen running around during the night.
Two contractors from Cannon Pest Control came out to fix two holes in his home but the problem continued, with the rats even damaging his freshly-decorated hall walls.
His mother told the Standard after numerous attempts to find out when the company could come back to sort out the issue, her son had to resort to paying 150 himself to another business to get rid of them.
I have spoken to various people as I just want some acknowledgement of the problem and for him to be reimbursed.
It is disgraceful for them to leave a young man on his own. The rats had messed on all of the carpets and his dog has also been poorly, which we believe could be linked.
He could hear them running around in the night and he was very upset about it.
A Worcestershire Regulatory Services spokeswoman said: The contractor has admitted to falling short in the level of service required and is currently discussing the level of refund to be paid to the clients.
We are working with both parties to resolve the issue and gain a satisfactory outcome for the family.
A Cannon Pest Control spokeswoman added: We do understand how distressing and disruptive a pest problem can be. In pest control however, there is no one-size-fits-all solution and Cannon Pest Control does aim to provide the highest standards of pest control prevention and treatment.
