Pizza chain Eagle Boys cut its media spend in half for its latest digital campaign, yet saw improved results after adopting a more targeted approach, according to its retail general manager.
Nick Vincent said the company learned a lot from its first Mad Minutes campaign which offered cut price pizzas during a limited time each day for two weeks and drastically reduced its media spending in the second wave of the digital push.
The savings came after Eagle Boys scrutinised where its online traffic was coming from and directed its budget to those areas.
The first Mad Minutes campaign was a test and we did quite a hefty digital advertising campaign. But we learned a lot and in the second push we became more efficient in our media buy, Vincent said. We became more targeted and as a result spent half what we did in the first campaign and achieved better results.
He declined to reveal the cost of its media.
The fast food chain said visits to its website climbed more than 50 per cent during the fortnight with almost four in 10 of those first time customers.
A third digital push will run next month with social at its core. Vincent declined to reveal further details but said it would not be another Mad Minutes campaign although he confirmed that will return in the future.
While Eagle Boys will still use traditional channels in its marketing mix, including bits and pieces of TV, Vincent said it was increasingly turning to digital advertising.
Around one third of its marketing budget is now directed online, double that of three years ago, he said.

One of Purdues newest additions to campus will be dedicated on Friday.
The nations demand for more engineering is being met with the new Seng-Liang Wang Hall. The building is based on an innovative public/private partnership.
Purdue and the Purdue Research Foundation will dedicate the new $38.9 million hall. The four-story, 147,000-square-foot building is located on Northwestern Avenue across from the Purdue Mall and next to the Northwestern parking garage.
The Purdue Research Foundation is leasing space to the University and private businesses within the building, a cost-effective partnership.
This public/private mix is a first for Purdue and it proved a great success, President Mitch Daniels said. Purdue Research Foundations approach saved millions on construction and created a revenue stream to support Wang Hall. It is a formula that we plan to use again for other new construction on Purdues campus.
None of this would have been possible, however, without the dedication and financial support of our Purdue alumni. We especially thank Patrick Wang and his wife, Lucy, for their gift of $5 million to name the building in honor of his father, Seng-Liang Wang.

Transformation of Porirua City Centre Begins
A green carpet of astro-turf is to be rolled out under the canopies in the first stage of a city centre makeover.
It will set the scene for a makeover day on October 4 that will see community volunteers create a new area where shoppers and workers can gather and relax. The work will include the installation of three funky seats, colourful tables, chairs and beanbags and a portable stage in the space between the I-site and the carpark.
Im thrilled to see this transformation beginning. Its all about making our city centre more appealing and vibrant, and encouraging people to stay and relax, says Porirua Deputy Mayor Ana Coffey.
This is the beginning of a gradual change that we believe will alter the way people use this area. We are encouraging businesses to be involved by putting out chairs and tables where appropriate and Council will be working to make it easy for them to get approval.
Cr Coffey is a member of the community volunteer makeover team that was formed
following the Reclaim the Canopies placemaking workshop lead by international urbanist David Engwicht in May this year.
In the first stage of work, the 300sqm of turf will be laid over several days from Monday, September 29 and during that time the area will be fenced.
On October 4, the community makeover team will move in to install three large wooden seats with two sides that will allow people to lounge on one side or sit upright on the other. A portable stage will be set up on the edge of the astro turf (near the alleyway to Ferry Place).
It can be used for a variety of events or simply serve as another seating area when not in use.

As part of the Obama Administrations efforts to reduce energy waste in U.S. buildings and help save Americans money by saving energy, the Energy Department today announced the winners of the sixth annual Next Generation LuminairesTM (NGL) design competition for indoor lighting at the LED Show in Los Angeles.
The competition, sponsored by the Energy Department, the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America and the International Association of Lighting Designers, was launched in 2008 to promote excellence in the design of energy-efficient light-emitting diode (LED) commercial lighting fixtures or luminaires. Solid-state lighting technologies, which include both LED and organic light emitting diode technologies, have the potential to save Americans $30 billion a year in energy costs by 2030.
A panel of 10 judges from the architectural lighting design community evaluated more than 150 indoor lighting entries based on color, illuminance, glare control, light distribution, serviceability, value, appearance, lumen maintenance and luminous efficacy.
Fifty-seven products were recognized as meeting the rigorous requirements of the competition. These winning products represented a wide-range of manufacturers and lighting applications, including accent lighting, decorative lighting, cove lighting, industrial lighting, wall washing and personal task lighting.
Four manufacturers, covering four different indoor lighting types, were designated as Best in Class:
The Energy Departments Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) works with private industry, universities and national laboratories to accelerate the development and facilitate deployment of energy efficiency and renewable energy technologies and market-based solutions that strengthen U.S. energy security, environmental quality, and economic vitality. For more on the winning entries, visit the Next Generation Luminaires website. To learn more about the wide-range of market introduction activities, including technology demonstrations, commercial product testing, buy/user guidance and standards development, visit EERE's Solid-State Lighting website.

Kenall Lighting, a leading provider of commercial lighting solutions for over 50 years, has been recognized as a winner in the Next Generation Luminaires (NGL) Indoor Design Competition for its Millenium OS (MOS) LED stairwell luminaire.
The NGL judges selected the MOS for its robust design and light distribution and noted that it was suited for high light output applications. Kenalls Millenium OS LED luminaire provides greater energy savings, optimized optics and the industrys best 10-year warranty. The MOS is an LED lighting product with an integrated microwave occupancy sensor for user-defined dimming to 10 percent for greater energy savings. Optimized for stairwells, MOS is also flexible enough for other applications, including outdoor use due to its IP65 rating and Wet Location listing.
We are honored to receive this prestigious NGL award for our Millenium OS, said Jim Hawkins, CEO of Kenall Lighting. When NGL judges a diverse panel of experts who design, specify, evaluate and research indoor commercial SSL luminaires complete an extensive in-situ evaluation and consider a product to be worthy of specification, thats a pretty big deal.
The selection process included 10 judges, and out of 266 products that were submitted to the 2014 NGL indoor competition, only 153 made it to the judging phase with market-ready samples and complete documentation. The documentation which includes luminaire and component specification sheets, LM-79 test reports, lumen maintenance projections, warranty statements, and marketing materials ensures actual performance matches what was claimed. The number of entries was the largest in the NGLs six-year history, representing an increase of over 50% compared to 2013.
Any product that earns the recognition of the NGL judges has to be pretty special, said DOE Solid-State Lighting Program Manager Jim Brodrick. Theyre a tough audience impossible to fool and hard to please.
The prestigious competition, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), the Illuminating Engineering Society (IES) and the International Association of Lighting Designers, was launched in 2008 to promote excellence in the design of energy-efficient LED luminaires for general illumination in commercial lighting applications. The winning entries were announced at the 2014 Strategies in Light Conference, the world's largest educational and networking platform for the LED and lighting industry.
