CALDWELL, Texas - Caldwell Elementary School students are finally back in their regular classrooms after mold was discovered in March.
The school district gave the green light after a remediation company cleaned up the mold and construction crews gave the school a makeover.
The school year started three weeks ago, but Tuesday was the first day for Caldwell Elementary students to attend class in their regular building.
In March, students, teachers, and staff had to relocate to four churches after non-toxic mold was found in the floors and foundation, causing some to get sick.
It was the result of water collecting underneath the foundation.
"We're back to basically a brand new building," said Caldwell ISD Superintendent Timothy Cuff.
Cuff says while work continues underneath the 14-year-old building, they are ready for class.
"Well this has been our goal for a long time and today is our first day back. We've been at the churches for the first three weeks of school and today all of our students and all of our staff are back," said Cuff, Ed.D.
As part of the renovations all the tile in the building was spot checked for mold and the carpet in the whole building replaced. Now the classrooms look brand new.
"We've gotten new ceiling tiles throughout the whole school. We've painted the walls, we've got new carpet down and new cold molding which goes on the bottom of the walls so, and all the cupboards have been cleaned and everything's been taken apart," said Cuff.

The Southern Living Taste of Charleston will take place at Boone Hall Plantation on Sunday, September 28. ReBath Northeast Bringing Mobile Showroom to Bloomsburg Fair
Sixty-seven South Africans have been killed and scores injured in the collapse of a building in the compound of a Lagos Pentecostal church last week, South Africa's President Jacob Zuma said.
"This is a particularly difficult time for South Africa. Not in the recent history of our country have we had this large number of our people die in one incident outside the country," Zuma said in a statement on Tuesday.
"The whole nation shares the pain of the mothers, fathers, daughters and sons who have lost their loved ones."
The guest house, under construction in the compound belonging to the Synagogue Church of All Nations, headed by "Prophet" T B Joshua, collapsed on Friday while three extra stories were being added to its existing two floors.
Local emergency services put the total number killed in the collapse in the Ikotun neighbourhood of Lagos at 61 on Tuesday.
There was no immediate explanation for the discrepancy in the numbers.
Meanwhile South Africans expressed their shock and outrage over social media, asking government officials why it had taken so long for the details to emerge.
Clayson Monyela, South Africa's head of Public Diplomacy, said over twitter that numbers took time to emerge because the team in Nigeria were not getting the cooperation they needed.
Monyela also said the death toll could rise.
South African Department of International Relations spokesman Nelson Kgwete said in a statement on Monday that "at least five South African church tour groups were at the Synagogue at the time of the collapse".
