The village renewed its contract for its compost site on Parker Road.
The village has had an agreement with Robert and Carol Breuninger Trust since 2008 to dump leaves collected from residents onto a 5-acre section of land fronting Parker Road. According to city documents, village staff say the relationship has been successful.
The village will pay $4,500 a year in two installments (April 1 and Oct. 1) each year for the use of the land for composting the leaves.
B2B trail work OK'd
The Village Council approved a contract with OHM to complete the design and bid documents for the Border to Border Trail from Central Street to the end of the path from Dexter Huron Metropark.
This work will also include paving the DPW driveway and the negotiated site improvements that were part of the sales agreement with Hafner Rentals LLC.
The improvements will include:
A 20-foot-wide asphalt driveway between Central Street and the existing asphalt driveway at the DPW gate
A 10-foot-wide asphalt pathway immediately south of the driveway
An asphalt parking lot for residents at 3616 Central St. Continued...

Demolition job is a phrase that has gained currency in our politicsa fairly recent usage, maybe a mere couple of generations.
Borrowed from armed-conflict lingo, the idea involves a plot pursued with insidious intent to destroy a target, completely; in lieu of explosives, political demolitionists use exposs of the most malignant sort.
If a demolition job is fair enough in war, it should be fair enough in politics. It should therefore not come as a surprise to Jejomar Binay; no target, in fact, would seem worthier.
Binay is the patriarch of one of the strongest-entrenched, if newer, political dynasties. His only son is the mayor of Makati, the nations richest city. Its a position that has become a family preserve since he got himself appointed to it by Cory Aquino upon her ascension as revolutionary leader following the popular rising that dislodged the dictator Ferdinand Marcos, in 1986.
National brand
In all fairness, Binay did get his mayoral claim validated by a proper vote, for two straight terms, but that also gave him time to warm the seat for his wife, herself inserted only to keep it in the family while he took a prescribed term-long break before reclaiming it and rewarming it for his son.
The Binay name having acquired the virtue of a national brand, however dubious, a daughter has emerged from absolute obscurity to get herself elected senator of the Republic, while another gets to represent a Makati district in the Lower House of Congress.
Surely, for such a broad hold on power alone, the Binay dynasty deserves to be, if not demolished, at least restrained. As happens moreover, Binay has long made no secreteven longer than he has been vice presidentof his desire to be president; in fact, two years yet before the polls and already he is brandishing the red flag of his burning ambition.

NEWTOWN TOWNSHIPThe board of supervisors heatedly debated the request by the Villas at Newtown for a demolition permit to raze a historic wooden farmhouse on the property located at the entrance to the development at Upper Silver Lake Road and Penns Trail North.
The issue was not part of the Sept. 10 supervisors agenda and is expected to be formally discussed in detail at the boards Sept. 23 meeting.
The Newtown Township-based McGrath Homes, which is now developing the property under a court-supervised agreement reached with the township, no longer wants to preserve the farmhouse, as previously stipulated.
As a result, the developer had asked the Newtown Area Joint Historic Commission (NAJHC) to recommend that the structure be demolished.
The commission is responsible for the protection and preservation of historically and/or architecturally significant structures in Newtown Township and Newtown Borough, and makes recommendations to elected officials in both municipalities on whether historic structures should be saved.
It also reviews demolition applications.
In July, the NAJHC unanimously denied McGrath Homes request to tear down the farmhouse.
The desire to save the structure has prompted commission member Bill Mahler to implore the township supervisors not to grant the demolition permit.
Speaking during the public comment section of the Sept. 10 supervisors' meeting, Mahler, who also chairs the townships Historical Architectural Review Board (HARB), claimed that the unoccupied three-story farmhouse has considerable historic value.
