Though this years Helena Building Industry Association Parade of Homes is showcasing five homes, down from nine last year, the builders are saying the market has recovered from the recession.

I think things are really doing well in Montana right now, Elaine Marcille, executive officer with the HBIA, said.

The homes in the parade range from houses for first-time buyers to dream homes, from values of $275,000 to $1 million,Marcillesaid.

There might only be five houses on the parade, but they are five really cool houses, she said.

This is the 22nd year Helena has hosted the Parade of Homes. The parade, which starts Friday and runs through Sunday, is an opportunity for community members to tour homes constructed by area builders and see their work.

Its a great opportunity for people to get to know a builder, Brian Beeson, president of the Helena Building Industry Association, said.

For Chris Purvis of Sierra Custom Homes, that opportunity to talk with community members translates into new customers every year.

Its a great time for people to get out and see whats new on the market and visit face to face with home builders, Purvis said.

He added that although hes heard national predictions of a potential bubble in the housing market, there is still a growing demand in Montana. Sierra, he said, is working on building 15 homes right now.

At this time were seeing a real growth spurt, Purvis said.

Parade offers builders chance to showcase homes

Pew Research Center reported that in 2012, 57 million Americans live in households with at least two adult generations. This number is double from what it was in 1980.

There are a growing number of reasons families choose to live with each other, and home builders and renovation companies must be not only up to the task, but understand the nuances of needs of different family situations.

(StatePoint) Many people seek refuge indoors around this time of year, when outdoor air is full of pollen and other allergens. For allergy sufferers, however, the air indoors can prove to be just as problematic.

Dust that collects in a home contains common household allergens such as dust mite particles and animal dander. If dust is disturbed from furniture, hard surfaces and carpet, those allergens can become airborne and reduce indoor air quality.

To maximize your cleaning efforts while reducing allergens, consider these simple tips:

Dust hard surfaces regularly with moist cloths or special dry dusters designated to trap and lock dust.

Wash your bedding and linens often. Doing so can help you control dust mites in your home.

Vacuum often. Although cleaning can sometimes trigger allergic reactions by releasing dust into the air, vacuuming floors once or twice a week will reduce surface dust and allergens. Make sure your vacuum has a high efficiency air filter to capture dust.

Use a certified professional carpet cleaning service to deep clean your carpets to remove the stains, spills and dust that regular vacuuming leaves behind. Be sure to use a service thats qualified to reduce allergens in the home. REGINA After months under a health advisory warning, a July closure and $1.8 million in renovations, the Lawson Aquatic Centre is open for business.

And yes the hot tub is open too.

Elite-level swimmers had long complained of nausea, vomiting, hospitalizations, developing asthma and persistent coughs after swimming at the pool, and the Regina Optimist Dolphin Swim Club spent months begging the city to do something.

Four months after the Regina QuAppelle Health Region issued a health advisory warning swimmers about the Lawsons poor air quality in November last year city council approved measures to improve air circulation and water quality.

Work on the facility began on July 21.

The citys acting director of facility management, Jill Hargrove, is confident the upgrades will make for a better swimming experience, saying the pool is now as good as any modern aquatic facility.

Hargrove said comprehensive testing at the facility over the past several days demonstrates the systems are working as designed.

(Swimmers) will notice an improved environment, absolutely, she said.

Most of the work has happened behind the scenes, with a new air ducting system the only visible change.

Renovations were expected to be finished by Sept. 1, but the original target date didnt allow enough time to finish construction and test the components.
