DIXON Officials at Open Sesame Children's Learning Center in Dixon still are interested in moving into Lincoln Elementary School, but the State Fire Marshal says they must install a fire sprinkler system first.
The cost? About $200,000 to $250,000.
"This is still on the table, but we are less likely to move in," said Doug Lee, president of Open Sesame's board of directors. "That is a significant expense, and we don't have to the ability to pay for that at this time.
"We are still going through the process, but we have a setback. We will see where this takes us."
The district closed the school at 501 S. Lincoln at the end of last school year, to save money.
The nonprofit day care, based at 1101 Middle Road, rents space on the first floor of the building for its after-school and summer school programs. It has about 110 students in its K-4 after-school program at Lincoln; it serves about 200 students, ages 6 weeks to 12 years, all told, making it the biggest day care in the area, officials say.
If all its programs were to move into the building, a sprinkler system would be needed.
"The presence of the infants would require some additional fire safety measures," Lee said. "If we were to put students on either of the other two levels of the building, that would require the sprinkling."
The district was not so required.
"The school district is governed by the school code and Open Sesame is governed by the Department of Children and Family Services, and they have different requirements," Lee said.

Texarkana, Texas, Assistant Fire Chief Chris Black has ordered Cinemark movie theatre closed until the sprinkler system in the building is repaired and in functioning order, a city official said.
The sprinkler system is suspected to have failed due to a leak in the underground water line behind the building, said Lisa Thompson, the city's public information officer.
The building was inspected on Wednesday afternoon and placed on fire watch as a precaution, she said.
About 9 a.m. Thursday, city officials surveyed the business again, discovered the scope of the issue was significant, and made a determination that the building was unsafe for the public, Thompson said.
The acting manager of Cinemark was notified of the closure. City officials continue to work with theatre management to reopen the theatre as quickly as possible without risking public safety.

HELLERTOWN, Pa. -
A handful of Hellertown residents questioned Hellertown Borough Council Tuesday evening on the removal of sheds and shrubbery in their backyards.
The residents approached council to express concern over recently being instructed they must remove sheds and shrubs on their property.
The homes are located along the Rails to Trail path.
Borough resident Richard Frankenfield said he found signs on his property on Front Street directing him to remove his shed and shrubs.
The residents also received a letter directing them to do the same, he said.
"We were told they [shed] would have to be moved within 60 days," he said. "We were very upset by this."
He also said inconsistencies exist between different properties. According to Frankenfield, newer property owners have been told their properties are fine.
Although Frankenfield's shed crosses over borough property, when he bought the property he was told extending past the line was fine.
"We keep getting different stories," he said. "We want to find out where this is going."

Scientists on Thursday announced in a new report the discovery of a remarkably well-preserved Dreadnoughtus fossil in southern Patagonia. The creature weighed as much as any known land animal, and it wasn't even finished growing, researchers reported in the journal Scientific Reports.
The long-necked Dreadnoughtus behemoth would have measured 26 meters (85 feet) from nose to tail. Its sheer size dwarfs the Tyrannosaurus rex. At 60 tons, Dreadnoughtus weighed as much as seven of the famous beasts.
Heaviest land animal
Kenneth Lacovara of Drexel University in Philadelphia, who discovered the specimen in Argentina in 2005 and led its analysis and excavation effort, said it's the heaviest land animal for which a weight has been calculated with such a degree of accuracy.
The Dreadnoughtus was discovered alongside another, smaller specimen
"With a body the size of a house, the weight of a herd of elephants and a weaponized [nine-meter, muscled] tail, Dreadnoughtus would have feared nothing," Lacovara said.
The creature's old English name evoked memories of early 20th century European dreadnought battleships, "which were huge, thickly clad and virtually impervious," he added.
Dreadnoughtus' weight estimate was based off bones in its upper arm and thigh. The find contained 70 percent of the types of bone in the dinosaur's body and around 45 percent of its total skeleton; however no skull bones were recovered.
"It's by far the best example we have of any of the most giant creatures to ever walk the planet," said Lacovara.
In order to sustain its incredible size, Dreadnoughtus would have needed to eat great amounts of the plants growing in southern Argentina's temperate forests.

Town clerk says expanding services is not feasible in near future
In the far end of Bonavista, as you leave on route 235, there are 50 to 60 households who do not have water and sewer.
Jonathan Parsons photo
A group of concerned citizens who want water and sewer service stand in their neighbourhood, at the corner of route 235 and Birchy Place.
The homes are on the main road, Rocky Drung and Birchy Place.
The first of the houses were built nearly 40 years ago, although many in the town have no idea the area isnt serviced and that the residents rely on well and septic.
Freeman Dunford owns one of the very first houses built there.
He says the lack of a commitment to service the area with water and sewer is a slap in the face when newer parts of town are being serviced.
From this area, I say $50,000 a year (in taxes) goes to council.
Ive been after council for the last few weeks and months and they are going to make another application for 2015 for funding from municipal affairs Its looking very positive the one thing that we need to bring about is to get this project number one priority with council.
