Town clerk says expanding services is not feasible in near future
In the far end of Bonavista, as you leave on route 235, there are 50 to 60 households who do not have water and sewer.
Jonathan Parsons photo
A group of concerned citizens who want water and sewer service stand in their neighbourhood, at the corner of route 235 and Birchy Place.
The homes are on the main road, Rocky Drung and Birchy Place.
The first of the houses were built nearly 40 years ago, although many in the town have no idea the area isnt serviced and that the residents rely on well and septic.
Freeman Dunford owns one of the very first houses built there.
He says the lack of a commitment to service the area with water and sewer is a slap in the face when newer parts of town are being serviced.
From this area, I say $50,000 a year (in taxes) goes to council.
Ive been after council for the last few weeks and months and they are going to make another application for 2015 for funding from municipal affairs Its looking very positive the one thing that we need to bring about is to get this project number one priority with council.

SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) Apple Inc. is the elephant in the room when it comes to the mobile payments market, where it could potentially become a major player and a serious threat to PayPal and eBay, an analyst said Wednesday.
Apple AAPL, -0.83% is expected to also unveil a mobile payments platform on Sept. 9, in addition to a new version of the iPhone and its own smartwatch device.
For years, Apple was seen as the elephant in the room with respect to mobile and online payments, and the source of speculation around the presumed launch of a consumer payments iWallet, Baird analyst Colin Sebastian said in a note.
While there is no shortage of competition in payments, we view Apple as perhaps the most legitimate potential threat to PayPals strong position, he added.
Mobile payments is a growing market that has drawn major competitors led by eBay, which owns PayPal, Google and Amazon.com. The mobile payments market is expected to reach $1 trillion globally by 2017, Sebastian noted, citing data from IDC.
With more than 800 million iTunes accounts, Apple is well-positioned to expand its presence in that space, Sebastian said.
The company has a strong base of existing customers that it could leverage for mobile payments, he added.
We believe Apples closed-platform, software expertise, and brand power position it well, he added. Additionally, integration with its anticipated wearable device could be a key feature. We believe mobile payments could be a significant opportunity.

Joan Rivers is getting the royal treatment in her room atMount Sinai Hospital, with her hair and makeup still getting done by professionals even while she remains on life support. Rivers, 81, is also staying in a room that was decorated just for her.Rivers was rushed to the intensive care unit at the New York hospital last week after a botched vocal procedure caused her to stop breathing.
Rivers was transferred from the intensive unit and upgraded to a larger suite Thursday, a friend tells the Daily News. The hospital space was decorated by celebrity wedding planner Preston Bailey with flowers, bows, plants," her close friend Cindy Adams says. The room also includes a white faux mink blanket. In addition to a luxurious room and getting her makeup and hair professionally done, her dogs are allowed to visit her.
"My mother ... is being kept comfortable. Thank you for your continued support," daughter Melissa Rivers said in a statement this week.
Rivers was rushed to Mount Sinailast week after going into cardiac and respiratory arrest during a visit to her doctor. I know my mother would be overwhelmed by the continued outpouring of kindness and I want to thank everyone for keeping us in their prayers,"Melissa Riverssaid in a statement at the time. "On behalf of my mother and our family, we are extremely grateful for all the love and support weve received.

A few months ago, I highlighted the rise of area mom-and-pop pizza shops from new additions such as Suzannas in Palmer Township and Villa Grande in Bath to growing restaurants such as Rays Pizza in Allentown and Westgate Pizza in Bethlehem.
Now, I bring you further proof of the booming business model with the expansion of Mamas Italian Grill in Trexlertown.
The 42-seat restaurant at 1044 Trexlertown Road (in Waterside Shoppes strip mall) debuted in March 2013 and is already building another venue next door a stand-alone, 72-seat restaurant that will supplement the existing menu with more upscale offerings. It also will accommodate an increasing number of catering requests.
Business has been tremendous, said Schnecksvilles Giuseppe DiFiore, who co-owns the restaurant with his brother-in-law, Marcello DAgostino. This new restaurant will give our diners more space to enjoy the homemade dishes theyve come to love, as well as some new items such as Fiorentina steaks and grilled seafood.
Construction started about eight months ago at 1106 Trexlertown Road, the site of the old Mazzollas II Italian restaurant, and DiFiore expects the new 1,780-square-foot eatery, which will also be called Mamas, to open in the spring.
It will be the familys third Mamas location, supplementing the neighboring strip mall spot and the original Berlinsville restaurant that opened 25 years ago.
During a recent visit to the Trexlertown eatery, I observed the family-run business need to expand firsthand as there was a line at the counter and barely a free table in sight. A hardworking crew, headed by DiFiores daughter and marketing manager Antonella, were cool under the pressure, though, and kept the operation moving swiftly.
Mamas showcases the brothers-in-laws heritage (DiFiore is from Sicily and DAgostino is from Naples) with a wide variety of Italian specialties from calzones, strombolis and manicotti to veal marsala, shrimp scampi and calamari marinara.
The brick-oven pizza lineup is perhaps the most impressive, though, with more than 40 varieties from German, Hawaiian and seafood to baked ziti, Mexican taco and chicken cordon bleu.
Were bringing something nice to the Breinigsville area traditional recipes with a modern twist, all made with never-frozen ingredients, Antonella said. The chicken parm, for example we beat it, cut it, egg it and bread it.
