'Suitember' fancy dress challenge for Torrington window cleaner

    - August 28, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Ian will be donning a different fancy dress outfit everyday throughout September.

DONT be surprised if you look outside and see Batman with a bucket of soapy water giving your windows a good scrub.

A man from Torrington is donning a different fancy dress outfit every day throughout September to raise cash for charity.

From Spiderman to Elvis, Ian Kevern, 45, will be wearing a variety of costumes on his window cleaning rounds.

Ian will be dressing in some madcap outfits for a charity challenge which he has dubbed Suitember.

He said: I was thinking about something to do following Movember, so I thought of Suitember. I thought I could wear Batman or Spiderman suits. I put it to my wife who thought it was a good idea.

My wife is an art teacher and has offered to do my makeup if needed. I dont want to be wearing a hot mask all day, so I thought makeup would be better. Ian said he was keen to hear from people who had any particular costumes they wanted him to wear.

He said: I am open to offers of suits. If people want me to wear a particular suit I will for an extra donation to charity, as long as it isnt a mankini.

I have already had one person ask me to wear a bright suit covered in printed balloons.

Ian will be raising money throughout September for Edukid and the Barnstaple Chemotherapy Unit appeal.

A lot of Brits would have been stumbling for an early morning kebab on Bank Holiday Monday - but one man was more eager than the rest - and ended up ploughing his car right through the front of a takeaway shop.

The hapless motorist, 29, lost control of his Ford Fiesta and crashed backwards through the window of Flames fast food outlet in Smallthorne, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffs at around 8am.

After clambering from the wreckage showered with glass, he then told stunned witnesses: 'I better call my mum'.

Aw shish! The hapless driver lost control of his car before ending up back-first through the takeaway window

The man was arrested at the scene. A police spokesman said: 'He was held on suspicion of failing to provide a roadside breath test sample and obstructing a constable in execution of his duty.

'He was bailed to return to a police station at a later date.'

Staff put on a brave face after discovering the car parked right through the window of their shop - by joking the driver must have been hungry for a snack.

    Heartland road projects for 8/28

    - August 28, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

    CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

?Here is a list of road projects around the Heartland scheduled for Thursday, August 28.

    Labor Day

The Missouri Highway Department of Transportation reminds behavior is the key to safe driving in work zones and on busy highways this Labor Day. They offer the following tips:

Wear your seatbelt. During the Labor Day holiday in 2013, there were eight fatalities in crashes on Missouri roadways and two of those killed were not wearing a seatbelt.

    Butler County, MO

Route CC will be reduced to one lane while crews perform pavement repairs. This section of road is located from Route 51 to Route U. Weather permitting, crews will be working on Tuesday, Aug. 26 and Wednesday, Aug. 27 from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily.

East and westbound traffic will be restricted. Existing lanes of Route 67 from CR 323 to Route 160/158 will be signed as Route C. The north end of Route C (existing Route 67) will remain closed for about two months as work is completed at the intersection of Route 67, Route C, and CR 323.

    Cape Girardeau County, MO

The city of Cape Girardeau says striping and related work at the intersection of William and Sheridan will prepare for the new signal. You can likely expect lane closures on Thursday, Aug. 28. The signal should be operational soon. For more information, you can contact Development Services at 573-339-6327.

Downtown-area warehouses razed for road project

    - August 28, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Tucson took some noticeable steps on Monday in implementing the final phase of its decades-long attempt to connect the east side with Interstate 10 near downtown.

Crews started demolishing three state-owned warehouses on Stone Avenue and Sixth Street to make way for the third phase of the citys Downtown Links project. It will ultimately connect Barraza-Aviation Parkway with I-10.

The $84.6 million project was divided into three phases, with the last involving work on Sixth Street from Church Avenue to Broadway.

This is going to be the most difficult phase, said Tom Fisher, Tucson Department of Transportation project manager.

Plans include constructing a new underpass, a deck plaza, buffered bike paths, elevated pedestrian walkways and a new four-lane road.

Downtown Links has its origins in the Arizona Department of Transportations 1981 Aviation Parkway plan to create a six-mile link between Interstate 10 near downtown and South Palo Verde Boulevard.

Almost from the start, the project garnered stiff opposition from neighborhood activists and businesses who feared the proposed route would destroy too many homes and buildings in historic parts of town.

It took 12 years to get the first one-mile length of roadway built, and another three years to finish the whole five-mile leg to the eastern edge of downtown, which is where the parkway has ended since 1996.

Even though it only spanned one mile, the proposed downtown route underwent over 20 redesigns before a final route was settled on in 2008.

Although the city still needs to acquire additional properties, the plan is to tear down as few structures as possible.
