SHELBY COUNTY, TN -

(WMC) - A Mid-South woman with disabilities says a plumber put her $900 in the hole.

Frenchie King says she has early onset arthritis, so her doctor told her to get a bathtub to soak.King says the plumber took two hours to install a tub she bought on Sunday.

King says she was charged $500 for the two-hour installation. Right after the plumber left, she turned on the nozzle and water started spewing everywhere.

She says when the contractor came back, she was at the hardware store around the corner. She says he wouldn't wait for her.

After calls back and forth, the contractor sent her text messages:

"I was going to come back out there till you called me A thief I am not a thief"

"I will get n touch with my attorney"

"Everything was fine before I left I have worked for people like u before !!"

But King says the plumber wouldn't come back to fix the job, and she had to get a new company to install the tub, which cost another $400.

A PLUMBER who has launched his own business is championing the importance of apprenticeships as he pays thanks to the mentor who give him his break into the trade.

For years Mustafa Altin, known as Muzzy, had tried to find plumbers in York to take him on as an apprentice, often being given a position, before being dropped just months later.

After being taken on at the age of 22 by Steve Lickley, who runs S Lickley Gas & Plumbing Services, Muzzy completed a five year apprenticeship, earning a Level 3 Gas, Heating and Plumbing NVQ while studying a York College.

Muzzy, who during his studies was named Apprentice of the Year and Student of the Year, has now gone on to set up in business on his own, launching Kenson Gas Heating and Plumbing, based in Huntington.

While still working alongside Mr Lickley, Muzzy has thanked him for his support.

He said: "Plumbing was something I always wanted to do but couldn't get into it, and I always wanted the traditional entry route via an apprenticeship.

"I tried so many plumbers around York and eventually Steve took me on and taught me the best way to work.

"He has 45 years of experience, and showed me the proper way to do things.

"He still supports me now. He is my hero, and that is being honest."

Muzzy, who also thanked his wife for supporting him, has named his business after his father Ken, and says as his business grows will be looking to take on an apprentice of his own.

FLUSHING, NY (WABC) --

Instead of warm comfort, she has been burned by red tape and delays.

"I'm just frustrated and angry."

It's a heating issue that's burned Jo Dominguez for years. She says she's the victim of a plumber who cut corners, creating a potential hazard in her home.

"It could eventually leak have an explosion, says Dominguez.

Back in 2003 she gave more than 5 grand to a plumber who owns Stephen Thorpe Inc. to convert her home's heat from oil to gas. But a few years after the job, "I found out there was no permit filed even though i paid the contractor," said Dominguez.

ConEd never got the plumber's paperwork, meaning her furnace was never properly checked by a city inspector. And when she asked another plumber to inspect the work, "He said there was wrong sized pipe used and he was going to charge me a fee of $2,700," recounts the Flushing homeowner.

Jo's been in hot water with the city since '09, the plumbers been promising her he'd file the permit and give her a partial refund for the last five years. Tired of waiting Dominguez, "took him to court."

And in June she won, more than $2,500. And once again was promised payment on her voice mail. Dominguez says the plumber came through with a check, but it bounced. "I want my money and him out of my life," said the homeowner.

So we contacted the plumber by phone and just days later. A bank check finally arrived for the full amount. Now Jo can pay another plumber to finish the job with proper permits.
