PARKERSBURG -Year in and year out, Parkersburg Catholic rides the same fence in terms of the numbers crunch that forced Hundred to cancel the 2014 high school football season.
Earlier this week, Hundred High School made the move official when only 14 players attended preseason camp. Parkersburg Catholic had an inkling trying to schedule a game with the Hornets would be affected, so instead the school filled its 10th game with Clay-Battelle at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 10.
"It wasn't a real problem," PCHS coach Jeff Campbell said. "I've known their head coach informally over the years and he is a really good guy. His teams are consistently in the playoffs and usually consist of 40 players, so it should be a good challenge for us.
"We will have a brutal schedule now with Clay-Battelle, Notre Dame and Buffalo, along with the Little Kanawha Conference schedule - it's loaded with playoff teams," Campbell said. "We're not going to shy away from Clay-Battelle. We look forward to the opportunity. I told the kids, and they are excited."
Campbell can remember several years ago when he only had 15 players available for a several games, but never during that span did the Crusaders forfeit to their opponent.
"It is difficult - sometimes we are practicing with a half line," Campbell said. "Today, we had 17 kids and we started teaching blocking schemes with half lines all the times. You try to find a silver lining - you don't need that many reps.

* Hundred was on the schedule of both Parkersburg Catholic and Paden City, forcing those schools to find replacements.

REDDING, Calif. -
The city of Redding and the City of Shasta Lake are enacting new restrictions on outdoor water use. The water limits are in response to the state's emergency conservation regulations to address California's drought.
Both cities will start enforcing limits on the hours during which water users can run landscaping irrigation.
REDDING:
The Redding City Council approved the following water regulations at its meeting Tuesday night. The rules were listed in the packet of information provided to council for consideration, and linked on the water department's website.
To promote water conservation, the following actions are prohibited: 1. The application of potable water to outdoor landscapes that causes runoff. 2. The use of a hose to wash a motor vehicle, unless a shut-off nozzle is attached. 3. Application of potable water to driveways and sidewalks. 4. Use of potable water in a fountain or decorative water feature, except where the water is part of a re-circulating system.
Outdoor irrigation with hose-end sprinklers or automatic irrigation systems is permitted only between the hours of 9 p.m. and 7 a.m.
Redding water customers whose street address end with an odd number may water only on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday and only within the permitted time period.
Redding water customers whose street addresses end with an even number may water only on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday and only within the permitted time period.
There is no watering allowed on Monday.

City of Shasta Lake makes water waste violations a criminal offense
The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality issued a $13,933 penalty to Richard H. Ramsey, of Lebanon, for allowing an unlicensed person to perform an asbestos abatement project at a residence he owns at 410 Walker Rd. in Lebanon.
He has until Aug. 19 to appeal or pay the penalty.
Ramsey has contacted the DEQ and he is being represented, said Steve Seigel, of the DEQ Office of Compliance and Enforcement.
Our discussion hasnt gone any further than that, Siegel said.
The length of the appeal process varies case to case and depends on the complexities and issues that are raised, Siegel said.
The informal meeting could happen very quickly, Seigel said. Then after that, there is a large variance. It could be a couple of months to have a prehearing. It could easily be six months.
Ramsey has also been cited, but not penalized, for openly accumulating asbestos-containing waste which must be sealed in approved packaging and disposed of at a waste facility permitted to accept asbestos waste, according to a press release from the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality.
Ramsey hired contractor John Powell to demolish the house on the property in July 2013.
A DEQ inspector visited the property in May based on a complaint the department had received and noted that Powell had left vinyl floor tile and sheet vinyl flooring on the concrete foundation pad.
Portions of the flooring were crushed, broken and in friable condition as a result of the demolition activities.
