GREENE COUNTY, Mo. Work to demolish the Route MM/B bridge over I-44 west of Springfield is scheduled for midnight Friday night.
According to the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT), the bridge demolition is the first step in a project to replace the bridge with a new, wider and taller structure.
During demolition, traffic will be rerouted over the ramps at the interchange.
Traffic disruptions can be expected on I-44 and on Route MM/B starting at 7 p.m. Friday night, Aug. 8, and will continue until 6 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 9.
7 p.m. Friday, August 8 -- One lane in each direction on I-44 will be closed at Route MM/B.
8 p.m. Friday, August 8 -- Route MM/B will be CLOSED at I-44.
10 p.m. Friday, August 8, until 6 p.m. Saturday, August 9 -- I-44 traffic routed over the ramps at the Route MM/B interchange.
During the bridge demolition, Route MM/B traffic will NOT have access to I-44. However, I-44 traffic will be able to exit at Route MM/B.
I-44 drivers who want to avoid the possible congestion at Route MM/B can use Route 65 to Route 60 to Route 360 in Springfield to detour around the bridge demolition area.
The Route MM/B bridge over I-44 will be CLOSED from August 8 to November 8. However, the ramps at the interchange will remain open much of the time.

COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) Crews have begun demolishing buildings at a University of Missouri-run apartment complex where a veteran firefighter died in a walkway collapse.
The Columbia Daily Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/1pGIjC9 ) four of the 11 buildings marked for demolition at University Village have been razed since Wednesday. A university spokeswoman says the contractor is performing asbestos abatement at the other buildings.
The demolition is scheduled to be completed by the end of November.
Columbia Firefighter Bruce Britt was killed Feb. 22 as he tried to rescue residents trapped by a walkway collapse at one of the buildings. Tenants were moved out of the 57-year-old complex earlier this summer.
Three buildings are not being torn down because they recently underwent a complete renovation. Those buildings will be used for storage.

Bremont Homes (http://www.BremontHomes.com), the Greater Toronto Areas finest home building company, is presenting advice on the critical steps that each new homeowner must follow when moving in to a new home.
Buying a new home can be a complicated process, so its important to know the procedures so nothing is overlooked, says Gary Breda, president of Bremont Homes. After purchasing the home and getting welcome letters from the builders, the most pressing letter issued will be from the dcor consultant to prepare for a dcor appointment, followed by making a structural appointment and colour appointment. This process of varying dcor could last up to 120 days.
The subsequent letter will be to inform the homeowner that construction has commenced, followed by another letter confirming completion of framing, windows, and shingling of the roof. Breda explains that in the case of Bremont Homes, its going to take some time because, as premiere custom home builders in Toronto and throughout the GTA, they hold themselves to a high standard of quality.
The next step will be for the homeowner to arrange a private walk-through with the dcor consultant and then set up a pre-inspection, he adds. This will take place about 3060 days prior to closing.
About 30 days after closing, a follow-up letter will be sent to check in on the move-in progress, though we at Bremont Homes actually send two more check-up letters, one eight months after closing and another after 15 months, Breda concludes. All of these steps, when taken by Bremont Homes when having someone move into their custom home, are over and above Tarion warranty regulations.
Recognized as one of the Greater Toronto Areas finest home building companies, Bremont Homes is founded on a vision of quality design and workmanship, innovative style, and exceptional customer service. Over the years, Bremont Homes has developed a number of new communities and thousands of homes in Aurora, Burlington, Courtice, Georgetown, Maple, Pickering, Mississauga, Richmond Hill, and other prime locations in the Greater Toronto Area. Bremont Homes currently has a number of upscale communities with custom manors and luxury townhouses under development in Brampton and Wasaga Beach and on Lake Simcoe. It's a great time of year to enjoy outdoor art, including a new exhibit in Downtown Brooklyn that you can really be a part of. NY1's Stephanie Simon filed the following report.
A colorful wind chime by artist Sam Falls is artwork you can hear and C, as in a 'C' scale because that's what you'll be hearing. And don't worry about that paint chipping, that's part of the experience and a reminder of the passage of time.
"It's kind of the same way you experience the sculpture and it leaves, you know, an impression on you, you leave an impression on the sculpture," says Falls.
Falls has five works of art on view at Metro Tech Commons. The colorful interactive pieces are inspired by everything from minimalist art to contemporary playgrounds. And you can easily leave an impression on a bench too. It's made with thermo-chromatic tiles so it reacts to temperature like a mood ring.
"Once you get up and there's this impression by the heat of your body that's left where you were sitting. So you know, it might not tell you your future but it can at least tell you where you were," explains Falls.
The exhibition is called "Light Over Time." It's organized by the Public Art Fund and Forest City Ratner Companies, which developed this area.
"So Forest City was really interested in Sam Falls' work because it's fun and interactive as you can see. So we've already seen children and the new residents here in Downtown Brooklyn coming interacting with the work playing with it," says Forest City Ratner Companies Senior Vice President Ashley Cotton.
"So we are inside Sam's light room and it has a stained glass ceiling above us that actually shines light from above at different points in the day. So every moment you're here is a completely different experience because the light changes above us," says Public Art Fund Curator Andria Hickey.
The exhibit is up through next May.
