Police are investigating a recent break-in and vandalism at a vacant Riverside house designed by Frank Lloyd Wright.
A caller on July 26 reported that someone had broken into the home in the 300 block of Scottswood Road, according to a Riverside Police Department news release.
The multi-unit home, known as the Avery Coonley House, was listed for sale for $354,000 by Pearson Realty Group and is under contract, according to Parker Pearson, vice president and co-owner of the company.
A suspect or suspects probably entered through a broken second-story window in a "bedroom wing" of the compound, the release states. The window was a signature "Wright glass" design, valued between $15,000 and $18,000 in a 2003 appraisal, police Chief Tom Weitzel said in an email.
Inside, police found someone had written "G Baby" and "Goon Squad" on the walls, the release states. Police also found alcoholic apple cider in the refrigerator and human waste in an inoperable toilet, according to the release.
"We have recovered physical evidence from the home and submitted it the Illinois State Police for forensic examination," Weitzel said in the release. "The home has since been boarded up and police have put a special watch on the property."
Police are looking for help in finding out who is responsible for the damage. They ask anyone with information to contact Detective Sgt. Frank Lara at (708) 447-2127 extension 262 or at flara@riverside.il.us.

Recently, we had a call to our office and it went something like this:
An inspector from my insurance company came by and told me that my windows were not compliant with the requirements for my policy. He said that I need storm windows or I will not be covered for storm damage.
He then gave me a card for a company that can get my windows up to where they need to be. It is going to cost thousands of dollars. Do you know if there have been changes to window requirements for insurance?
Seniors vs. Crime started investigating. Was this true? None of us had heard about it.
We contacted the insurance company and, sure enough, they had not sent an inspector.
We then called the agency that we always call about building code specifications, the Department of Business and Professional Regulation. There had been no such change for code requirement for storm windows.
The people going door to door were working as a team. One would pose as an inspector, while the other would be from the business you would end up calling from the card you are given from the first person.
Of course, pretending to be an inspector is illegal, but trying to sell storm windows and/or doors is not. That part falls under buyer beware. I know that this scheme sounds transparent, but these people are very convincing.
If you see someone outside your door, do not open it. Ask the person what he or she wants, and if you are warned about the window regulations, let the person know you are not interested and then call the police. To put your mind at ease, also call your homeowners insurance company and verify your coverage.
Another variation we have seen is one involving windshields. This scam works like this:

Services at the Criminal Courts of Justice, including window-cleaning, security and maintenance, cost 846,000 a month, the Courts Service has said.
The cost to the State for the overall design, build, maintenance and provision of support services for the modernised criminal courts complex will top 604 million at the current rate by the time it comes into the ownership of the Courts Service in 2035.
The building at Parkgate Street in Dublin 8 is the largest courts project undertaken in the history of the State. The award-winning construction is 11 storeys high and provides 23,000 square metres space with 450 rooms and 22 courts.
The project was delivered through a public-private partnership. The contract with Amber Infrastructure included its design, construction and fit-out costs as well as maintenance and replacement of equipment and furniture, and services including cleaning and security. The total monthly outlay, including design and build costs, is 1.8 million.
When the courts complex was officially opened in November 2009, the figure put on all-inclusive costs over the 28-year period of the contract was 291 million net.
Asked by The Irish Times about the costs through the Freedom of Information Acts, the Courts Service said capital, financing and insurance costs accounted for 53 per cent of the 1.8 million monthly charge, while 47 per cent covered services and replacement and maintenance of all furniture and equipment. It also said the monthly payment was subject to indexation.
Asked for details on the cost of one element of the servicing costs, window-cleaning, the Courts Service said it was not invoiced directly for such services, it did not deal directly with the company which cleaned the windows and did not hold the records sought.
Amber Infrastructure and its subcontractors G4S manage the services required to maintain building and deal with the service providers including those providing window-cleaning services. The windows are cleaned by specialists who abseil down the faade.
The cost of constructing and maintaining including cleaning a largely glass external faade would have been built into the pricing of the tender submitted by the successful consortium headed by Amber Infrastructure, the Courts Service said.

Nationally, total construction spending for the first half of the year was up 7.8 percent from the same period in 2013.
While home building is on the rise in New Jersey, construction hiring in the state has actually declined over the past year. But that may change in the months ahead, as multi-family projects pick up momentum.
"We're still anticipating increased hiring in the construction trades in the second half of the year," said Patrick O'Keefe, an economist with CohnReznick, an accounting firm with an office in Roseland. "It's a little bit puzzling that we haven't seen it already."
According to the Associated General Contractors of America, a trade group, New Jersey had the steepest drop in construction jobs in the nation in the 12 months ended in June, losing 11,200 jobs, or 8 percent of the total. The job loss came at a time when home construction approvals have been running almost 29 percent ahead of last year's pace, as the industry continues to climb out of its deepest trough since World War II.
Multi-family construction, especially in Bergen and Hudson counties, has powered the housing recovery, accounting for 61 percent of the activity in the state. That's a big change from New Jersey's historic development patterns, which were long dominated by single-family construction. There's a growing demand for rentals, since many households can't qualify for mortgages because of flat incomes and still-tight lending standards. And many households, especially in the Millennial generation, prefer the flexibility and pedestrian-friendly lifestyle found in urban rentals.
O'Keefe said the stronger performance of the multi-family sector may be one reason why construction hiring has lagged behind housing approvals. In single-family construction, he said, a builder gets a permit and puts construction workers on the job almost immediately. But a multi-family project requires more site work and is built in stages, which could stretch out hiring, he said.
Another factor in New Jersey's slow construction job market is that nonresidential building has been sluggish, both in the state and nationwide, according to Ken Simonson, chief economist of the contractors' group. Public projects, such as highway and school construction, have been constrained by tight federal and state budgets.
And little new office and retail space is being constructed.
"We see much more activity related to renovation of existing space, rather than new space," Simonson said. "New shopping centers just aren't happening." And New Jersey's office market, whose vacancy rate has come down, is around 20 percent, so there's little reason to build more.
