A roofing company and some of its employees that did work on the Corner Brook Canadian Tire store this past spring has been charged with occupational health and safety violations.

On May 16, an occupational health and safety officer noted violations on two occasions that day, according to a Service NL press release. McCarthys Roofing Ltd., a supervisor and two workers, have been charged with violations of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations.

Workers on the roof were using fall protection equipment incorrectly, according to the officer. On the first inspection, harnesses were being worn, but were not attached to the existing anchorages. On the second inspection that day, one worker was not connected to an anchorage and the second worker was connected incorrectly to the equipment. The supervisor was not present on either occasion.

Neither of the inspections at the Murphy Square store were the result of incidents or incidents involving injuries.

The company was charged with failing to provide the necessary supervision to ensure the safety of workers and failing to ensure workers were provided with a suitable fall protection system.

The supervisor was charged with failing to ensure workers under his watch used equipment required under regulation. The two workers were charged with failing to use equipment provided for their protection in accordance with the instructions for use and training provided.

The first appearance was held in provincial court in Corner Brook June 24 and the matter will be called again Tuesday.

Real Estate Press Releases Monday August 4, 2014 14:07

    Bangkok--4 Aug--Nawaplastic Industries

Nawaplastic Industries Co Ltd, Aseans leading vinyl company over the past 44 years, operated by SCG Group, recently introduced a new innovation WINDSOR Fast Renew, transforming old doors and windows into a prettier version in just one day, using Fast Frame Technology developed by WINDSORs team of window and door experts to respond to the home renovation market in Bangkok and surrounding provinces.

Mr. Dhirath Udhayanang, Managing Director of Nawaplastic Industries, said, WINDSOR is a leading brand of vinyl products for construction and decoration. Our products can be divided into two main groups: vinyl doors and windows, and wood substitute for various functions, such as deck system, shading system, soffit system, wall decoration, rain gutter and other outdoor products. We stand out from other vinyl brands because of the extra formula WINDSOR Advance Vinyl, which is developed corresponding to Thailands hot and humid climate by blending anti-UV reagent to vinyl for confidently longer use.

Today, WINDSORs market share in the vinyl doors and windows sector is 80%. In 2013, we aim to branch out to homeowners, and the growth in the second quarter of the year was 12% compared to the same period last year. For the second half of the year, WINDSOR is planning to target home renovation market, which is 15 times bigger than the new home market. Todays customers also care about home maintenance and home decoration, so this is a very strong market and there are not many competitors.

Therefore, WINDSOR has developed a new innovation to serve the home renovation market Windsor Fast Renew. We use Fast Frame Technology to simplify window and door replacement projects, using the innovative technology only available at WINDSOR. This innovation minimizes the time and effort involved in removing and storing old windows and doors or those with functional problems such as getting stuck or having damaged frames. With this innovation, we can replace windows and doors in just one day, interfering with the homeowners time as little as possible. In the first two years, we will focus on Bangkok and surrounding provinces, where there are about 680,000 homes. In the third quarter of this year we will also launch two WINDSOR Fast Renew showrooms near Motorway and on Rama 2 Road, to serve the homeowners in those areas. We expect that the revenue from Windsor Fast Renew will reach 120 million baht by the end of 2015.

Mr. Sumphan Luveeraphan, Vice President of Nawaplastic Industries, said, Fast Frame technology helps us to restore doors and windows quickly. The traditional method would require removing the original frame and sash, which might cause dust and noise. It also usually takes 3-5 days before the new frame and sash can be installed, and a week longer to fix the wall, repaint it and touch up the flaws. These steps depend a lot on the workers skills and cooperation, which can be unreliable sometimes. Also, it might lead to many extra expenses, and makes living in the home difficult during that time.

Fast Frame Technology, however, allows us to install a new vinyl door or window without removing the old frame. The new door or window is beautiful and durable, and there is no need for touch up, so it saves a lot of time and does not create a mess. It also does not lead to additional expenses. Homeowners can be assured of this technology.

Apart from fast and convenient services, WINDSOR Fast Renew also guarantees the quality with the WINDSOR standard, including ultimate protection from leakage, heat, noise and break-ins. The products come in a great variety to fit with various styles of home. Our team of experts is ready to give you consultation and assessment before suggesting the right products for your work. After that, they will remove the old doors and install new ones within a day, given that the job involves approximately 10 windows and doors. Timing also depends on the condition of the work.

These qualities put WINDSOR Fast Renew at an advantageous position compared to other competitors, as no other company is offering such service. WINDSOR Fast Renew is a one-stop service available via two channels. First, come visit WINDSOR Fast Renew showrooms and speak to its staff to get more information and see WINDSOR Fast Renew products. Second, contact the Call Center at 02-555-0333 or visit http://www.windsorfastrenew.com to make an appointment with our expert to assess your home.

A white cross stands on an overgrown lot beside what was once an oil company's southeastern headquarters on Charleston's upper peninsula, a relic of the tent revivals frequently held on the site years ago.

Starting later this year, the small tract will see the footings for what will be a 40,000-square-foot, three-story building called The Refinery with a 300-seat amphitheater in the back.

That's the plan by Flyway, a development and general contracting firm housed next door in what once was the regional office building for the former Standard Oil Co.

Council approves downtown projects; Plans include upgrades to Kress building and demolishing building for new bank

    - August 4, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

The former S.H. Kress building at University Boulevard and 23rd Avenue downtown houses the Pants Store and once housed Spiller Furniture. Planned renovations include an external staircase for six planned condominium units.

Plans for a new downtown Cadence Bank and upgrades to the Kress building's exterior have been unanimously approved by the Tuscaloosa City Council.

Both came before the City Council on Tuesday. Under the guidelines of the Downtown Riverfront Overlay District, the council is required to sign off on development projects within a predefined area of downtown.

For the new Cadence Bank, planned for 2020 University Blvd., developers intend to demolish the existing building that once housed the Ray, Oliver and Ward law firm and construct a two-story bank and office building in its place.

Also planned for the site is a detached building for drive-through services and 23 parking spaces.

The bank, which now operates downtown at 1101 Greensboro Ave., would relocate to the new building once it's finished and complete the sale of its current location.

Eric Heslop, Cadence's city president for Tuscaloosa, said some contingencies remain on finalizing the contract for the law office, but if all goes according to plan, he expects the closing on the new land to be completed by the end of the year.

Construction, Heslop said, should be complete by early summer 2015, but it remains too early to know the total overall investment Cadence Bank plans to make to prepare and construct in new location.

We're super excited about the new site, said Heslop. We get to keep our downtown presence, but for us it's a much more efficient use of space.

John McConnell, director of the city's Planning and Development Services, said that the bank's initial plans for an entrance and exit on University Boulevard was rejected by the Office of the City Engineer, but later added once the city and developers agreed to limit the University Boulevard entrance and exit to right turns only.

Oil Festival to bring in community fun Annual local festival set for Friday and Saturday

By Brian DiFonzo news@titusvilleherald.com Monday, August 4, 2014 4:06 AM EDT

In just a few days, that time of year is officially upon us.

People will be in the streets, the downtown park and all throughout the city. The smells of hot sausages, french fries and other fair-like cuisine will fill the air.

In Titusville, that means its time for the Oil Festival. Friday and Saturday, the city pays its yearly homage to the petroleum industry.

This years theme is Mardi Gras with events catered to all age groups on the agenda (See schedule).

This years event marks the first Oil Festival for Emily Altomare, executive director for the Titusville Area Chamber of Commerce. Altomare took the position last September and says the committee has met regularly since her hiring to set the plan for this years festival.

Its been exciting, said Altomare. There are so many activities and I thought we could do even more this year.

Traditional events such as the 11 a.m Saturday parade, the crafters fair in Scheide Park and the popular fireworks by Gibson Fireworks on Saturday at dusk are again on the schedule. The Zem Zem Shriners will be a parade highlight this year as the organization and numerous affiliated clubs make their first appearances in Titusville since the Oil 150 in 2009.

Having the Shriners a part of the parade will enhance that well-attended event, as will the car show, which starts when the parade ends. Under the direction of Bill Gratkowski and Bob Joyce, classic autos will be seen along West Spring Street.
