WASHINGTON - Oscar-winning director Michael Moore, famous for documentaries challenging capitalism, has divorced his wife of 22 years following a civil court proceeding in Michigan that drew attention to his wealth.

"'Kathleen and Michael have mutually and amicably reached a divorce settlement'," read a posting this week on Moore's Facebook page, confirming his split from Kathleen Glynn, 56.

Moore - whose films include Fahrenheit 9/11Bowling for Columbine and Capitalism: A Love Story and whose net worth has been estimated at US$50 million (S$62 million) - filed for divorce a year ago.

In court documents, he alleged that Glynn - credited as a producer on several of his films - had problems managing money in recent years.

He notably blamed her for a costly expansion of their 10,000 square foot lakeside home in northern Michigan, valued at US$2 million, the Detroit News newspaper reported.

Moore has previously acknowledged how rich he's become as the most famous documentary filmmaker of his time, insisting that he makes a point of paying his taxes in full.

He is currently busy finalizing the 10th edition of his Traverse City film festival in Michigan, opening on Tuesday.

The Larsen Neighborhood Association president has been seeking assistance from city leaders to bring clean, reliable water to her Southside neighborhood.

Some of the more than 300 households, those along the main streets at least, are OK. In the late 1980s, water pipes were installed that allowed connections to city water and sewer.

For close to 100 others, the wells they relied on had become contaminated or dry, leaving residents looking for alternatives. More wells werent really an option because of septic-tank distance requirements.

Bridgeman said the neighborhood residents are low-income and elderly who dont have the thousands of dollars needed to pay for the lines. For years, theyve struggled for options.

Its been a necessity needed for a long time, said Bridgeman of the neighborhoods water problems. It is getting to be an urgent need.

Past administrations and council members, she said, offered a glimmer of hope for good water. That came despite pushback from the city and JEA over the years, as neither said it was their role to pay for the lines.

Out of options, Bridgman said she turned to prayer and doors just started opening up.

One of the people who answered was City Council member Lori Boyer.

Vinyl Room in Burlingame hosted a Yelp Elite member party in the newly renovated bar.

A new and revived Burlingame means a revamping for a bar right off Burlingame Avenue.

With the Burlingame Avenue Streetscape project, Vinyl Room at 221 Park Road has decided to do renovations and took a spin off the name Vinyl Room for creative inspiration. In addition, soon-to-open businesses like the Indian restaurant and the coffee and wine bar H29 should draw more customers in, so the bar is extending its hours.

Weve been here for eight years and a lot of stuff needed attention, said co-owner Juan Loredo. We went with the retro theme because its something different. Everyone uses reclaimed wood and the rusted look. I was just kind of tired of seeing that. I wanted to see something no one else was doing.

Renovations by Craig Walters of C. Walters Design began earlier this year. The bar facade is padded in printed canvas that showcases vinyl records on shelves. Liquor bottles are placed on a hi-fi cabinet that sits on wooden hairpin legs. The bar stools resemble something that would be on the set of the show Mad Men. The lounge area features new booths and metal hairpin legged tables. An art wall features 200 wood panels that are the size of album covers. Other upgraded features include sound, lighting, flooring, mirrors, paint and artwork.

Loredo and his business partner Jose Natividad took over the space that used to house Rockets bar in 2006 and opened Barrelhouse Bar on California Avenue three years ago. The two have noticed changes in Burlingame over the years, from being very busy when they started business to a slowdown during the recession to an upswing.

Now its booming, Loredo said. There are great restaurants bringing people to Burlingame.

Loredo and Natividad, both originally from San Jose, met through the fraternity Theta Chi at San Jose State University where they both majored in advertising. After working in the corporate world, both Loredo and Natividad realized they were both not built for 9-5 jobs.

They also bartended together in downtown San Jose during college and went on to open their first bar, Vinyl Room, when they were both 25.

A bartenders dream is to open up a bar, Loredo said. It was definitely challenging. It was kind of hard to do.
