Red carpet: Eastmont High School graduates got the red carpet treatment when they walked down the aisle to get their diplomas at Town Toyota Center last month. The regal red carpet runner similar to one on which Hollywood celebrities fashion their way to the Oscars is something new for Eastmont. But the carpet itself is well seasoned with memories of other graduations and events of significance. The carpet was donated to the high school by Paul McCulloh of Wenatchee. McCulloh is a retired teacher who taught for many years for the U.S. Department of Defense. He and his now deceased wife, Nancy, taught at a private school at Lakenheath Air Force Base in Suffolk, England. McCulloh told Eastmont High School counselor Joanne Dalinkus that he found the carpet rolled up in a storage room while cleaning house and wanted to see it used again.

It brought back many memories of famous people who paraded on the carpet during the 27 years it was used at the school in England, he said. Celebrities like Katrina Leskanich you remember her dont you? Leskanich was lead singer for the British rock group Katrina and the Waves, whose hit son Walking on Sunshine earned a second life after Hurricane Katrina hit in 2005. Another notable whose feet graced the carpet was Frank Klotz, a Rhodes Scholar and U.S. Air Force commander appointed as administrator of the National Nuclear Security Administration and undersecretary of U.S. Department of Energy Nuclear Security. How could you forget him? Dalinkus said the school plans to use the carpet for future graduations. Theres something special about a red carpet, she said.
