Mainline Roofing of Williams Lake has been awarded the tender to replace the roof over both arenas at the Cariboo Memorial Complex.
The city received two bids that met specific requirements $478,400 from Mainline and $526,150 from Top Line Roofing of Victoria.
Its good to see a bid come in from a local company, Acting Mayor Sue Zacharias said.
Coun. Laurie Walters said the roof has to be replaced.
Were absolutely at our max in terms of having to get this roof replaced or well have more trouble with it, she said.
Overall the accepted bid is slightly over budget by $3,400.
Funding for the project is provided through the Cariboo Regional District.
The roof replacement will result in the removal and disposal of the existing drain rock roof ballast, IRMA roof insulation, CT insulation parapet panels, filter fabric and sheet metal flashing.
The new roof will consist of two layers of two inch polyisocyanurate insulation; one layer of two inch polyisocyanurate insulation to parapet walls; one layer of asphaltic overlay board; a torch-welded two ply roof membrane; one quarter inch fiberglass reinforced gypsum roof overlay board and new perimeter sheet metal flashings.

QUESTIONS TO MINISTERS
Economic ProgrammeInterest Rates 1. Hon PHIL HEATLEY (NationalWhangarei) to the Minister of Finance: How will the Governments responsible fiscal management help to ensure interest rates will remain lower than they were in the previous economic cycle?
Hon STEVEN JOYCE (Associate Minister of Finance) on behalf of the Minister of Finance: The Government will continue to responsibly manage its finances by being careful with its spending and focusing on delivering better results to New Zealanders. It is important that we do not allow interest rates to increase to levels seen in 2007 and 2008, when homeowners were paying almost 11 percent on their floating mortgages. That would be irresponsible. So we have stuck to our very tight operating allowances for new spending and revenue initiatives for 2014-15, and that allowance will increase marginally to $1.5 billion in the 2015 Budget. Treasury has confirmed that this is around the upper limit of new spending before it starts to materially affect interest rates, and it is well below the enormous $7 billion operating allowance under Labour in 2008.
Hon Phil Heatley: What are some of the benefits of the Governments responsible approach to carefully managing its finances?
Hon STEVEN JOYCE: There are a number of benefits. Firstly, the Government remains on track to return to fiscal surplus in the current financial year. Secondly, the latest Budget projections indicate that net Government debtand I stress that is excluding the New Zealand Superannuation Fundwill have fallen to around 13 percent of GDP by 2023. In dollar terms that will be about $150 billion less than Treasury projected before our first Budget in 2009. Thirdly, we have been able to redirect taxpayers money to where it achieves the best results, such as the $500 million package for families and children, which we announced in Budget 2014. The Governments responsible fiscal management is delivering many benefits to New Zealanders.
Hon Phil Heatley: What other examples[Interruption] Mr Speaker, the crowds are cheering; I cannot hear myself.
Mr SPEAKER: Order! Just get on with the question. Otherwise we will move somewhere else.
Hon Phil Heatley: What other examples can he provide of the Governments responsible fiscal management delivering better results for New Zealanders?
Hon STEVEN JOYCE: There are many. I could just give one example: my colleague the Minister for Tertiary Education, Skills and Employment has released figures today showing the Governments strong focus on results in tertiary education is delivering for New Zealanders. In 2013 a record 25,800 domestic students completed Bachelors degrees, which is 24 percent higher than those who graduated in 2008. Overall, the number of qualifications achieved in 2013 by all students was 20 percent higher than 5 years ago. Also, the performance of Mori and Pasifika students is improving dramatically. The number of Mori students who have completed Bachelors
degrees has increased by 62 percent since 2008, and the number of Pasifika students has increased by 56 percent over that same period. Back in the 2000s, the previous Government threw more and more money at tertiary education and the number of people achieving degrees stayed static at the 20,000 mark. With a focus on performance and results we are lifting achievement and delivering a more skilled economy.

Mazdas 2014 Mazda3 scores on all four cylinders: great tech, excellentdriving, a reasonable price, and efficiency. Mazda has extended big car features such as adaptive cruise control and a head-up display down to the compact car class. With SkyActiv engine technology, its improving fuel economy up to 41 mpg and cutting emissions, and breaking new ground with capacitor-based brake regeneration.
No one forces all the Mazda tech on you. Its there if you want it, for instance if youre moving down from a bigger car and still want the driver assists, or if youve seen the lifesaving benefits of Smart City Brake Support (Mazda) or City Safety (Volvo). The combination of tech, performance and space efficiency earns the 2013 Mazda3 our Editors Choice as best mainstream compact car.
The 2014 Mazda3 is a new model and a significant improvement over the 2010-2013 second generation Mazda3. Its offered as a four-door sedan at 180 inches or five-door hatchback thats five inches shorter but hasmore cargo-hauling capacity. An entry sedan goes for $17,000 while a loaded five-door with the larger four-cylinder engine and tech package comes in at $30,000.
The exterior and interior designs flow better in 2014. The tiny, smartphone-size navigation screen is gone, replaced by a 7-inch LCD that sits atop the dash. Critics say it looks tacked on while fans say the design evokes a flat panel TV on a platform and note the same look is popular on high end German cars, so why is everybody picking on Mazda. A simplified cockpit controller (compared to BMW iDrive) on the console makes selections on the LCD display.
Every Mazda3 has a USB jack, most cars have Bluetooth, and blind spot detection and rear cross traffic alert are readily available beyond the entry trim lines. To simplify matters for Mazda and dealers (fewer variants to stock), most of the advanced tech is in a single $2600 technology package at the upper end: adaptive cruise control (radar cruise control in Mazda lingo), lane departure warning, automatic high beams, forward obstruction warning, Smart City Brake Support, active grille shutters to cut wind resistance, and brake regeneration (i-ELOOP). Whats not in the tech package is also impressive: no moonroof, no anthracite headliner, no body side moulding.
Forward obstruction warning uses the ACC radar and warns if you about to rear-end the car ahead when youre traveling 10 mph or faster. Smart City Brake Support uses a windshield-embedded laser to detect objects when youre moving 3-19 mph (4-30 kph). Youre warned, the brakes are pre-charged, and if youre still unresponsive (say, texting), the car brakes for you. It may stop in time and at least it will mitigate the collision.
The coolest and most unique Mazda technology is the one that sounds like a breakfast cereal at the Apple Labs cafeteria: i-ELOOP. Thats intelligent energy loop. When you slow or brake, the alternator turns kinetic energy into electricity and stores it not in a battery but capacitors. Mazda says it can be used to power the headlamps, climate control, and the audio system, with enough energy savings to bump up fuel efficiency by as much as 10%, according to Mazda. Even 5% would be impressive.
