Painting is one of the easiest ways to transform the look of your home, and yet, were just not good at it. We think we can do a room in a day, the whole house in a weekend.
People think painting is a very easy thing, said Michael Parreno of 78 Painting, Textures, Plasters and More, in Austin. Its all about the prep and many years of experience. Patience is everything in painting.
That prep work is going to be about 75 percent of the job, said Louie Funk of Funk Paint Contractors. If people take time to tape off the room, they can do almost as good a job as we can. Theyve got to be serious about taping it off.
Painting also is about knowing what jobs you can do and what jobs are best for the professionals. And, most importantly, its about having the right kind of tools and paint for the job.

CHIPLEY - The Chipley Redevelopment Agency (CRA) is reopening two grants for property improvement. The CRA Special Improvement Grant reopened yesterday after residents reported having trouble finding two licensed contractors to submit bids as required by the application.
The grant, which provides 90% of funding, up to $1,000, for residential properties, is intended to help cover facade improvements such as painting and awning and door replacements for homes within the CRA district.
"Five people submitted documentation, but unfortunately, no one qualified because they couldn't get two bids," said CRA Administrative Assistant Chris MacBlain. "What we're hearing is that local contractors didn't feel the amount of money was worth submitting a bid."
CRA members are considering changing the program requirements to make the projects more attractive to licensed contractors.
Applications for the grant are being accepted now and will continue through August 31.
A $6,000 grant for commercial property is also up for grabs, but MacBlain reports she's given a few applications out but hasn't received any back.
The grant is geared toward making electrical improvements for businesses within the CRA district.
The CRA district runs through the core of downtown and in northeast Chipley.
CRA members are also planning a trip to Mossy Head this month to visit a splash pad . Board members hope to place a similar attraction at Gilmore Park on Church Avenue for local children to enjoy.
For more information on the CRA, contact the Washington County Chamber of Commerce at 638-4157.

Phoenix, AZ (PRWEB) July 03, 2014
Phoenix homeowners can now protect their most valuable possession with a product made with them in mind. Tank Paint, the worlds toughest exterior paint, has been engineered to combat the high temperatures and harsh sunlight that can fade or crack exterior paintand with temperatures on the rise, now is the time to install.
Republic West Home and Tank Paint of Phoenix have created a product that combines ceramics, hydro-thane and resins which all allow for a thicker application and a maximum product life. The key compounds that allows for heat resistance are the elastomeric resins which block heat and provide flexibility. Flexibility is essential for paint because of the contraction and expansion of materials due to temperature changes.
The paint not only resists cracking and fading, but chipping and peeling as well. Formulated especially for the Phoenix market, Tank Paint has proven itself against not only heat and sun, but also against humidity and low temperatures in other parts of the world.
Republic West Home is a step up from your everyday contractor. Its environmental consciousness paired with its incomparable product quality make for a service unlike any other in the home remodeling industry.
To visit Republic West Homes state-of-the-art showroom and design center may do so from 9am to 5pm weekdays.

The Philippines has barred two maid agencies in Singapore from recruiting Filipinos after they were linked to marketing schemes that purportedly treated maids as commodities at shopping malls in Singapore.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, labour secretary Rosalinda Baldoz said the Philippine embassy in Singapore has suspended the accreditation of Homekeeper Agency, which calls itself the industry and market leader on its website.
Another firm, Budget Maid Agency, has been referred to Singapores Ministry of Manpower, as it has been recruiting Filipinos without accreditation from the Philippine Overseas Labour Office, said Baldoz.
She also announced that the labour department is looking into four licensed recruitment agencies in the Philippines that have been providing applicants to Homekeeper.
The Al Jazeera news organisation reported last Friday that some maid agencies were displaying maids from the Philippines, Indonesia and Myanmar at shopping malls in Singapore.
The report mentioned two malls Bukit Timah Shopping Centre and Katong Shopping Centre that it said had rooms and galleries where dozens of women sit beneath garish signs and posters testifying to their friendliness and industriousness and offering their services at super promo rates and special discounts.

Florida Hospital has acquired a new thermal laser called NeuroBlate. It's the first hospital in Central Florida to offer the treatment, and one of only a few in the state.
Diane Bostick, who fought back breast cancer in 2009 but later found the cancer had spread to her brain, received a literal ray of hope, becoming the first person in Central Florida to undergo a new laser thermal treatment for brain tumors.
Five days later, the Orlando woman was mowing her lawn.
"I was the perfect candidate," said the wife and mother of two grown children, who had worried her doctor would say the dreaded, "There's nothing more we can do."
Bostick, 51, was diagnosed with breast cancer five years ago. She fought it with chemotherapy, radiation and a lumpectomy. Despite all that, her cancer doctor told her that her form of cancer was the type that would return.
And it did. A year later, doctors found two small lesions in her brain. After brain radiation, more chemo and a surgical gamma-knife procedure, the two lesions are gone. But a third brain tumor surfaced, this one on the left side of her brain, a region that controls speech, language and memory. It was about the size of a cherry and growing.
More radiation was out, and surgery to this area can cause serious, permanent damage, said Florida Hospital neurosurgeon Melvin Field, who treated Bostick.
But Bostick was an ideal fit for treatment from a new thermal laser, a NeuroBlate System that Florida Hospital had just acquired. It's the first hospital in Central Florida to offer the treatment, and one of only a few in the state.
Bostick's procedure called laser interstitial thermal therapy was May 21.
The procedure involves inserting a probe under MRI guidance through the patient's skull and into the heart of the mass, then heating it up. Heating tumors kills them. But because heat can also kill normal brain tissue, the thermal tool lets surgeons measure the temperature of surrounding tissue.
