June 24, 2014 - ECHL (ECHL) Greenville Road Warriors Greenville, SC: Today the Greenville Road Warriors, proud ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers, announced the first two signings of the offseason with the additions of forwards Chad Nehring and Michael Catenacci.
"Chad is the type of player who can play a solid two-way game and has incredible face-off skills," Road Warriors Head Coach Dean Stork commented. "He leads by example with his relentless work ethic and physical presence in the corners and in front of the net. It is not easy to find this a player who has both great scoring touch and a willingness to do what it takes to stand up for his teammates. We are excited to add a player of Chad's caliber to the Road Warriors family."
Nehring, 27, led the Las Vegas Wranglers with 22 goals in only 49 games last season. The Springside, Saskatoon native also collected 20 assists ranking him second on the team in points. Nehring's professional career began with the Idaho Steelheads for one full season in 2011-12. He moved on to play in the CHL with the Arizona Sundogs in 2012-13 for 66 games and led the team with 33 goals and 57 points. The Lake Superior State University product played 147 collegiate games with the Lakers from 2007-2011 posting 30 goals and 23 assists.
"Michael is a talented centerman who sees the ice very well and knows how to find the open area," Stork continued. "His shiftiness makes it hard to steal the puck from him. He is a threat every time he enters the offensive zone. We anticipate him stepping in and being a great addition to the Road Warriors' offensive game."
Catenacci split last season between the Orlando Solar Bears and Vipiteno, a team in the Italian Elite League. While with the Solar Bears, the 23-year-old scored five goals and amassed 17 assists in 32 games. Catenacci played 234 games with the Kitchener Rangers in the OHL from 2008-2012. He totaled 64 goals and 108 assists during the four year stint but his most impressive season came in the final year when he finished second in scoring with 69 points in just 52 games. Catenacci was born in Woodbridge, Ontario.

2014 is about half over, and the Amazon team has already chosen their top 10 books of the year so far, just in time for you to make a few additions to your summer reading list before the avalanche of prestige titles hits in the fall. There are already books here that will likely make plenty of top 10 lists at the end of the year, including Redeployment by Phil Klay, as well as some books that should have been a bigger deal: Red Rising by Pierce Brown, anyone?
In case youre wondering, none of the books in Amazons top 10 is a Hachette title, although a few made the top 20: To Rise Again at a Decent Hour by Joshua Ferris (#11), The Fever by Megan Abbott (#14), and Those Who Wish Me Dead by Michael Koryta (#19). See below for Amazons list:
1. Updike by Adam Begley: This biography of the American master goes far beyond simple chronology of this complex (and often paradoxical) character, layering on the lit crit where his real life bled into his novels. Detailed and compulsively readable, Updike is essential for admirers, and illuminating for anyone with an interest in literature. 2. The Book of Unknown Americans: A novel by Cristina Henrquez: Henrquezs powerful novel captures readers with the quiet beauty of her characters and their profoundly rendered experiences as immigrants in America. Following nine families who arrived in the States from South and Central America, Henriquez has crafted a novel that is inspiring, tragic, brave, and unforgettable. 3. Redeployment by Phil Klay: The strength of Klays stories, all about the Iraq War or its aftermath, lies in his unflinching, un-PC point of view, even for the soldiers he so clearly identifies with and admires. These stories are at least partly autobiographical, and yet, for all their verisimilitude, theyre also shaped by an undefinable thing called art. 4. Euphoria by Lily King: Loosely based on the life of the anthropologist Margaret Mead, Euphoria is both romantic and intelligent. It is the best kind of historical novelthe kind that will send readers running to learn more about its real-life inspiration. 5. No Place to Hide: Edward Snowden, the NSA, and the U.S. Surveillance State by Glenn Greenwald: Both a tense account of Greenwalds cloak-and dagger encounters with NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden and a blistering commentary on surveillance in a free society, No Place to Hide is thrilling and enlightening, a bellwether moment in a crucial debate. 6. In Paradise: A Novel by Peter Matthiessen: Three-time National Book Award winner Matthiessen set his final story in a mid-90s spiritual retreat at Auschwitz, exploring the sadness, horror, and absurdityand even occasional joythat accompany it. The result is a novel that is as profound as anything the late author had ever written. 7. The Invention of Wings: A Novel by Sue Monk Kidd: In the early 1830s, the Grimk sisters were the most infamous women in America for speaking out in favor of liberty and equality and for African American slaves and women. Monk Kidd brings Hetty and Sara to life in a powerful novel that spans decades, vividly imagining the Grimk sisters courageous trials and personal transformations. 8. Red Rising by Pierce Brown: Pulsing with nonstop action, surprising twists, and unforgettable characters, Browns debutand the first book of a projected trilogysets its tale of struggle and revolution in the desolation of Mars, tackling the large questions of fate and loyalty in brutal and heartfelt turns. 9. Savage Harvest: A Tale of Cannibals, Colonialism, and Michael Rockefellers Tragic Quest for Primitive Art by Carl Hoffman: Was the scion of an American billionaire eaten by cannibals in New Guinea? Award-winning journalist Hoffman steps into Michael Rockefellers boots to investigate his 1961 disappearance, and succeeds in both solving the puzzle and spinning an engrossing tale of adventure. 10. Hollow City: The Second Novel of Miss Peregrines Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs: Continuing the story that mesmerized readers in Miss Peregrines Home for Peculiar Children, Riggs packs Hollow City with more eerie vintage photographs, and like a seasoned magician, seamlessly incorporates them into a remarkableand totally originalfeat of imagination.

Amazon's "Rufus" headquarters project commands three city blocks in downtown Seattle and features three interconnected glass-and-steel domes.

After five years of slow or no growth across many construction sectors, the technology industry's demand for new building stands out. While most markets are only gradually digging their way toward recovery, office starts in many regions are taking off, thanks in part to tech firms seeking more space for operations such as administration and data storage.
Much of the office activity is occurring in well-known tech hot spots, such as Seattle, where Amazon is building a 3.3-million-sq-ft new headquarters campus that consumes three downtown city blocks. In 2013, the city's office starts soared to $709 million, up 205% year-over-year, according to the latest revised data from McGraw Hill Construction Dodge (see table).
Analysts attribute most of the increase to Amazon's massive, three-phased project, dubbed Rufus 2.0, which includes three interconnected spherical glass-and-steel domes that can accommodate mature trees and plants from around the world. But Microsoft, Google and other tech firms also are building, expanding or renovating in the region.
"Office-building construction in Seattle is far ahead of [most] everyone else, largely because of Amazon and the high-tech sector," says Cliff Brewis, senior editorial operations director at Dodge, which shares the same ownership as this publication.
Office construction is up by about 100% or more in 19 of the 75 metro regions Dodge tracks. Some are dubbed "tech pockets," which include the San Francisco region (up 386%), where Apple is about to start building its new, $2.5- billion headquarters in Cupertino; Facebook's $435-million West Campus expansion of its Menlo Park, Calif., headquarters is under way; and Samsung America is erecting a $200-million headquarters in San Jose, Calif.
Not all the office sector's growth can be attributed to the tech industry. However, Apple, Facebook and Microsoft as well as smaller dot-coms are expanding their operations and kick-starting markets in select regions.
"Typically, white-collar employment results in absorption of office space, which leads to construction demand," Brewis says. The tech firms typically build offices near major universities in cities with good transit, housing and other amenities. "There's no doubt about the fact that techand all the new creative work being done, the new firms being created the wealth they are seeingis just incredible," Brewis says. "It results in hiring and offices going up in those marketplaces where tech plays a significant role."
