Utah Security Company Accused of Deceiving Consumers to Make Sales

    - June 7, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

(KUTV) Home security giant ADT has accused Orem, Utah based Vision Security of training its salespeople to lie in order to make sales.

ADT sent KUTV a two minute video that they claim was shot in Arizona back in March of 2013 using a cell phone. The video shows an instructor wielding a clipboard talking to a class. A piece of paper on the clipboard reads, "Vision."

The instructor, which ADT claims was a regional sales manager for Vision Security, tells his students what to say when they see a security sign in someone's front yard that reads, "ADT."

The instructor demonstrates telling a homeowner that he is there to upgrade that homeowner's current home alarm.

"We're with G.E. We are the makers of all the equipment that you guys have in the home," the instructor acted out in a demonstration. "We do business with all the security companies. ADT is one of them."

ADT lawyer Dave Bleisch says they do not do business with Vision Security.

"It's very clear that they're being told how to tell lies to consumers," Bleisch said.

The video reinforces complaints filed by homeowners from across the country. The state of Ohio sued Vision Security last fall claiming Vision salespeople lied to Ohio residents about the identity of the company, the price of the system, or that Vision Security was there to upgrade the consumer's current home security system.

Vision Security settled those charges earlier this year.

In Utah, the division of consumer protection has cited vision security. The citation refers to numerous complaints that Vision Security salespeople made untrue statements. The complaints came from around the country including Missouri, Illinois, Maryland and Virginia.

Connecticut-based Climate Partners Celebrates 75th Anniversary

    - June 7, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Milford, CT (PRWEB) June 05, 2014

Climate Partners, a Connecticut-based HVAC service, repair, and optimization company founded in 1939 by John and Margaret Casey, is celebrating their 75th year in business.

Formerly known as Casey Fuel, the company originally delivered ice and coal to residents of their hometown of Milford, beginning around the middle of the Great Depression. The Casey family weathered the difficult economic times, and has continued to serve Milford homeowners through three generations.

Current owner Tom Casey comments on their longevity: "Climate Partners is incredibly grateful to our customers for helping to keep us in business for over seven decades. Its a huge accomplishment but wouldnt be possible without faithful customers."

By the early 1970s, the company had evolved from mere fuel delivery to providing customers with efficient home heating and cooling solutions. They also provided services for commercial clients, including transport refrigeration services for trucks and trailers.

In 2001, they won the National Residential Contractor of the Year Award. They are not only the only Connecticut company to receive the award, but are also among the most decorated companies in the industry nation-wide, having won 12 awards to date for comfort, quality, and design.

Climate Partners is celebrating their platinum anniversary by offering discounts and specials throughout the year for existing and new customers alike, as a way of saying thank you. "Our goal," says Casey, "Has always been and is to this day to deliver top-notch customer service. That is our greatest pride."

Casey also attributes the company's success to the strength of their staff. Dana Casey, Tom's wife, helps to manage the business, while brother Todd Casey serves as Vice President of Production. Edward Woodhead is their Vice President of Operations. "The fact that Climate Partners has been in business this long throughout so many economic ups and down speaks volumes," says Casey. "We are so proud of our staff, from the service technicians to the sales team."

Climate Partners' anniversary coincides with another milestone -- Milford's 375th anniversary. According to Casey, the work aesthetic of the town is the perfect match for the work aesthetic of his business. I'm proud to be a part of Milford's heritage, and that my family has been serving the local community for 75 years," he says. "Good old-fashioned, hard-working tradesmen families are a dying breed. It's just not something that's commonplace these days.

Climate Partners, located at 922 Bridgeport Avenue in Milford, Connecticut, has been offering HVAC service, repair, and installation solutions to customers in the Fairfield and New Haven counties area for 75 years. For more information or inquiries, visit climatepartners.com.

"Anything that you need, we'll do," says Anna Erickson, who started Lady Bug'z with partner Mike Alioto two years ago.

The initial aim of the business was to help local seniors be able to live independently longer, as well as make the transition into a care home.

"We try to keep our seniors in our community living independently," Erickson says.

From care aides and housekeeping to organization, help with running errands or simple companionship, Lady Bug'z Lifestyle Assistant offers a variety of services aimed at helping seniors stay comfortable and safe at home as long as possible.

The help is not just for seniors, however, as the couple says Lady Bug'z services are available to anyone who needs a hand.

It can also take care of vacation and party planning, gardening and has an arsenal of experts in everything from plumbing to a notary public available.

Erickson says she came up with the idea for the business while working at The Waterford seniors' facility in Tsawwassen.

Classic Wheels: 1957 Chevy Handyman station wagon

    - June 7, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Leon Stackhouse, of Pen Argyl, has owned this rare 1957 Chevy Handyman station wagon for about two years.

Stackhouse has wanted a Handyman ever since he saw one for sale at a Pen Argyl gas station while a senior at Bangor Area High School in 1970. He told a high school friend he was going to see about buying the Handyman to convert for the drag strip.

"Turns out his uncle ran the Gulf station near Weona Park. That's how he beat me to it," Stackhouse says. "He paid $250 for it. I bought a '58 Chevy convertible instead."

Described as the "workingman's Nomad" because of its popularity among carpenters, plumbers and other tradesmen, the Handyman came standard with a six-cylinder motor and three-speed manual transmission with column-mounted shift.

"Everybody thinks it's a Nomad," Stackhouse says. "At car shows Nomads are a dime a dozen, but you never see a Handyman."

Stackhouse has worked on cars for about 40 years. He wasted no time in upgrading the classic Handyman, dropping in a 305-cubic-inch Chevy V-8 from a 1988 Camaro and a Muncie four-speed transmission with floor-mounted shifter.

"The paint and chrome was already done," Stackhouse says. "I put in new windows, total interior, power steering and brakes. I pretty much disassembled it and put it back together."

The color is a two-tone 2001 Lincoln metallic tan and pearl that closely matches the colors of the day. The classic Cragar chrome wheels add to the car's 1960s ambience.

Stackhouse and his wife, Doris, are members of the Wanderers Car Club and can be seen with the Handyman at area car shows and cruises.

Stackhouse has owned and restored more than 20 classic cars over the years and is still going strong so much so that he recently installed a gas-station lift in his garage.

INDIA: Two more sanitation workers die cleaning sewer

    - June 7, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

INDIA: Two more sanitation workers die cleaning sewer

ISSUES: Right to food; inhuman and degrading treatment; hunger, starvation, corruption; impunity; rule of law, Right to life and livelihood; right to rehabilitation and compensation

    Dear friends,

The Asian Human Rights Commission (AHRC) has learnt about the death of two sanitation workers in Hyderabad. They have died while cleaning a gutter, a practice outlawed by the Supreme Court of India. These deaths follow others one sanitation worker in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, and three in Gujarat that have taken place in the wake of the historic 29th March Supreme Court verdict criminalizing the practice of manual cleaning of human excreta.

    CASE NARRATIVE:

The AHRC has learnt about the death of two sanitation workers, Mr. Beemulu, 23 years, and Mr. Narayana, 53 years. They died inside a drain in Rajendra Nagar, Hyderabad, this Saturday. Mr. Beemulu was trapped first. When Mr. Narayana entered the drain to help him and got trapped too. Media reports state that the workers were cleaning an 18-foot deep drain; they were trapped inside and suffocated to death due to the lack of oxygen. The owners of Imperial Residency apartments employed the two men to cleaning their sewer; one of the sewage lines had overflowed due to a blocked manhole. Media reports also note that the residents were compelled to employ private manual scavengers. Repeated complaints to the municipal authorities regarding the sewage problem remained unanswered.

The deaths occurred despite the practice of manual cleaning of human excreta, in any form and in any place, having been outlawed both by the Indian parliament and the Supreme Court of India. On 27 March 2014, the Supreme Court has imposed a categorical ban on anyone entering, or being forced to enter, manholes, unless there is an emergency. The Court clarified that even in a case of emergency, entering a drain or manhole can only be permitted with the written approval of a Chief Executive Officer and with all protective gears in place.

The Court ordered all state governments to strictly enforce the Prohibition of Employment as Manual Scavengers and their Rehabilitation Act, 2013, and to take immediate measures to eradicate manual scavenging. The verdict has also put command responsibility on the Chief Executive Officer (or equivalent post) of the locality and instituted a compensation of Rupees 10 lakhs in the case of death due to such a practice.

The death of Mr. Beemulu and Mr. Narayanan, however, exposes the criminal disdain authorities have even for the orders of the higher judiciary. Forget about being permitted or not in writing by the chief executive officer, the deceased sanitation workers were not even employed by municipal authorities and were working for private citizens. Unfortunately, this situation is not peculiar to Hyderabad or the state of Andhra Pradesh; such deaths keep occurring across the country. Though data on such deaths is hard to come by, both because of such private employment and authorities quest to hush up the matter, a conservative estimate by dalit rights activist S. Anand puts the toll at 22,237 deaths a year across India, with around 700 deaths occurring inside manholes.

These deaths have followed the deaths of a manual scavenger, Mr. Pavan, in Varanasi and three others in Gujarat; all of them have taken place after the Supreme Court verdict. In case of the death of Mr. Pavan, the authorities even feigned ignorance about who employed the man to do the job. The AHRC condemns the continuation of such deaths and holds the authorities responsible. The AHRC demands compensation for the families of the deceased workers and also the prosecution of the Chief Executive Officers administering areas where the deaths occurred.

Window Genie Announces Grand Opening in SW Knoxville on June 9th

    - June 7, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Lenoir City, TN (PRWEB) June 05, 2014

Window Genie announces the grand opening of its newest location in SW Knoxville on Monday, June 9th. Debbie Lunsford is the owner/operator. Window Genie is a nationally ranked home service franchise that specializes in window cleaning, window tinting, pressure washing, gutter cleaning and more. Window Genie of SW Knoxville will service Lenoir City, Loudon, Louisville, Karns, Concord, Farragut and surrounding communities.

Before joining the Window Genie team, Debbie Lunsford spent 14 years as an investigator, doing background checks for federal security clearances. This past year as work slowed down, Lunsford was among many that were laid off. I typically take things pretty well and was able to see the positive in this situation, Lunsford said. I believe everything happens for a reason and I simply looked at it as an opportunity to pursue my next venture. I had always thought Id be a business owner one day, but for many years I had a job with great benefits that I enjoyed very much. This past January, when I was laid off, I decided to seriously look into business ownership.

Lunsford was a frequent listener of a Chattanooga radio program, Lets Talk Money. Franchise coach with The Entrepreneurs Source, Bruce Krebs, was a frequent guest on the show. Lunsford said, I enjoyed what he had to say and when I was laid off, I felt it was time to reach out and see if he could help steer me in the right direction. I didnt know what to expect but through conversations where we analyzed my goals, interests, strengths and weaknesses, Bruce presented six franchises he felt I could excel with and enjoy. After researching each opportunity, Lunsford was able to narrow her choices down to two franchises, Window Genie and one other.

On making her decision, Lunsford said, Talking to existing Window Genie franchise owners really helped me make my decision. I spoke to some whove been in business over 10 years, some who just bought a business last year. Every conversation left me feeling re-assured that I was headed in the right direction; every franchisee was incredibly honest about their experience and were ultimately happy running the business because they felt that no matter what issues theyve run into along the way, the corporate support staff was always there to guide and coach them back on track. I am realistic and know that opening a business is not going to be easy or smooth sailing, but Im up for the challenge and trust the support and training Ive received and will continue to receive along the way.

Lunsford officially opens for business on Monday, June 9th and will service the surrounding SW Knoxville communities of Lenoir City, Loudon, Lousiville, Karns, Concord, Farragut and more.
