Grants and donations of material and labor went into the construction of directory sheds at Greenwood and Mobridge City Cemeteries.
Directory sheds have been placed in Greenwood and Mobridge City Cemeteries through an AARP community project grant obtained by the South Dakota Retired Teachers Association and through local donations of material and labor. The funding also provided computer units with dedicated software for the Senior Citizens Center and Klein Museum for use by the public. Material and labor exceeding the grant funds were donated. Donations came from Jensen Rock and Sand for concrete, Kemnitz Construction for lumber and shingles, and Michael Bezenek for directory covers. Labor and services were provided by Kemnitz Construction, Davis Martin, Roger Nordstrom, Otto Oster and Virgil Binfet to build the enclosures and transplant trees. Copies of the directory pages were made by A.H. Brown Public Library and laminated by the Mobridge-Pollock School District. Robert Maisch did the projects photography. Plans are to open the sheds in the near future. Inside the enclosures are wall-mounted diagrams showing cemetery layout and gravesite identification numbers. Directory books contain the alphabetical listing of the names with the site location numbers. Directory updates are scheduled to be done annually in January. A revised edition will be forthcoming when the new software entries are complete. NEWORLEANS-- When the Orleans Parish District Attorney declined to prosecute Marigny resident Merritt Landry for shooting a teen who was on his property, the case against Landry became a public record.
That case file sheds new light on the evidence grand jurors possibly weighed last March when they couldnt reach a decision whether to indict or clear Landry of the shooting.
Fourteen-year-old Marshall Coulter was shot in the head with a single gunshot when Landry said he believed Coulter was trying to break into his house last July just before 2 a.m.
"34s, code 2. 735 Mandeville. 735 Mandeville," an NOPD dispatcher is heard saying on the departments radio system the night of the shooting, indicating a shooting at Landrys Marigny home.
It was the first time New Orleans Police detectives heard about the Marigny shooting. Landry had called 911 to report it.
Complainant shot male in his front yard, the dispatcher says.
Officers respond saying theyre headed to 735 Mandeville Street. Landrys 911 call is also included in the case file.

The towns Sugar Sheds, pictured, are to be the stage for an ambitious performance called White Gold.
It is part of the Glasgow 2014 cultural programme and will take place from 4 to 7 June.
A 200-volunteer cast will join a team of professional artists and performers to tell the untold stories of the people of Inverclyde, through drama, movement, music and breathtaking aerial performance.
Paul Bristow, from Inverclyde Community Development Trust, has been involved with the project behind the scenes, sourcing stories and memories from locals.
He said: Weve been amazed by the power of the stories and the generosity of those who have given them.
Most people, perhaps because we were strangers, were only too happy to share and there were some really sad and beautiful stories in there.

TACOMA U.S. District Court Judge Benjamin Settle on Thursday ordered Longview businessman Ray Caldwell to pay $636,500 in restitution for multiple violations of the Clean Water Act, well short of the amount federal prosecutors had requested from the owner of All-Out Sewer and Drain.
The money will go to three entities defrauded by All-Out between 2003 and 2012:
The government had sought nearly $1 million in restitution.
In April, Caldwell was sentenced to 27 months in prison and fined $250,000 after being found guilty of 33 felony counts related to years of illegally emptying his septic tank pumper trucks into the Longview sewer system. in violation of the federal Clean Water Act.
He is out of prison while he appeals his sentence. No court date has been set for his appeal.
Minimum payments of $5,000 will be made by All-Out, which is being run under probation by Caldwells wife, Joanne. Payment in full is expected by the time Caldwell finishes his prison term and supervised release, about six years.
Caldwell has cashed out roughly $250,000 from a retirement account and the check is in the mail, his attorney Wayne Fricke told the court. That payment will be put toward the $1 million or so in fines and restitution that Caldwell owes.
A 45-minute conference was held during recess between prosecutors, Fricke and Caldwell to determine the exact amount of restitution, which was agreed to by Judge Settle.
Fricke said it is unlikely Caldwell will appeal the restitution judgment, which did not include pre- and post-judgment interest that will be applied.
Caldwell and his business were convicted of dumping sewage collected directly into the citys sewer system to avoid per-gallon disposal fees. Caldwell also underreported the amount of sewage collected into the hundreds of thousands of gallons.

Wichman joined commissioners Frank Carbone and Donna Cox in voting no. That means raceway owners will construct a water and sewer plant to serve a massive expansion project an 80-home subdivision, recreational vehicle park, commercial strip with sit-down and fast food restaurants, a 231-room hotel, multiplex cinema and an artificial lake and donate it to for-profit Utilities Inc. of Central Nevada. Carbone made the motion to let the privately-owned utility take ownership of the water and sewer plant.
That leaves the kid up here making a decision for your community, Wichman said. The only part I have a problem with is this is the county taking on another utility without any idea of a budget.
Russ Meads, owner of Double M Construction, the builder of the project, told commissioners giving it to UICN would be more time consuming, requiring the company to obtain a Utility Environmental Protection Agency (UEPA) permit, a six- to nine-month process, plus another six months for an annexation agreement, annexing the old part of the racetrack property into the UICN service territory. But afterwards, Meads said the Public Utilities Commission may be able to process both those applications at once.
This really sets forever what our utility structure will be in the future, Meads told a group of residents gathered outside commission chambers.
Pahrump Town Manager Susan Holecheck, appearing visibly upset, said the rejection will doom the Pahrump Fairgrounds project, her top priority since taking the position. Nye County will take over town government functions in a little over seven months.
Commissioner Dan Schinhofen was visibly shaken by the vote against accepting what amounted to a $4.5 million gift.
Its going to save us $4 million in the future. Why we wouldnt approve this I dont know, he said. The next time you ask me to help a developer I dont know what to do for you. This is a great project for us.
Mike Meacher, vice-president and chief operating officer of Front Sight Firearms Training Institute, said he watched with great interest what the other major recreational provider was doing.
Its a wonderful project and I would implore you to figure out the most efficient way for this to occur, Meacher said. Theres some territorial issues involving the utility, but the issue for the county and the town should be pretty straightforward. You have a developer willing to spend tens, maybe millions of dollars in a community, theyre going to take very little out.

Raceway debate turns into costly debacle

The Water Street Inn in downtown Stillwater can proceed with plans to narrow a portion of Myrtle Street in order to make room for an expansion.
Under the plan approved by the Stillwater City Council Tuesday night, the southern edge of Myrtle just east of Water Street will be moved 3 feet north to accommodate the addition's tower element -- a nod to the clock tower of the Union Depot that formerly stood on the site.
The owner of the inn, Chuck Dougherty, is planning a 21,000-square-foot addition that would add about 20 rooms to the 41-room hotel. It includes a rooftop patio and a new primary entrance and lobby.
The council, however, put four special conditions on Dougherty's permit.
The conditions are designed to ensure that Dougherty "will build what he says he is going to and in a timely fashion," said Community Development Director Bill Turnblad. "There have been issues with performance on previously approved projects."
Among the issues: exterior building design and features were not completed as per a permit, and trash that was supposed to be kept enclosed in the building was not, Turnblad said.
