Best way to get an audience
Richmond Olympic Oval brass have secured numerous sponsorship deals with big corporations to help keep costs down under the big white roof. Press conferences to announce such partnerships arent exactly barnburners. But bring a hockey player along, and voila, an audience! Trevor Linden attracted a crowd, so did Mason Raymond at an announcement involving a few dozen charities. Remarkably, the audience at baby-faced Raymonds event was mostly young women. Go figure.
Best real life reminder of the Humongous Bank ads
Remember those hilarious ads for Humongous Bank that Richmond Savings used to do? They went like this: Yknow, I hear people say big banks dont care. At Humungous, that just isnt true. Example: Customer wants a loan. Our policy is, dont say, No, we wont lend you money. Say, Yes, we wont lend you money. Same message, sounds nicer. Know what I mean?
The humourous ad campaign, where Richmond Savings poked fun at the big banks while claiming Were not a bank. Were better, was a huge hit until it retired in 1999, as the credit union began the path towards its merger into Coast Capital Savings.
We bring this up because there is, in all seriousness, a bank called Mega International Commerce Bank (Canada) on No. 3 Road.

NAPLES Donors have raised $650 for the family of Sergey Chepchugov, the man who deputies say was shot and killed by his neighbor Sunday.
A GoFundMe.com site has been set up for Chepchugov, the 41-year-old handyman from Russia who friends said was always willing to lend a hand when it came to repairs or renovations on their homes and businesses.
"His handiwork is everywhere and we're always reminded," said 29-year-old Leeza Arkhangelskaya, whose parents met Chepchugov 15 years ago.
Arkhangelskaya set up the site for the family.
The site aims to raise $10,000 for Chepchugov's wife and daughter Olga and Marina Kolesnikova.
Arkhangelskaya said the family had been planning to open a restaurant together before Chepchugov died.
"Sergey was the provider for his family so his wife and daughter are suddenly left without anybody to help them out," Arkhangelskaya said.
A memorial will be held Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. for Chepchugov at Muller-Thompson Funeral Chapel & Cremation Services on Pine Ridge Road.
