Paul Walker's Car Collection's For Sale … But Without His Name

Car Collection Up for Sale ... But Without His Name 5/1/2014 12:20 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

    EXCLUSIVE

Paul Walker's famous car collection is now up for sale, but TMZ has learned the estate will NOT use Paul's name in connection with the sale.

According to our sources, Walker's exotic car shop, Always Evolving, is working with the estate to organize the sale, which has already begun -- but we're told the estate felt Paul wouldn't want his name, or the infamy of his fatal crash, to be used to jack up prices.

According to our sources, about 30 cars will go up for sale ... including BMWs, Audis, a lot of Mustangs, and a few Porches.

We're told all vehicle sales will be private through high end brokers. Sorry, Walker fans ... these cars won't be popping up on AutoTrader.

Darling Homes Begins Pre-Sales at New Windsong Ranch Community in Prosper

    - May 1, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Prosper, Texas (PRWEB) April 30, 2014

Darling Homes has begun pre-sales for its new neighborhood at Windsong Ranch in Prosper.

Set against the lush meadows of Prosper, the 2,030-acre master-planned community of Windsong Ranch will feature two Darling Homes collections debuting this year.

Never-before-seen floor plans will be offered by the Dallas homebuilder at Windsong Ranch.

The first collection of homes, which has opened for pre-sales, is a series of homes ranging in size from approximately 2,600 to 3,700-square feet, will be situated on 61-foot wide lots, with prices starting from the mid-$300,000s.

The second collection, set to debut this summer, will feature larger homes, offering from 2,600 to 4,200 square feet of living space on 71-foot wide lots and starting from the $400,000s.

Both collections offer that distinctive Darling Homes signature, said Christine Kenny, marketing manager for the Dallas homebuilder. Dallas homebuyers will love the open floor plans, the attention to detail and the community amenities.

Windsong Ranch will preserve more than 600 acres of Texas open space, with a series of parks, green spaces, lakes and creeks available to local residents. In addition, Windsong Ranch will offer access to a first-class amenity center in The Commons, positioned on a hilltop overlooking a spectacular lake with gorgeous views of the surrounding countryside.

The Commons will also offer fitness facilities, a resort-style pool, lap pool, cabanas, kids spray park and much more. The Commons is also adjacent to The Esplanade, perfect for community gatherings and events.

Windsong Caf will offer a perfect place for family and friends to gather to plan the days activities or to simply catch up after a fun day in the community.

    Cape Carteret pond work underway

    - May 1, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

    By BRAD RICH

    Tideland News Writer

After months of discussion and behind-the-scenes activity, there was finally a visible sign of things to come last week at the troubled drainage ponds in front of Cape Carteret Baptist and Presbyterian churches.

Dr. Lexia Weaver, coastal scientist for the N.C. Coastal Federation in nearby Ocean, said surveyors were out in a canoe, taking depth and other measurements necessary to develop the cleanup plan.

The goal, Weaver said Thursday, is to have two or three possible design concepts ready for consideration by the two churches by the end of May. Once a plan has been chosen, work can begin to return the ponds to their wetlands function as storm water retention and filtration areas.

A conservation easement allows the churches to install benches, walkways, bridges, plantings and other amenities that would make the pond areas suitable for worship and other passive uses, but still maintain the former pond sites as natural areas capable of handling the significant storm water runoff from the properties and other hardened surfaces, such as adjacent N.C. 24.

Longstanding problems with the ponds were exacerbated in November 2012 when a water control structure failed and the water drained into Deer Creek. Cape Carteret officials contacted the federation to see what could be done, and the organization suggested that the ponds be turned into wetlands.

The state Division of Water Quality had surveyed the larger pond but said it would not take responsibility to help restore it. The state DOT also declined to help, despite having four pipes that bring water into the pond from N.C. 24. The Army Corps of Engineers said that the pond predated its permitting process, but if the Corps become involved in fixing the pond, a permit would be needed before any work is done.

At one point, all involved envisioned seeking a 60-40 percent state grant, meaning the two churches would each have to supply 20 percent of the project bill. The town agreed to act as a fiscal agent for the grant, but would assume no fiscal responsibility or liability for the project itself; the churches costs were expected to be $20,000 to $25,000 each, and a total cost of $200,000 or so was envisioned.

That was a viable solution, but because of the high cost to the churches, was not optimum. And even that fell through when the federation learned that the project no longer qualified for the federal Environmental Protection Agency grant.

Landscape Architect Designs Toolkit to Make Cities Inclusive of Adults with Autism

Newswise MANHATTAN, KAN. Kansas State University landscape architecture student Elizabeth Decker has a goal for her master's research: help professionals create urban environments that are inclusive of her younger brother, Marc.

Marc has autism and will soon reach adulthood. Decker, Lansing, who will graduate May 16 with a Master of Landscape Architecture degree, developed a toolkit for her master's research report that helps designers and planners make cities more inclusive for adults with autism.

When Marc becomes an adult, he likely will live semi-independently, Decker said. Her project, "A city for Marc: An inclusive urban design approach to planning for adults with autism," proposes knitting together urban opportunities such as public transportation and affordable housing.

"Through this project, I really want to understand my brother," Decker said. "I want to see him go out in the real world and be successful. This project was a way for me to research more about autism and learn more about people like my brother. It helped me figure out how we can design for a group of adults that is getting bigger."

One in 68 children are diagnosed with autism, Decker said. As the generation of diagnosed autistic children ages, it is important to find ways to help adults with autism.

The National Institutes of Health has identified six needs for adults with autism: vocational training, life skills, mental and physical health support, employment, public transportation and affordable housing. Decker's urban toolkit addresses these needs because many cities do not have adequate services for adults with autism.

"The focus of the project is inclusive urban design," said Katie Kingery-Page, who is Decker's adviser and an assistant professor of landscape architecture/regional & community planning. "Elizabeth's project is about connecting the dots. While many different aspects exist in an urban environment, she is looking at how future planning and design changes can help connect everything in a way that works and is inclusive of a particular group. We want to allow people to function fully in an inclusive environment."

For the project, Decker conducted a literature review and interviewed adults including an adult living with blindness, an adult living with autism and an adult living with Asperger's syndrome to better understand their needs in an urban environment. The adults stressed the urban needs for public transportation, training services and access to health support.

    Plan, Dont Plant

    - May 1, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

    By STEVE KAUFMANContributing Writer

The Spring weather has finally settled in. Temperatures are modulating, grass is growing, most early flowers are blooming and the April showers have made their presence known.

Is it too late, then, to plant for this season?

Not at all, says Bradley Barz, landscape designer and project manager with Frank Otte Nursery. Actually, he says, Mothers Day (which is a week from Sunday, on May 11) is a common rule of thumb for beginning new planting because the chances of any freeze are practically gone.

But that doesnt mean just go out, buy your plants and get them into the ground. Barz is a strong advocate of first taking a look at your property and assessing it, then making sure you take the right steps to head off problems.

Or, as he puts it, plan, dont plant.

Flower beds and shrub areas that were a problem last year are likely to be the same problem this year. And areas that have done all right in the past may be problem spots this year.

The reasons, he says, are the triple-headed monster no home landscaper can avoid: water, heat and shade.

So, here are some of his tips for a more successful landscape this year.

Pay attention to drainage and moisture. Are drainage problems washing out your plant and flower beds?
