Lawn tips from the Lawn Mower Champion

Bobby Cleveland, the STA-BIL Engine Answerman and Worlds Fastest Lawnmower Racing Champion, shares lawn tips for spring and Tracy challenges his title in a race.

Now that the cold weather is finally starting to break, soon it will be time to dust off the lawn equipment and get ready to spring into action!

The key to getting your lawn race ready is to make sure your small engine equipment, like your lawnmower, hedge trimmer, leaf blower, and so on are tuned up and ready to go for spring. Most likely, they have been sitting in storage all winter and may have a hard time starting. The following three simple steps can help prevent small engine equipment problems and avoid a costly trip to the repair shop:

    1. Educate yourself on how to care for your small engine machines and equipment. Are there products or fluids that will help keep the engine clean? How often should the oil be changed? Proper care now can keep equipment running better, longer.

    2. Check fasteners, cutting blades and oil levels when you first take equipment out of storage. Fasteners should be tightened, blades sharpened and wheel bearings and fittings should be lubricated.

    3. Make sure to add appropriate fluids like STA-BIL Ethanol Treatment to new fuel to keep the fuel fresh, prevent corrosion amplified by ethanol in todays gasoline and boost engine performance.

Once your machinery is ready to go, make sure to spend time caring for the grass!

    1. Mow it properly, and try not to cut it too short. It is also best to mow the lawn when it is dry, as it not only will cut better but will be less messy to clean up too.

    2. It seems like a no brainer, but make sure to water your grass, especially during the hot summer months. Its always best to water in the early morning or late afternoon to avoid evaporation.

Fans of the Boston Bruins and HBOs critically-acclaimed series True Detective are going to love this. Errol, aka the green-eared spaghetti monster and The Yellow King himself has narrated two videos for the winners of the Presidents Trophy to grow excitement for the playoffs.

You can check out both of the videos from ad company Arnold Worldwide via The Playlist and Ad Rants.

The only thing missing is his creepy accent from True Detective and his rider mower we first saw The Yellow King when he was introduced on the HBO mystery/crime/thriller when we had no idea the man mowing the lawn would be the man Rust and Marty were pursuing all along.

The Bruins and Detroit Red Wings are tied at 1-1 in their best of seven game series after the Bruins beat the visiting Wings on Easter Sunday by the score of 4-1.

Game 3 in the series shifts over to Hockeytown in Detroit on Tuesday with the puck dropping at 7:30 p.m. ET with television coverage on NESN for Boston fans and the NBC Sports Network for national coverage.

First Lady emphasizes fun and fitness at annual Easter Egg Roll

    - April 22, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

WASHINGTON -- Instead of chocolate and candy baskets, the horde of children who gathered Monday on the South Lawn for the White Houses Easter Egg Roll got an Eggtivity Zone and a Yoga Garden.

To mark the 136th annual Easter event, First Lady Michelle Obama threw in some exercise stations and healthy eating tips along with the traditional fun and games, which included egg-rolling races and storytelling.

Speaking from the Truman balcony alongside President Obama and the Easter Bunny, the First Lady said this years theme, Hop into Healthy, Swing into Shape, was an issue that is near and dear to my heart.

We want our kids to be the healthiest and the strongest they can be, so they can do well in school and live up to all of their God-given potential, she said.

Donning flowery dresses, petticoats and sweater vests, toddlers and children visiting from all 50 states and the District of Columbia were largely oblivious to the celebrities around them. Among those in attendance were actor Jim Carrey, celebrity doctor Mehmet Oz and Miss America, Nina Davuluri.

One group of egg-rolling contestants was joined on the lawn by the president and his wife, who cheered the participants on from the sidelines.

The children then got to salute the president. Eight-year-old Elisabeth Golton of Weston, Mass., was among the lucky kids. He was like getting high-fives from a lot of kids, she said. Then I high-fived him.

The White House expected more than 30,000 visitors during the day-long festivities, which it has hosted since the 1870s.

Amid the celebration this year, the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals attempted to rock the Easter Egg Roll with controversy.

The week before the event, PETAreleased a videoof three young girls demanding that the First Lady end the traditional distribution of colored hard-boiled eggs.

Certain states provide better treatment for infertility

NEW YORK (NBC) If youve been diagnosed with infertility, a new report suggests living in certain states could provide better treatment and support than others.

An estimated one in five couples in the US has trouble getting pregnant the first year of trying and a new state fertility scorecard suggests finding help for the problem could be even more difficult.

Resolve, the National Infertility Association, graded each state based on three criteria: how many infertility specialists are available, the presence of support groups, and whether laws require coverage for treatments like i-v-f.

When you have those three things you have really good care, and when you dont, patients suffer, said Dr. Jamie Grifo.

Alaska, New Hampshire and Wyoming earned an F. Those states had few, if any, accredited specialists and no insurance coverage requirements. Illinois, Maryland, Connecticut, New Jersey and Massachusetts, where laws require coverage of infertility, earned an A.

Resolve views infertility as a disease, actually the world health organization views infertility as a disease, and we believe as a disease it should be completely covered by insurance, said President and CEO of Resolve, Barbara Collura.

Without help from insurance the cost of infertility treatment can top tens of thousands of dollars. Also, experts say emotional support is just as important as financial.

When you see that other people are going through what you go through and understand what you go through. That helps, said Dr. Grifo.

Experts hope that raising awareness of the disparities between states will lead to actions that boost access to care and support.

Creating a quiet retreat for the ladies of the manor

    - April 22, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

With her extensive background in antiques and the restoration of antique homes, interior designer Maria Bevill was a natural choice to take part in restoring Peapack-Gladstones iconic Blairsden to its former glory.

And Bevill, who owns Maria K. Bevill Interior Design in Chester, said she was thrilled to be among the designers chosen for this years Mansion in May Designer Showcase at Blairsden. Bevill has participated in the past three Mansions in May, the signature fundraiser for the Womens Association of Morristown Medical Center.

I loved the room I chose. It is big, yet intimate, at the same time, said Bevill, whose work has appeared in Design NJ and New Jersey Monthly magazines. Additionally, the Chester Historical Society awarded her the Community Appreciation Award for her sensitive expansion of a historically registered home.

The space is a second-story bedroom that will be transformed into a retreat for the ladies of the home to leisurely enjoy a respite from all the stress of the day, Bevill explained.

She said she pictured graceful ladies of the past relaxing in this room enjoying the afternoon with wine and chocolate.

The magnificent fireplace was Bevills inspiration for the room with its beautiful amber tones, she said. Bevill continued the use of those same tones throughout her design of the space.

One of the details that Bevill wanted to highlight in her space is the stenciling of the ceiling using a certain technique that mimics the details in the plaster ceiling work on the first floor of the mansion, she said.

Another important feature of the room is its many windows. Bevill said she loves designing window treatments and couldnt wait to start on these.

The windows will have statuesque draperies with a border of raspberry tassels and chocolate flat pleats. The window treatments will emphasize the height of the room and frame the views, she said.

I wanted to keep the architectural integrity of the space, but not make it old-fashioned, Bevill said. I wanted to update the space for modern living but maintain its architectural elements.

    Thieves reportedly target Houston family

    - April 22, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

    HOUSTON -

A southwest Houston family is desperate for help after thieves ransacked one of their homes and started stealing some of the surveillance cameras they installed as a deterrent.

The couple owns two neighboring homes on Bellaire Boulevard near Highway 59; one home is used for storage.

"You think they're paying attention, they know when you're home and when you're not, how long you'll be gone?" asked Local 2's Robert Arnold.

    "Right," said Nai Wu Lin.

"I got to work," said Dr. Chai Chin Lin.

In the home the family uses for storage thieves knocked a hole in the ceiling and ripped out the air conditioner, trying to get at copper wiring.

The family says the thieves even took the change left in their children's piggy banks. Windows were smashed and piles of trash were seen everywhere throughout the home. The thieves also appeared to take their time judging by the empty beer cans and cigarette packs found by the family.

"My husband is not a smoker, I'm not a smoker," said Lin.

The family installed surveillance cameras, but the couple said the thieves have started stealing the cameras. The couple showed Local 2 one piece of video where what appears to be a man's shadow is seen under the camera as it starts moving back and forth before the feed cuts off and the screen goes black.
