SHILLONG: The plan of the Meghalaya Government to set up an embarkation and disembarkation point at Khyndailad has caught the attention of many as OB Shopping Mall has now constructed a retaining wall on the same location.
However, Urban Affairs Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh has clarified that her department has allowed OB Shopping mall to construct a retaining wall for the safety of the building since the structure has been constructed on a tight slope of land.
According to Lyngdoh, the department together with OB Shopping mall are working on merging of ideas to ensure that the place is made beautiful.
Asked if the OB Shopping Mall had encroached on the land, Lyngdoh stated on Monday that the land would remain to be a public place and there was no way that OB Shopping Mall would encroach on the land.
Earlier, the Government had wanted to construct a bus bay at the location but the later the idea was cancelled as the land had a tight slop and it was risky for buses to be parked there.
Interestingly, there was also a plan of constructing a toilet in the same place and now Government would revise the proposal since earlier a toilet was included.
The work for the project has been kept in abeyance at the moment. Work will resume after the state is relieved from the restrictions of the model code of conduct due to the Lok Sabha elections.

FARGO The city of Fargo does not normally accept large appliances, such as stoves and washing machines, for disposal, but instead refers residents to area scrap yards.
If large appliances are left at the curb, Fargo will pick them up but the city will assess a fee.
The city of Moorhead collects large appliances, but it, too, assesses a special pick-up fee.
Fargo accepts items like TVs, computer monitors and computers for disposal at its household hazardous waste facility at 606 43 St. N.
Clay County accepts electronic appliances at its landfill, 3301 190th St. S., in Hawley, Minn.
The county also accepts such items from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. the first Tuesday of each month at 1300 15th Ave. N., in Moorhead.
Items are accepted at the shop in the northeast corner of the property.
Both Fargo and Moorhead will pick up large appliances (limit of two) free of charge during cleanup week, which this year is May 5-9.
Moorhead will pick up TVs and computer monitors at curbside during cleanup week for a fee.
Fargo and Clay County will host special collections for TVs, computer monitors and computers May 3.
