Mold has returned to Shreve Memorial Library in Louisiana. A report from shreveporttimes.com relayed the news on its post published on April 12, 2014. Meanwhile, wanting to help the public kill mold quick and avoid the return of it, My Cleaning Products recommended two mold sprays made with organic ingredients.
The post shared that the fungus was found on the third floor of the facility. It detailed that it is where the library houses the microfilm, periodical, petroleum and government documents and rare Louisiana books. Also, it was spotted in the Larkin Edwards room, it related. The area, it said, is where the special collections are placed.
Library officials were unsure of the source of the fungus, the report relayed. And so, it shared that on March 31, the board decided to hire an expert to analyze the problem and help them determine their next step to eliminate mold for good. It detailed that $10,000 was allocated for the project.
It was in 2007 when mold was first discovered in the library, shared the report. Back in 2011, it added that about $25,000 was spent for its removal in the library.
Below is a part of the post Mold Troubles Shreve Memorial Library Again by My Cleaning Products.
Shreve Memorial Library thought that it was done with mold. But recently, the fungus showed up again and threatened valuable collections in the facility.
It was back in 2007 when the problem with the spores was first detected. From then on, several measures were taken to clear them. In 2011, efforts to eradicate them, which included the vacuuming of affected books, even cost the library some $25,000 as shared by Barbara Moore, the former main library branch manager.
According to My Cleaning Products, mold problems in libraries are not uncommon as the spores could grow anywhere. However, of all the places that they could contaminate, it cited that houses are some of the most-vulnerable to their presence.
MCP reasoned that's because moisture is always present at home and just a little of it is needed for the spores to grow. Considering that, it advised the public to always be ready to eliminate mold. That way, the worst of its effects could be avoided, it asserted.

Adam Mund
Adam Mund is owner of Mund Organic Solutions, a lawn care business that uses an organic fertilizer formula of his own making. Dave Olson / The Forum
Fargo -- Adam Mund minored in microbe biology at Concordia College.
What he learned came in handy a few years ago when Mund, who was working construction jobs at the time, decided to mix up a batch of organic fertilizer for his yard.
The formula worked wonders.
So much so that a relative suggested he turn his organic brew into a business.
Mund did just that and this spring marks the third growing season for his lawn care company, Mund Organic Solutions.
While the company is based in Kindred, many of Munds jobs are in the Fargo-Moorhead area.
The precise formula of his fertilizer is a secret, but Mund said the main ingredient is worm tailings, better known as worm poop.
One advantage of organic fertilizer over synthetic or chemical fertilizer is that it more closely emulates natures processes, Mund said.

PABLO The Kerr Elder Program is facing funding problems for their summer services. When an extended winter storm hit the Flathead Indian Reservation in February, the program was forced to spend more of their allocation on snowplowing, gas, and propane assistance for tribal elders. Now, they are faced with a smaller budget, forcing them to cut services such as lawn mowing.
The Kerr Elder Program provides essential services for elders that meet the age eligibility and income guidelines. Any tribal elder that is 55 years of age or older with a documented disability, or is 60 years of age or old, and meets the income guidelines, can receive assistance through the program. They provide essential services that range from repairing cooking ranges, water heaters, to installing ramps and walk-in shower, gas and propane assistance, to snowplowing and lawn mowing. The program currently serves 871 elders.
The Kerr Elder Program receives an annual $335,334 allocation based on the tribal councils discretion. $60,000 is budgeted each year for snowplowing costs, but currently the program has spent $105,000 this year due to the winter storm; $46,000 over budget. 31 percent of their budget has been spent in only the first quarter of the year.
To offset the unexpected winter costs, the program is cutting several summer services. Starting immediately, they are no longer accepting requests for: car repair, insurance (home or auto), lawn mowing, carpet installation, new furnaces, rent assistance, and tires. The cost of mowing lawns averages $4,788.80 per month, says, Mike Pierre, Division Manager, There is a high cost associated with lawn mowing, and we are considering it a non-essential service for now, due to our limited budget.
The program says they will be able to provide some services, like small house modifications. Elders can go through the Home Care Program through the Kerr Elder Program and Indian Health Services for meal preparation services.
They advise elders to seek assistance from family members, and organizations like the Lake County Council of Aging of Ronan.
Kerr Elder Program is encouraging volunteers to help with their program; they partner with the Fatherhood program currently, but still accept volunteers. Individuals in need of filling mandatory community hours can also volunteer.
For more information on the Kerr Elder Program contact the CSKT Department of Human Resources Development at (406) 275-2720.

During this time of year, many homeowners turn their attention to their lawns in the hope of growing lush, green grass. Fortunately, applying consistent watering practices can help in the creation of a beautiful yard. Warmer temperatures are coming and it is important to understand how to water efficiently and effectively, not only to maintain a healthy lawn but also to take part in water conservation.
Here are some tips for getting started.
Homeowners and groundskeepers who utilize sprinklers should adjust those sprinklers so that the sprinklers are watering the lawn only and not accidentally watering the sidewalk, street or driveway. This is very important for water conservation. Anyone dealing with watering restrictions should water less frequently and gradually reduce the amount of water used. This will help alleviate potential stress on your lawn if a total ban on watering becomes necessary.
Many homeowners wonder if there is a best time to water the lawn. According to the experts at Senske, early morning hours are the best because the cooler temperatures slow down water evaporation. Watering should be avoided during midday hours when it is hot and sunny to prevent scalding the turf.
Overall, one inch of water per week is just right for maintaining a healthy lawn. Overwatering can promote lawn diseases that can directly impact the health of a lawn. A simple test to determine if a lawn needs water is to walk on the grass. If footprints are left, then it is time to water.
Mowing grass to a height of 2.5 inches to 3 inches is recommended, as taller grass shades the roots and soil surface which helps to reduce the amount of water lost to evaporation. In addition, reducing the amount of foot traffic on the lawn as much as possible will allow the grass to grow longer to reduce moisture loss.
Aeration is also highly recommended by the lawn experts at Senske to maximize watering efforts. Lawn aeration removes cores of soil from the lawn, which allows air, water and nutrients to move deeper into the soil. It also relieves compaction of the soil, letting water penetrate the surface properly to encourage deep root growth.
"Weed and insect control treatments can benefit the lawn by reducing the severity of potential turf damage, says Dan Warehime, VP of Operations.
Senske has experienced and licensed professional lawn care technicians to assist in aeration and irrigation. Right now Senske Services is offering an introductory special offer of two free treatments to new customers who sign up for a full lawn care program.

Award-winning landscape architectural firm Nelson Byrd Woltz achieves beautification and excellence through ecological revitalization, indigenous design, integrity of historical intent, and stewardship of space hallmarks the Memorial Park Conservancy prioritized for Memorial Parks Long-Range Master Plan. It is precisely this synergy of approach and vision that made Nelson Byrd Woltz the perfect partner for planning Memorial Parks sustainable future.
Need for a Master Design Plan for Memorial Park evolved naturally from collective concerns by the City of Houston, The Uptown Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone (TIRZ) #16, the Houston Parks and Recreation Department, along with the Memorial Park Conservancy. Issues ranged from reforestation, traffic, accessibility, and ecological decline to a need for a way to address growth, improve facilities, and achieve balance for the park as a recreational and environmental asset.
It is very exciting to have Thomas Woltz design the blueprint for the future of Memorial Park, said Mayor Annise D. Parker. His vision, innovation, and influence will render a healthier, more bountiful public amenity for Houstonians near term, and provide a rich, lasting legacy for future generations. Equally as exciting, we hope every Houstonian will be engaged in the process.
The Memorial Park Conservancy secured approval from the Houston Parks and Recreation Department in 2012 to lay the groundwork and embarked on a lengthy research and interview process for the selection of a landscape architect to develop the Long-Range Master Plan. In May 2013, the Uptown TIRZ boundary was expanded to include Memorial Park, which provided much needed financial support.
The selection of Nelson Byrd Woltz not only ensures a healthy, sustainable future for Memorial Park, but also through ecological and landscape transformation, designed with robust public input, can exponentially elevate its asset significance for generations to come.
In 2011, as we began developing a long-term forestry management plan for Memorial Park we experienced a historic drought, said Joe Turner, director, Houston Parks and Recreation Department. This drought was the driving force behind the need for a new master plan for the park. We look forward to a plan that will steward one of Houstons most beloved parks while it addresses the changing environmental conditions and the needs of the daily users.
Already Houstons largest urban-center park and a sentimental favorite for millions of Houstonians, Memorial Park encompasses 1,500 acres that attracts 4 million residents each year. Some 10,000 visitors use the parks Seymour Leiberman Exer-Trail daily, the premier running facility in the city. A highly regarded 18-hole golf course, active tennis, swimming, cycling, bird watching, and fitness facilities are accentuated by the parks wooded character, which has been devastatingly damaged by drought and human interaction.
Nelson Byrd Woltz has the extensive experience in ecological restoration we desire, explained Memorial Park Conservancy chair Jim Porter. The sheer beauty of their work masterfully triggers a cascade of positive ecological benefits, where depleted landscapes are brought back to life using native plants and the resurgence of local animals. This expertise is precisely what Memorial Park needs and deserves.
Firm owner Thomas L. Woltz is widely considered the rising star in landscape architecture. The New York School of Interior Design recently awarded him the inaugural Thomas N. Armstrong III Award in Landscape Design. In 2011, he was invested into the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) Council of Fellows, one of the highest honors achieved in the profession. Woltz creates models of biodiversity and sustainability, replete with beauty, form, and function, recognized by more than 80 national, regional, and international awards.
This is a rare opportunity to set Memorial Park on a more resilient course; to ensure its longevity for the thousands of people using it every day; to create a rich and varied ecosystem further enhancing the experience of the park for its many users; and to envision and articulate the critical balance between intense and active use and preservation, said Thomas L. Woltz, owner of Nelson Byrd Woltz Landscape Architects. It is time to celebrate and embrace the unique ecology of southeast Texas and the natural and cultural history of the park. With the help of Houstonians we can create a beautiful and enduring park for tomorrow and for future generations.
