They certainly have the First Amendment right to make their case, but what someone representing the Ku Klux Klan did in Waynesboro and Staunton is raising both eyebrows and concerns.

KKK fliers appeared overnight on front porches, driveways and streets in Waynesboro and Staunton. Police say they haven't seen anything like this before.

While the fliers didn't contain any specific beliefs of the KKK, the effort was a clear attempt to recruit new members from the community.

"I'm not a vigilante, but they're not going to mess with my house or my neighborhood, said David Foster, who received one of the fliers.

Foster had a funny feeling early Monday morning when he saw a group of people with flashlights near his property in Waynesboro. Hes shocked anyone would still promote a group known historically for spreading hate.

"You know that's a shame, that that still goes on in our society now. By now people should be past that, he said.

Neighbors on Mount Vernon Street woke up to find the propaganda sprinkled along their stretch of road. The recruitment fliers were placed in Food Lion zipper storage bags and weighed down with marbles.

"No, I've never seen anything like that. It is disturbing. They are ignorant people, said one neighbor, Town Lalonde.

Waynesboro police are looking into the situation. They say no one has requested any type of KKK demonstration. They believe it was an underground effort.

"The fact that they're doing it overnight using the cover of darkness may just be that they don't want the notoriety or have a confrontation with someone who might have opposing beliefs, said Waynesboro Police Sergeant Brian Edwards.

Valley Residents Wake Up to KKK Fliers Outside Homes

In fact, Remodeling Magazines 2014 Cost vs. Value Report highlights many alternative San Francisco remodeling projects that recoup their costs. In San Francisco, an unfinished attic thats converted into a bedroom with bath, including four new windows and closet space, recoups 135.2 % of its value, according to the report. A basement remodel that includes an entertaining area and full bathroom recoups 117.8 % of costs.

Think of it this way, Wells explained. If you were to sell your home, given either of these scenarios, its resale value would pay for the remodel and earn you a healthy profit. A basement or attic remodel is indeed a smart investment on several levels, Wells added. For those needing additional living space, an attic or basement conversion provides extra space and greater comfort. And for those planning on putting their home on the market, the investment will be reimbursed once the home is sold.

Wells went on to say that kitchen and bathroom remodels in San Francisco are still the most popular home remodeling projects. And they, too, offer a strong return on investment. A renovated kitchen in San Francisco will recoup 111.7% of its costs; a bathroom remodel recoups 136.5%. SF bay area residents may also want to consider at minor kitchen remodel. It recoups 146.6% of costs and includes refacing cabinets, installing energy efficient appliances, and adding new flooring and countertops, among other things.

With the SF Bay Area housing marketing on the rise," Wells concluded, "now is a good time to invest in a better quality of life.

ANDERSON A central Indiana church has emerged from bankruptcy after filing last year when it wasnt able to make a $5.8 million balloon payment on a construction loan.

The repayment of Madison Park Church of Gods loan has since been renegotiated, and the roughly 3,000-family congregation church in Anderson is now on a new payment schedule to repay the debt in full, said Rob Spaulding, the churchs business administrator.

We refinanced it with the bond holders, he said. The court proceedings were necessary to bind everyone to the agreement.

The church filed in July for Chapter 11 reorganization over a nearly $17.5 million loan from 2007 to pay for construction of its community life center near the Interstate 69 interchange with Indiana 9 on the citys south side, the Herald Bulletin reported Monday.

David Whitmoyer, vice chairman of the churchs board of elders, said there was no debt reduction from the court proceedings but that negotiations with creditors were unsuccessful until the bankruptcy was filed.

We had known for a couple of years we would not be able to make those payments, he said.

Church officials said it still plans to sell about 100 acres surrounding its property. Spaulding said a senior housing group will be developing about 16 acres soon and eventually the church would like to see new retail outlets in the area.

The church is moving forward thanks to the support of its congregation and new interest rates, he said.

We certainly held our own and have been very stable through all of this, he said. But this really gives us a very stable platform for us to move forward.
