Avoid Foolish Home Security Mistakes with Help from ESA

    - April 1, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Irving, Texas (PRWEB) April 01, 2014

Today, millions of Americans will fall victim to harmless pranks in honor of April Fools Day, as practical jokers run rampant making fools out of unsuspecting targets. Unfortunately, pranksters arent the only people looking to capitalize on the nave burglars are searching for homeowners who arent taking home security seriously. Unlike a lighthearted April Fools joke, falling victim to a burglary is no laughing matter.

To keep you from becoming a home security fool, the Electronic Security Association (ESA) examines common security mistakes and provides alternatives to help protect your family from burglary.

    Blame it on the dog

Many homeowners claim that a big dog is the only security system they need but unless your pooch is a Cujo reincarnate, its likely that your canine companion wont give two sniffs about a stranger entering your home while youre away. An Atlanta TV station made this point recently when they unleashed a burglar in the homes of five dog owners and filmed each pets reactions on hidden cameras. Each breed from a pint-size Papillon to a stocky Rottweiler allowed the intruder to enter the home and roam from room to room with little interference.

Instead of having to blame your pup when a burglar ransacks your home, take steps to make your home less desirable to potential burglars. Make sure your home is well-lit and your shrubbery is trimmed back to minimize hiding spots for criminals. You can also invest in timers for stereos, TVs and lights to make your home look occupied even when youre gone. This can further reduce your risk, since burglars tend to target unoccupied houses.

Shut (and lock) the front door!

Locking doors and windows is one of the easiest ways to protect your home from burglary, but its a measure that often gets neglected. According to the FBIs 2012 Uniform Crime Report, nearly 34 percent of burglars entered premises through an unlocked door or window.

However, even if you are diligent about locking up, it still may not be enough to stop a determined burglar.

To increase the security of your homes entry points, invest in remotely controlled locks that give you the ability to lock and unlock doors from your smartphone, tablet or web-enabled device. Keyless locks also give you the power to assign temporary pass codes to people who may have access to your home while youre away, such as a contractor or housekeeper. Youll have the ability to see whos been in and out of your house, or be able to remotely assist a loved one who has been locked out.

Best Phoenix Home Security Systems Companies Revealed by the Home Security Professionals at ConsumerResearchers.org

    - April 1, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

    (PRWEB) April 01, 2014

Phoenix Arizona, or Valley of the Sun as it is known colloquially, is the capital of Arizona and the sixth most populous city in the United States. Culture rich and home to some of Americas only remaining real cowboys, it is a city that is a real hive of activity that is built on historical foundations. However, as with any city that is densely inhabited, Phoenix is also prone to succumb to crime and has over 60,000 property crimes a year.

While the cowboys were more than capable of protecting their homes back in the day, 60,000 property crimes is a little out of reach nowadays and other measures must be made in order to ensure that a safe home is maintained. ConsumerResearchers.org has devised a rankings table of the best home security companies in Phoenix in order to assist residents on their quest to make their home a safe haven.

View the home security rankings here: http://www.consumerresearchers.org/home-security-systems/phoenix/.

According to NeighbourhoodScout, the crime rating for Phoenix scores a measly 10 out of 100, with 100 being the safest. Due to having a figure that is this shockingly low, home security should be an absolutely imperative priority if residents dont want to find themselves becoming another statistic; if the opportunity for burglars is taken away, this will reduce the crime rate as a whole, not just for one household.

ConsumerResearchers.org is a team of research professionals who take into consideration feedback and analysis in order to methodically analyse data and produce accurate results for the consumer. The key goal is to help people find the home security system that suits their needs and allows them to sleep soundly at night.

The rankings are completely organic and never devised from paid or sponsored advertisements; the experts at ConsumerResearchers believe that is important never to compromise their integrity as a research company and only ever offer the consumer meaningful home security company rankings to help them with their search.

Frontpoint came top of the list, with a perfect score of 10/10 that is based on everything from accreditation standards, how much the system costs on a monthly basis and how stringent the monitoring is. ADT came in close second, also with a score of 10/10, but with different characteristics. Protect America, Life Shield and Vivnt followed in extremely close fashion, coming in third, fourth and fifth place consecutively.

View the complete rankings at http://www.consumerresearchers.org/home-security-systems/houston/.

Spokesperson Ed Mitchell said: "Phoenix is one of the most community minded cities in America, but its large size also means that crime will be a factor.

Zero net smart homes + the downside to unblessed Nest integration

    - April 1, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

This weeks SmartHome roundup includes the future of home monitoring and security services, a zero net energy home, and a lesson on unsanctioned Nest integration.

    .

A new report from ABI Research paints a sad picture for the future of vendors selling an undiversified selection of only home monitoring and security services. As more people look to automate their homes, buyers will seek solutions that offer both home automation and security, and without having to invest in too many devices. It is expected that top tier players in the smart home market will only grow their portfolio of standard services one-stop shops.

ABIs report stated that it expects the home monitoring and security market to see its market share drop by 50 percent, as smart home adoption grows by 37 percent between 2013 to 2019.

The potential for each vendor in the managed smart home market stems not just from their current offerings but also from their ability to introduce smart home services to new and existing customers. Monitored security has long seen its market penetration stymied and the ability of smart home applications to widen its appeal is uncertain at best, said Jonathan Collins, principal analyst at ABI Research.

The report validates the bundle approach from top tier brands, utility providers in particular. These are among the first and most familiar brands to introduce smart home solutions into the mainstream, and are leveraging this initial interest in home monitoring and security. iControl, a home automation software provider to Time Warner, Comcast and ADT, calls out the security market as the most promising for mass market adoption.

Our research indicates that when you layer all of those connected home features on top of a security solution, youre likely going to double the size of the market, said Greg Roberts, Vice President of Marketing at iControl in a recent interview.

    .

Lake County government buildings in desperate need of repair, upgrades

    - April 1, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

    LAKE COUNTY, Fla.

Lake County owns and operates several government office buildings across the county that are in desperate need of repair.

"We've got 150 buildings and over 40 percent of those buildings are 20 years old," County Manager David Heath said.

The old buildings are equipped with 20-year-old heating and cooling systems that were manufactured decades ago. Some of the equipment is so old, companies no longer make replacement parts for it.

"So we had to revert back to online means. For instance, we buy parts on eBay for example," Heath said.

Heath said $13 million worth of replacement parts are needed, primarily for the Central Energy Plant. The facility runs the air conditioning and heating system for the county's administration building, sheriff's office, the courthouse and the jail.

County leaders said it's not only hard to find parts, but also hard to find mechanics who know how the old stuff works.

"The longer the situation goes on, the backlog will continue to grow and increase the chance we have a failure in one of the systems," Heath said.

The County Manager said $700,000 in replacement parts is needed immediately and the county commission will be asked to come up with the funds.
