AFTER the court denied the motion filed by residents of J.C. De Vera St. in Sitio Mahayahay, Barangay Carreta, demolition in the area pushed through yesterday.
The demolition was carried out by Deputy Sheriff Edilberto Suarin after the court resolved the motion and issued an order to push through with the implementation of the writ of demolition last March 21.
Suarin earlier implemented the clearing on the area last March 11 and 12. But this was stalled due to some circumstances, like the resolution of the motion, the rain during the previous week and the on-going demolition in Sitio San Miguel Barangay Apas where Suarin is also the implementing sheriff. I have temporarily stopped the demolition in Carreta since I was also supervising in Apas. My presence is really needed during the implementation, Suarin told Sun.Star Cebu.
Intervened
The City Government also intervened after they found out that debris of some of the structures that were dismantled was just dumped on the road. The families were also on the street.
In an earlier interview, the Citys legal office said families and debris should not be dumped on the street since J.C. De Vera St. is used as a diversion road following the concreting works in Sergio Osmea Ave.Households
Suarin said there are 34 structures, including a pre-school ran by a non-government organization, and 117 households in the area that will be cleared.
The earlier demolition has torn down 10 houses. The lot is owned by George Giminez, a private individual.
Dionesio Suico, a structure owner in the area, said the move was illegal.
Suico said Rene Chavez, who claims as the representative of the private owner, is not authorized.

Demolition work is set to begin at the Louisville Extreme Park. Approximately one-third of the park will be demolished and reconstructed on adjacent property to make way for construction of the flyover ramps that will support the new Louisville-Southern Indiana downtown bridge.
This week, the contractor for the Extreme Park project, MAC Construction, will be mobilizing equipment and erecting temporary fencing to secure the construction area and close off the section of the park being removed. Demolition is expected to begin next week. New construction on the replacement section of the park could begin by May, with project completion expected by the end of 2014.
Sections of the park unaffected by the bridge work will remain open during most of the demolition and reconstruction period, but brief temporary closures of portions of the park, or the park as a whole, will occur from time to time for public safety reasons, depending on construction needs and schedule.
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has provided funding to Metro Government for this demolition and functional replacement project.

Bloomer (WQOW) -After five decades of dedication to education, demolition work began on an elementary school in Chippewa County Monday. The old bloomer elementary school first held classes for students back in 1961.
"I really enjoyed the time I was there," said Joe Lewis, a former student of the old Bloomer Elementary School.
As the walls crumbled, memories tumbled out of the minds of those who spent their childhood at classes in the old bloomer elementary school.
"Walking down the hallways and seeing these big halls, and gym at the end. Being a little kid, kind of not knowing and leery about what's going to happen," said Dawn Stewart-Bowden, another former student.
"Mostly I remember the cafeteria for some reason. We had our cafeteria and our gym in the same spot. And I think gym was probably my favorite class. We had really good teachers, and the lunch was always good," said Sarah Rothbauer, also a former student.
"It was really small class sizes, which was really nice because you could work one on one with teachers, so that really helped. And it was a fun place," Lewis added.
Parts of the 69,000 square foot structure will be recycled, and the building is expected to be completely torn down in just a few weeks.
"It's upsetting, I always saw my kids going there. I have a son now and I would have thought he would have gone there. I think the building is really in good shape, I thought maybe they could use it for something else. The playground is in awesome shape, but an upgrade is good," Rothbauer said.
"It's sad to see, but kind of excited because maybe it's bringing a new change to the community of Bloomer. New opportunities, new businesses, new growth," said Lewis.
The price tag for demolishing the building is expected to cost $115,000. However, the school was mud jacked in 1985 and because of that, the district says costs could go up. Superintendent Dr. Mary Randall says there has been an offer to buy on one parcel of land the school sits on. A second parcel is still for sale and may be divided into smaller pieces.

ANN ARBOR (WWJ) The green design, building and remodeling company Meadowlark Builders will conduct tours of a new custom home under construction in Ann Arbor Saturday and Sunday, April 12 and 13.
For the next installment of Meadowlarks Behind The Drywall Tour series, a home on Harvard Place in Ann Arbor will be opened up for viewing. Attendees will be able to get a rare glimpse of the technology and building techniques that go into constructing a resource-efficient home on a difficult, hillside lot before the drywall is placed on the walls.
This home is situated in a serene setting in the midst of the campus hustle and bustle in Ann Arbor, said Meadowlark co-founder and president Doug Selby. It will be an oasis when it is finished, but this small, narrow lot on a steep hill has presented many design and construction challenges. The design process was very lengthy and extremely collaborative among architect Hopkins Burns, builder and homeowner. Our clients had a vision the challenge was to take their vision and come up with something that would be feasible given the restraints dictated by the lot. I think that we have achieved our goal.
The lot was the site of a home designed by renowned Ann Arbor architect George Brigham. Unfortunately, the home had fallen into disrepair and had been torn down by the previous owners. The new owners had the foresight to salvage many building materials from the demolition that will be recycled back into the new home. The combination of resource-efficient design and construction methods, combined with state-of-the-art technology, is resulting in a home that will be as green as its stunning surroundings.
Attendees will be taken through the home via a guided tour that lasts about an hour. The event is free; however, pre-registration is required by visiting http://www.behindthedrywall.com or by calling (734) 332-1500.
The Behind The Drywall Tour series was started in 2007 to provide the public with a hands-on chance to visit and view the latest in green building techniques and design behind the drywall of homes. Most people dont get a chance to see these features because the majority of the green technology is put in place before the drywall is placed on the walls and ceiling. This popular tour series has been selling out since its inception.

Only 19 residential building permits were issued in Bismarck-Mandan in February but home builders predict once warm weather comes, new homes will too.
Last years short summer and this bad winter have led to pent up demand, said Dot Frank, executive officer for the Bismarck-Mandan Home Builders Association.
Now that its starting to warm up building will likely pick up, she said. Were not anticipating build out to be any less.
The association will have 30 to 43 homes in its Spring Parade of Homes, Frank said.
Last year, 50 residential building permits were issued in the Bismarck-Mandan area in January and February compared to 24 in the same time period this year.
Home sales were about even with last year, with 200 single family homes sold in January and February this year and 186 sold during the same time period last year. The average sale price was $237,475 this year and $207,978 last year.
The hindrance of cold weather and a deep frost line has kept new building permit application low as foundations cant be dug in the frozern ground. Frank said many builders have been using ground heaters to allow them to pour concrete.
Its looking like it will be another busy year, said Drew Knutson of Knutson Homes Inc.
Knutson said many of his customers wait until warmer weather to contact him about building a house, so he has not submitted paperwork for permits yet.
My phone just started ringing, he said.

Fan blades must be mounted at least 7 feet above the floor. For maximum efficiency, they shouldn't have any obstruction within 24 inches of the blade tips.
An appropriate junction or outlet box securely attached to the building structure is required. Replace the old box with one labeled as approved for ceiling fans or ceiling-suspended paddle fan installation. The box and its support must be able to support the moving weight of the fan. Use the installation hardware recommended by the junction box manufacturer. Fans over 35 pounds, with or without accessories, require additional support independent of the outlet box.
Secure the new box to a brace between ceiling joists. If there isn't a 2-by-4 wood brace between the joists but you have access to the framing through the attic, add a brace.
Otherwise, install an expandable metal ceiling-fan hanger bar. These may be positioned either from the attic or from below the ceiling, through the rough opening. Secure the box to the bracket with a U-bolt.
