DJ MK
AMERICAN DJ MK, aka Marc Kinchen, will make an appearance at Invernesss Ironworks on Friday 18th April.
Since his breakthrough remix of international hit Push The Feeling On by The Nightcrawlers, MK has gone on to remix such artists as Lana Del Rey, Chris Malinchak, Paloma Faith w Pharrell, Le Youth, Sam Smith, Rhye, Hot Natured, Shadowchild and Haim, as well work on his solo projects on Hot Creations and Defected.
Growing up in Detroit, MK was befriended by Techno originator, Kevin Saunderson, who quickly took on the role of mentor to MK, who in turn decided to concentrate on developing as a producer/artist rather than as a DJ, though now he is much in demand at clubs and festivals around the world, including the UK, mainland Europe, Mexico, Australia and even Russia, as well as his native USA.
"Sometimes we do three cities in one night and that can be wild. It is very different from the solitary existence the studio lends itself to, but I like them both," MK commented.
"There is really nothing more exhilarating than hearing and seeing the crowd react to a record you have produced, it is so instant, so much warmth and good energy. I am really having a ball."
Future projects include his new group Pleasure State, with Anabel Englund and Lee Foss, writing and working with Shadow Child, Duke Dumont and Route 94,and his own solo MK album. He is also re-launching his label, Area 10, and developing his new group with Lee Foss and Anabel Englund, Pleasure State.

A number of startups over the years have tried to reinvent PowerPoint with services that made it easier or quicker to create a slideshow presentation. Newly launched SketchDeck is taking a different approach: Instead of providing an alternative to PowerPoint or similar software applications, its offering a service that enables individuals or businesses to have their slides made beautiful by a team of designers who can turn around assignments within 24 hours.
Explains SketchDeck co-founder and CEO Chris Finneral, this kind of service actually already exists, but only within larger organizations, like banks or consultancies. He would know, as Finneral himself used to work as a business analyst at McKinsey in London where he made thousands of slideshows himself.
McKinsey used a service called Visual Graphics India (VGI)which allowed staff to send out their roughly drawn slides to an overseas team that would, overnight, turn those into high-quality, well-designed presentations, then email them back to you.
It was so valuable there, but it didnt really exist in any nice form outside of big organizations, says Finneral. Yet, all businesses make presentations board meetings, sales pitches, marketing presentations everyones making them, he adds. And lots of people dont have much time, so the value proposition still works.
The service as it stands today is designed to be very simple to use. Customers either upload or email their draft slide deck to go@sketchdeck.com, and within 24 hours, they receive the professionally designed version in return.
On SketchDecks side, the presentations are channeled first to a junior team of overseas designers who make more basic improvements, like adjusting the formatting or alignment, applying templates and more. Its then sent off to a senior, generally U.S.-based team, that adds the custom flourishes that complete the project. (SketchDeck pays its designers by the hour, generally around $10/hr for the junior team and $50/hr for the seniors.)
The product is available to both individuals and businesses on either a pay-as-you go basis, at $5 or $20 per slide, depending on whether you want a more basic, templated slide, or a custom-designed one. Businesses can also choose to pay for SketchDeck as a service, with plans that range from $100/month to $1,400/month, depending on the size of their company, the number of presentations theyll need, and the customizations involved.
Since SketchDecks soft launch in November, theyve created around 250 presentations some as large as 300 slides for a variety of customers, including several YC startups (VC pitch decks galore!), and other contacts Finneral had from back in his McKinsey days.
Longer-term, he says the idea is to take this concept beyond just slide decks, to offer similar design services for other materials that businesses need, including brochures, handbooks, flyers, and more. In fact, the team has already quietly handled a few these types of things, but for now, its main focus is on getting presentations right.

Pakistan: Church destroyed; 5,000 Christian families faces eviction Posted: Wednesday, March 12, 2014 8:35 pm Email Print
A large group of Muslim extremists has destroyed a church that was under construction in Okara, Punjab Pakistan. The walls of the church had been completed, on land donated by a local Christian resident, Akber Masih. When a cross was placed in front of the main gate of the small construction yard a mob arrived with bulldozers and demolished the building.
The faithful filed a complaint to the police, but the NGO 'Sharing Life Ministries Pakistan', said the perpetrators have not been arrested - thanks to the political influence they have. Christians in the neighbourhood who have asked for protection to civil authorities, on the other hand, have received threats and have now abandoned the idea of building a church.
Elsewhere, in the capital, Islamabad, more than 5,000 Christian families who have lived for years in overcrowded slum conditions, with no piped water or sanitation now face homelessness, as a High Court judge has ordered the demolition of ten settlements.Christian leaders are asking the municipality to think about some form of accommodation for them.

Offers of help for Cathedral restoration 'resented' PHILIP BURDON
Joseph Johnson/Fairfax NZ
ICONIC HERITAGE: The Anglican Cathedral is the oldest in NZ and has the highest heritage listing possible.
Nothing would symbolise survival, rebirth and memorial so dramatically as the restoration of the Christ Church Cathedral, writes Philip Burdon
The legacy of the earthquake is a devastated and broken city that has shown a brave and determined ambition to recover and rebuild.
The Arts Centre, the Canterbury Museum and the very badly damaged Provincial Council Chambers have all committed to a restoration programme that has the support and endorsement of their governing bodies.
Of the iconic symbols of the history and heritage of the city, only the cathedral remains an issue of bitter contention and debate.
The cathedral was, and remains, the physical symbol of the deeply religious convictions and beliefs of the founding fathers of the Canterbury Settlement.
Its 40-year construction remains a permanent monument to the tenacity of the Anglican Church and the commitment of the broader community to dignify the city of Christchurch with an appropriate physical presence.
The cathedral was the first Anglican cathedral in New Zealand to be completed and it remains the oldest Anglican Cathedral in the country. In architectural terms it is distinguished as the only building in Australasia designed by Sir George Scott, the pre-eminent Victorian church architect.
